Yeah, nursing hears back earlier

I’m going to transfer to NYU for the spring 2010 semester, so could someone tell me if my stats are up to par?

Currently, I’m a sophomore at Georgia State University with a 3.86 GPA, majoring in political science with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in history (formerly a journalism major.) At the time of submitting my application, I should have well over 60 credits (not sure if that’s a problem or not).

However, although I currently have a decent college gpa, I didn’t fair so well in high school and I graduated with a 3.05 GPA and a score of 1700 on the SATs.

So here are my stats:

3.86 college GPA (This may go up to a 3.87 or down to a 3.85 depending upon one of my classes. However, I’m sure that it will rise again during the summer)
A year of dj experience on Georgia State’s radio station WRAS-Atlanta (the world’s largest college radio station; this also coincided with my former major)
By the time of submitting my application, I’ll also have a year of assistant managerial experience at my job, which I have been working at since August of last year
Member of Georgia State’s law school club
3.05 high school gpa
1700 combined SATs
over 100 hours of community service (combination of volunteer work in college as well as tutoring elementary school students in high school)
I’ve also made the dean’s list every semester since I’ve been in college and the president’s list once.

I know I could easily get into UGA, but I’m trying to strive higher.

Also, I’ve read on that NYU no longer reviews your SAT scores after 30 credits so this should help my chances.

In addition, I’ll be applying to CAS.

Ok sweetpotato, thats cool seems like a good reason :)

hehe yea i feel the same way, theyve told me not to worry about the cost really, just make sure i do well, because its an investment worth making only sucks that theres like almost no scholarships and stuff for intl. students:P

eehh ? whhhatt?? how is almost none of the censored ?

lol. That’s a lot of spam

east, i dont know anything about admissions but your gpa is great and your extracurriculars look really interesting. even tho you may have had a low high school gpa, the college gpa shows a lot of improvement i’m sure you could talk about that and how you have been working your a$$ off

Thanks sweet. That’s exactly what I was planning on writing my essay about. I’m just hoping I have more of a shot since I’ve improved exponentially since high school. I did try pretty hard during the last 2 years of high school (I never made anything less than a 3.75 each semester from my junior year and thereafter) but it still wasn’t enough to make up for all of the slacking off that I did during my first two years. That stuff has really come back to haunt me.

By the way, does ethnicity make a difference in college transfers? I’ve always heard that minorities who are underrepresented at certain schools have a higher chance of being accepted than those people who belong to the majority. I’m not sure if this applies to private institutions as well though.

From what I’ve seen, African-Americans only represent about 4% of NYU’s student body.

east89- Your academic history sounds very similar to mine. Let’s hope we both get in.

Hey guys where are you from?

I’m originally from NY, but I moved to Georgia during high school.

And good luck to you damanja

I hope I get in!! I only apply to 3 universities.

Is is true that NYU doesn´t count your SAT if you have 30 credits?
because I´m a really bad in taking test.

Yes Luena, it is true that they don’t count your SATs after 30 credits.

Hopefully someone on here will get their letter tomorrow.
