I got an email from them that I'm a winner! Anyone else get this award, and know if colleges can, and will be notified (including early applications)?

Thanks!

Thanks!

what is this award?
im a sophmore so i have no clue.

Most number 5's on 8 AP Math and Science Exams

"The Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement are awarded each year to students with the greatest number of scores of 5 on eight AP math and science exams, as well as to teachers and schools based on student participation and performance in Advanced Placement math, science, and technology courses."

What was the greatest number of scores of 5? Does that mean that if someone gets all 5s then the person with seven 5s and a 4 doesn't get it?

To people who won the award- how many 5's did you get?

just wondering.. how do we tell if we're state or national winners (got 8 5's)

if all 5s are from the required sci and math APs you are in the running for national; tie is broken by actual test scores (points earned on eth exams) not just the 5s, which is a value representing your competency in the subject.

mm right, I was just wondering if there was a way to tell from the letters/emails they sent. oh well. guess we'll find out sooner or later.

Wait itsme123, how do they know how many points you earned on the exam? College Board keeps/uses that info for stuff even after the 1-5 grade is assigned?

yes. that's exactly right; for the above purpose.

8 Science/Math Exams? But...isn't that taking ALL of the math and science APs?

8 is a lot! I can only think of...

Calc/Stats

Environ, Bio, Chem, Physics B, Mechanics, and Electricity ...

That's all 8!

There's Computer Science AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics C Mechanics, and Physics C Electricity and Magnetism. Computer Science A, Calculus AB, and Physics B don't count towards the total.

Oh my...that means if we don't take even one if any of the above... ...we aren't eligible for the award? O=

Wow this one is tough!

You're eligible for the award if you have the highest number of 5's on those tests for your gender in your state, or for your gender in the nation for the national award. Most states don't have people with all 8, and some states only have 1 qualifier (or maybe 0 too, I'm not sure), since you need a minimum of either 2 or 3, don't remember which, to qualify. So, I think like North Dakota, Wyoming, and Mississippi only had one qualifier last year.

zafara and all the people who did get the letter - you guys are seniors, right?

@ shravas...

OK, so you don't need all 8 to qualify? ^^... wait then what is required?... All 5s on a minimum of... O=

yes. only APs taken until junior year counts. You need a minimum of two 5's to merit consideration in those 8 APs.

It depends on the state, since they look for the highest number of 5's in that state.

Are Canadians eligible for this award?

Also, does anyone know if there is a Canadian version of the AP state scholar award?

Damn, I wish my school offered that many AP's
