2012rent, your post is very helpful. Regarding Orange: is the town dull? I know in comparison to LA it is, but overall, is it a boring place?

And does anyone know how long the Metro rail takes from Chapman to LA?

Congratz to everyone who has been accepted- me too! (and with $$)!!!
I totally agree with schase08 if we all do decide to go lets all go on a disneyland trip or something.

Oh and to anwser the lingering questions on this thread- the scholarship notifications come 1-2 weeks after your admission letter, and if you recieve nothing you wern't awarded one. but if u filed a FASFA a complete financial folder will be sent to you summarizing what merit and need awards you were granted.

GOOD LUCK everyone.

Hi Hopeful2012er,
To answer your question, it depends on what your definition of "boring" is. If you have a car (or friends with cars), you can go to the beach in 1/2 hour, be hiking in the mountains in an hour, there is Irvine park, which is huge, where you can spend the day hanging out, big mall close by. I don't know how long the train takes to get to L.A. from Chapman, but once you're at the station, you need a car. You can take the bus, but it takes forever to get anywhere because the city is so spread out. The area around Chapman could be construed as boring, but there is much to see in the surrounding areas. Is there anything specific that you're interested in being near for your time in college?

I have heard that a lot of the Chapman students are from the OC/LA area and that they go home for the weekend. Since the film school has such an excellent reputation, it attracts students from all over the country and those students will likely stay on campus for the weekends. The film students will probably become friends due to their shared interests and hang out together during the weekends.

When I visited LA this summer, I kept thinking how difficult it would be to live in LA without a car. The Metro Rail system is wonderful, but if your destination is not near a rail, you're screwed, because I didn't find their bus system to run frequently enough. So transportation could be a huge issue, as I don't think I'll have a car freshman or sophomore year.

Having grown up around the Ohio State campus, which is one of the largest in the US, I'm used to having an abundance of happenings geared toward 18-25 year olds. So to go to a small town worries me, even if it is near LA, because I'm so used to a fast environment -- it could be culture shock, but in a bad way to where I feel bored. I really wish I had had the opportunity to visit the campus .. so my thoughts are based on assumption for the most part. I appreciate your answers though - it all helps :)

Hopeful2012er, if my daughter chooses to attend Chapman University, she will NOT be coming home on weekends. She will also not have her car. (We are not commuting distance.) My son never had his car at UCLA! There will be many students who will live on campus seven days a week, so do not worry, you will not be alone! A family member of ours does commute to Chapman, but we are different. Cars are great to have, but the temptation to not get too involved is easier with a car. UCLA has been a dream for our son in every way. Chapman is one of my daughter's dream schools. She loves everything about it. Orange is not L.A. or New York, but it is a "cute" town and you can have fun, and when you want "excitement", some of the friends you undoubtedly will make will have cars. If a "fast environment" is really number one on your list, because I don't think of Chapman as a "fast environment" exactly, there may be a better choice for you.

Even though a lot of kids do go home on the weekends, there are always a ton of people who stay on campus. And there are always plenty of things going on. It is not necessarily a "fast-paced" area, but there are always things to do, and beaches/LA/Disneyland/concerts etc... are a short drive. Even if you don't have a car, friends will.

One of the problems about not having a car at Chapman is that all the food facilities close down a 7pm. That's right, 7:00 and there are few restaurants around. This is a big difference from UCLA, USC and such where you can go somewhere to eat or hang out almost 24/7. So if you ever have a class until 8:00 better have a car.

Ya I second that I am currently a freshman film production major at chapman, and basically i go up to LA every weekend, there really isn't anything to do around Chapman, I mean yes there is disneyland, but that gets old after a while... So I basically hang out at USC every weekend with friends haha, so my suggestion for any incoming freshman... have a car or make friends with someone who does, unless you like staying on campus all weekend... old towne orange has antiquing? if you're into that lol

scarletstar89, why not have your USC friends down to Chapman? Liven things up on the campus! Still, there will be people who stay on campus, particularly out of state students. I guess they plan their meals accordingly and make their friends accordingly, too.

Daughter is in! Just got her acceptance yesterday! We are happy and hoping to see about Merit Aid. Fingers crossed!

straycat, congratulations to your daughter! We are waiting for all of my daughter's schools to notify her, but Chapman is definitely right there at the top.

Congratulations, Straycat! Do you think your D will choose Chapman if the aid is good? I remember you said you were from N. Texas. What interested your D in Chapman?

Congrats, straycat :) What major?

Does "Admission Approved" mean I got in? I'm Film Production, by the way.

From what I have read elsewhere, it does mean that you got in. When did your web advisor say that? We keep checking each day. Do you mind posting your stats? Congratulations!

My WebAdvisor said it sometime after 5PM CST, I think - I didn't get home until really late yesterday night though, so I'm not exactly sure when it said it. Anyway, as far as stats go, 740 Writing, 720 Math, 700 Verbal; 12/(400 something) rank; 100.91 GPA... am I missing any stats? I didn't take the ACT.

Gregcotten, I'm sure it means you either got Film production or your second choice major since Chapman does not admit you if you don't get one of your top two majors. Very exciting!

Have you applied to other film schools and heard back from any of them? Also, what kinds of things did you have on your creative resume?

Adultparentmom haha I would but there really isn't as much to do down here, considering I also grew up 30 minutes south of Chapman in a small city near Laguna Beach, I prefer getting away from Orange County and heading to LA where there is so much more to do over the weekends. But yes out of state students do manage to have a lot of fun at Chapman. I guess you work with what you've got right?

Gregcotton,
Our son checked this morning, thanks to your post, and it said Admission Approved as well, and he applied to film production!
