Question for the group on 4-year scholarship. My son sent me the link to the status page that showed he was awarded a 4-year scholarship. It said paperwork would follow.

My question. What exactly does the scholarship cover. Tuition and fees are listed on the site. Does that mean either in-state or out-of-state tuition or will they only cover in-state. Also, no mention of housing, so I assume the student pays their own way on that front?

Yes. My understanding … which is fast fading as my mid ultimately declined this wonderful scholarship, choosing once he was chosen, to attend USNA … is that they really work at plugging their students into the lower cost, in state publics, for obvious financial reasons. And while not exclusively for this reason… billets come into play … is one of the purposes for identifying where your 1,2,3 choices may be.

So my short, not fully informed answer is yes, even for out of state tuition, assuming that’s your future Mid’s #1 choice. And even if it’s otherwise, it does not exclude the possibility of changing the U venue.

I just got a 4 year Navy option scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. Does anyone know if the scholarship will pay for the summer semester?

I declined my full Marine-Option NROTC scholorship last month after I recieved my appointment to the Academy. I am happy I applied though, because it would be an amazing back-up plan. I really like what I saw and heard from the program…

I just received my 4 yr NROTC scholarship to Purdue University, but I have already punched my ticket to USAFA and have no intentions on changing…

I am not sure I am going to turn it down right away, possibly wait until the end of next month? Just precautionary in case something happens before I arrive at the Springs… Any thoughts?

I have found the NROTC process a little odd at least in my particular case. I received my appointment to the Naval Academy yesterday, but my NROTC scholarship application stills show no decision has been made. Of course, I am not going to take it if it is offered, but I would have thought my NROTC application would have been approved a long time ago. Maybe they communicate with the Academy and if they are told a particular applicant is likely to receive an appointment they defer offering until they find out, although some here received both. Seems odd to me.

I just received word about my selection for a 4 yr NROTC scholarship! The next board dates are: Feb 25-29, Mar 10-14 and 24-28, April 7-11 and 21-25. Results are posted 1-2 weeks after the board adjourns. Check your status on the NROTC site for the words: Select, No Select, or No Decision. If “No Decision”, it means that the applicant will move forward to the next board meeting. Good luck to those who are waiting to hear. I am still looking for that large envelope to come my way. . .

My daughter received appointment to USNA in November. Her NROTC site still says “no decision.” She is still waiting to hear from 7 schools (April)before making decision although every day that goes by brings her closer to signing with Navy (swimming).

wow ww2buff! that is so awesome! thanks for the schedule of future selection board meetings. i asked my recruiter and he never gave that to me. obviously you have an awesome recruiter! :)

by the way, what was the date of the selection board that just passed?

the board website says there is still no decision (since January) on my son’s package and the deadline to lock in housing at any of the 3 schools he has been accepted is 15 days away (May 1) and I am getting VERY anxious about all this. Is there some way of learning if his package has even been reviewed yet?

How do they notify him? Will he get something in the mail before he sees an update on the website?

All of the packages have been reviewed at least once by now. I would contact the recruiter he worked with. An alternative would be to contact the NROTC unit at his first choice school and see if they have any info.

If you have not heard by now the chances are not good unless there was a communication snafu. An alternative would to enroll at his #1 choice and enroll in NROTC as a College Programmer. He could then compete for the 3 year scholarship.

My son’s notification last year was via the web site. He got a letter about 10 days later. Others have gotten a call from unit CO of the school to which the scholarship was awarded. Good luck!
