That is great news, GreatAmerican and Xchefmike!
Congratulations to your families!

Hey GA ... that's not a shabby "back up", which I'm assuming it is! You can keep the family jewels in Ft. Knox still, I suppose. :D Congratulations, of course to you and S! Pretty doggone

P.S. It seems GA and xcelMike are indicating that a "round" of NROTC scholarships have been awarded. YES?

Perhaps this merits it's own thread to see who has 'em?

I got one to Rice over a month ago.

Since you say this is the first round, now I'm really confused.

Also, there is a PFT for NROTC correct?

I never took one if there is.

^^^^^
No, there is no PRT, PFT, or CFA required to obtain a Navy ROTC scholarship. However, once you join your NROTC unit, you will be required to pass the Navy PRT twice a year.

Congrats! I visited RPI and their NROTC unit 2 weeks ago and I loved it! I put it down as my #2 on my NROTC app.

I got mine to MIT about a month ago, transferred it to University of Michigan, and am waiting for word from USNA(LOA's from USMA & USAFA).

The last NROTC Scholarship Board for 2007 meets 10-14 December. To have a chance of your application being reviewed by the Board, it needs to be completed by 16 Nov 2007.

when is the next NROTC Scholarship Board?

I put in all my stuff November 1. I was told that there will be a November review board. Does anyone have any information on this? I applied early decision to George Washington and had hoped to hear back from the Navy before GWU comes out with their decision Dec. 15.

^^^^^
For a definite answer, ask your Navy recruiter. I can tell you that it won't be the week of 19 November.

For anyone who is interested, the next board will start on 13 November and results will be posted beginning of December, specific day unknown.

When was the late board and what are the dates of the remaining boards?

Thanks!

I got my results last Thursday (submitted my application in november), and I got NROTC scholarship to Carnegie Mellon. The next day I got my LOA from USNA :)

Congrats JayBee! You should be very proud!

How were you notified? Phone call, letter, etc?

What is your intended major? Would you mind sharing your GPA, SAT stats so I can get a read on if I have a chance still?

Thanks IM! :)

For NROTC: I was checking my status online every day for the past few months lol, and I checked on Thursday and it said I was awarded schol. to CMU. I got all the paperwork in the mail yesterday.

For USNA: I finished my packet Dec. 25, and I got my letter saying I was "guaranteed an offer of appointment" last Friday. It was dated Jan. 11. The only thing keeping me from an appt is dodmerb.

I wrote that Mech. Engineering was my intended major on the NROTC app, but if I attend USNA (which I plan to) there's a good chance I'll do Naval Architecture. ahhhh it's too early to decide

My stats:
SAT: 2040
M: 750
CR: 630
WR: 660

ACT: 30
M: 28
E: 34
S: 28
R: 30

GPA: 3.94/4.00 (unweighted) in private college prep school
2 AP's last year (Calc AB: 4, USH: 3)
3 AP's this year (Calc BC, Eng Lit, Psych, and I'll retake USH)

2 year class president, 2 time team captain, 3 years varsity golf (letter), 1 year varsity soccer (letter), 2 years jv basketball, 3 years FIRST robotics (1 year team captain), 2 year school ambassador, 2 years part time job (promoted to shift leader last december), NASS attendee, lots of volunteer work

Nomination came from district rep. Sen 1 (hillary clinton) interviewed me but said no (lol), Sen 2 (charles schumer) declined to interview because I already had nomination from district rep

BGO interview went very well, I brought a resume and he was really really impressed by it

essay was exactly 500 words lol

and I'm a white dude from western NY

Jaybee:

Thanks for the info. Your stats are very comparable to mine and ECs as well. I did not apply USNA, only NROTC.

The the difference is your major - Mech Engineering. I've been told that is where most of the scholarships are going towards. I think my History major is really going to hurt me. :(

Did you apply Navy or the Marine option?

There's a thread floating around here somewhere talking about how the USMC doesn't really care about major, and that some of the best officers were history majors like yourself.

Personally, I would love to major in history. It's always been my favorite subject (and TV channel lol), but I realize there's a lot more opportunities in today's world with a technical degree. I suppose it's going against the "do what you love doing most" rule, and I do respect you for pursuing what you love.

Navy option
