do you guys mind posting your nationality/race as well? thanks.

Yeah, that's another thing I forgot to mention too. Should be interesting to see more results.

WoW it seems like Cornell more than many of the other schools rejected a handful of talented students.... odd considering their transfer rate is higher than many of their top 20 counterparts

Current School: SUNY Stony Brook, New York University’s “Spring in NY” Spring 2007 Semester
Entering as: Junior Student (Depends on transfer credit evaluation, I am coming with 76 credits from Stony Brook (including 18 research credits) and 12 credits from NYU
Major: Biology and Psychology double major, Pre-Med
High School GPA: B+, I don’t recall the exact percentage, Top 20% of Graduating Class

Recs/Essays: Recs, probably both close to a 10, one from my English professor I had for two classes who I still keep in touch with, one from my research supervisor outlining my laboratory research on drug addiction. Essays, they were unique and I spent a tremendous amount of time working on them, receiving feedback from family and friends was very helpful.

Applied to: Georgetown University (College), Johns Hopkins University (Krieger), New York University (CAS), Boston College (CAS), University of Southern California (College), Tulane, and University of Miami.

(I had also sent in part of my application to Columbia, but after realizing how much time it would take for me to complete the 60 core credits, in addition to classes remaining for my double major in psychology and neural science, I withdrew my application.)

Accepted: Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, University Southern California, New York University, Tulane, and University of Miami
Waitlisted: Boston College (durf!)
Rejected: n/a
Pending: n/a

Likely Attending: Deciding between either JHU or Georgetown

Tips:
1) Heavily research the schools you are interested in; take into consideration things like location, major offerings, professor quality, percentage of TA’s teaching classes, facilities, graduate and/or pre-professional school acceptance rates, etc. I found it extremely helpful to visit the campuses I was most interested in, attend an information session, take a campus tour, sit in on a class, check out the surrounding neighborhoods, etc. – most universities documented my visits, which could only have helped during application review time.
2) Do NOT base your entire application selection process according to US News rankings; what is most important is to find a college where you will best ‘fit’, do well, and be content. In addition, just because a college’s transfer admissions rate is extremely low or your stats might not be stellar, do not let it discourage you, just make sure to give the applications 100% of your effort.
3) Try to narrow down your selection to one or two safeties, one or two “inbetweenies,” and one or two reaches. Please note applying to eight schools or more can increase your risk for a future clinically insane diagnosis…
4) START EARLY – the more you accomplish during the summer, the better; the fall will come up sooner than you know it and it will be extremely difficult to juggle schoolwork and application paperwork at the same time.
5) IDOC Paperwork is the devil in disguise – if your school requires this paperwork/process, make sure to complete your tax return (if applicable) as soon as possible, along with your parents tax returns.
6) Plan a vacation or other extended activity immediately after your classes end to keep your mind off decision letters; waiting in acceptance purgatory this past month was miserably wretched.

Sorry for the LONG post (as usual), I hope someone finds it useful lol, enjoy your weekend everyone! :) :) :)

Attending: CORNELL

I was a business major at Lehigh and I'm extremely happy to be attending Cornell's Applied Economics and Management program. Especially since I live in state. Penn is a great school, but I applied for economics, which wasn't true to my application. I always thought that Penn was the biggest reach, but looking at these posts I see people getting rejected from Cornell and into Penn, so that does not hold true.

hey i just have a qusetion for everyone thats transferring..
How do you tell your current school you're leaving them?..just make a phone call? and is there any paperwork involved, or do you just drop all your classes registered for fall? (i know this may vary by school)

Didn't expect to get into Harvard/Columbia, the essay prompts were simple so I used ones I already had. U Chicago was really disappointing though. I think I'm a pretty well rounded student but I didn't have the foresight to do extracurriculars that would set me apart from other people.
Oh well, its only undergrad, I'm going to pour my soul into my work at NYU and shoot for MIT/U Chicago for grad school.

When you apply to every single Ivy that you can submit an app to, then your reasons for transferring become very nonspecific. I think that they look more closely at the "Why ___?" essay for transfers than for high school seniors.

^^^ I agree

econ major

goyoungha i thought about that a couple of days ago. For instance if you apply to penn because you want to move from a big school to a medium sized school, but then you apply to cornell as well, that will probably raise a red flag. I think that's the only reason they ask which other schools you're applying to.no?

Yes. Part of the problem is that applying to schools with vastly different environments makes your transfer essay very doubtful and certainly less forceful. I don't know of schools that ask which other schools you're applying to, however.

Oh i get what you mean now..

Are SATII's required even if you did not take them in high school?

rogue, my major is history of art.
