2007 Presidential Scholars

Cutoff varies state to state--they go as low as necessary to get a minimum of twenty male and twenty female candidates.

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. I really don't know much about how this works.

I'm on the list, but I'm seriously considering not doing anything after looking at that application. Just when I thought I was done with all that, I have more paperwork and essays to do. Yay.

just some info I'll throw out--

I wasn't NMSF (CS b/c lower psat score..my school only allows one-time take)

from NYS, and got my letter today

800 m 800 v (750 writing, but 800 a prior time...)

i've gotten the impression that this is single-sitting, so i'm guessing that since nys is usually fairly competitive, they're not counting writing b/c i don't think i'd be in it then...unless it's the glorious fact that i'm female.

and the site is down right now, oh goody...reminds me of coca cola stuff...

oh actually i just reread the thing and it says something about highest scores from each section...and that duplicate/lower scores are dropped...so i'm thinking it's actually best each section, any time you take it...still no clue about writing or not, though. good luck to all!

Haha stupid overachieving state! I had my 760 in Math, though (can't complain...but then again it's a little sad that I STILL don't get geometry, and I've finished AP Calc lolllllllll) so maybe it was M + V? No idea...

Hm, yeah somehow I was under the impression this thing was a scam.
But now I'm happy. :D I'm in an essay-writing mood today anyway.

Mm'kay. Is this even worth anything at all if you've already been accepted to college? As in, is it the slightest bit prestigious in later life? Because they make you write SIX ESSAYS for a "chance" to be selected to meet the president. That's four or five too many. Especially given who the president is.

I think the scores are only single sitting; they ask for a test date, and there is only room for one....

I'm pretty sure they only considered M+CR this year. The website states that since the two year qualifying window (Sept 2004 - Oct 2006) included the time when the new SAT was not mandatory, they don't consider Writing. That may change for next year (since it will be mandatory for all potential candidates). The lady that emailed me back said that the committee will consider changes in a future meeting.

thanks for the info, chronicidal!

anybody have any ideas for the significant photo thing?

As far as listing scores go, I have a 2300/1500 and a 2290/1560. While writing may not be used to qualify you, which one do you guys suggest using? (Yes, I'm from Nevada, and the cutoffs are pretty 'low' here XD)

Wait...I got a 2400 on the SAT in one sitting and wasn't invited. What happened?

EDIT: My test was in November, and apparently they only accept scores up to October. I'm sorry that I had to take the Physics subject test in October.

ever_after--were both of them in the specific time window? if yes, I'd go with the higher cr/math...you can show your writing skills in your essays. plus, not everyone gives the writing section full credibility yet, so if you show strong writing skills, but slightly lower scores, they'll probly write it off as CB's mistake.
