2009 PSAT Scores and Discussion

^ #32 of CR3 was referring to the dual-passage about the planets and finding smaller ones, etc. This question was specifically asking what the tone was in 4 lines of Passage 2.
Full sentence for #31 of writing:
Scientists HAVE RECENTLY DISCOVERED that not all genes adhere to predictable Mendelian patterns of inheritance; IT HAS forced them TO REEXAMINE some FORMERLY UNASSAILABLE assumptions.
(The all caps indicates what was underlined)

^ Ah, then I believe I got both of those right too.

Again, thanks for that post! It was very helpful.

That’s true…good point, micawber. Especially since SOME of us (me…heheee…) have their next and upcoming (and first) SAT on the fifth…this Saturday…in two days…please post some SAT scores. Everyone, please. :)

Sophomore year PSAT: 210
Sophomore year SAT: 2120 (but I was very sick that day, so my score may have been affected)

…decent indicator, I guess?

I don’t know. I’ll wait till I get my official PSAT score report from this year and then post again when I get my results back from the January SAT.

I think I might have missed #31… :(

@ blake93: Aw, I’m sorry. I remember back in mid October when I was reading the PSAT discussion thread and found out that I had actually missed some questions - that feeling was not a pleasant one to have.

But you’re still a sophomore, so your scores won’t count this year. And you have a whole year to prepare before it will. :D

My son and daughter just got their PSAT results back (go to New Jersey School). One got a 208 and the other a 217. Couple of questions:

1) Do you think they will be commended students - I guess that happens in the fall?

2) Any chance for them to get semifinalist status? When does that happen?

Thanks.

@ fledgling

That’s true, but I had high hopes for this year. I’m sure it’s one of a few (hopefully just a few) basically careless mistakes.

I’m not sure if it has been done yet, but here are the answers to questions marked as “hard” for form S

Minkominko - They will definitely get commended status.

Unfortunately, New Jersey has a trend of a high semifinalist cutoff, 221 being last year’s. More likely than not, they will not make the cutoff. I live in New Jersey as well, so I have that to look forward to.

I’m pretty sure commended occurs during September of the following year as well as semifinalist (but not certain); this is, of course, assuming that both of your children are juniors. Otherwise, they would not qualify for anything.

@ minkominko: All the Commended/Semifinalist stuff is usually announced at the beginning of the senior year. Since the Semifinalist cutoff for the state of New Jersey has been 221 for the past two years (Class of '09 and Class of '10), I don’t think it would change much this year. On the other hand, it is very likely that both your children would qualify as ‘Commended’ students.

Most importantly, tell them to be proud of their scores! Those scores are actually very high relative to those of other students in the country, and would even qualify them as Semifinalists in several other states, so they’re certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

Extremely excited about my 234 (Form S) :D

CR: 74 (3 wrong)
M: 80 (0 wrong)
W: 80 (0 wrong)

Woohoo!!!

Just to see progress:
Freshman: 186
Sophomore: 207
Junior: 234

Wow! Great job!

Awesome score, Mao! In fact, a 234 is what I have predicted for myself (77 CR, 79 M, 78 W), based on reading all the PSAT discussions here. I took Form W though… hope there are no nasty surprises when my score is finally released.

But yeah, 234 = awesomeness, especially when you consider that the PSAT has such a tough curve. :D

Information from here:

indicate that the cutoffs may be lower for many states this year. 25% of us juniors (including me) did worse this year than last year. The mean score, based on the 2008 test, of CR went up 0.3 pts, M went down 0.5 pts, and W went up 0.1 pts. Also, unless I read this incorrectly…almost 1.6 million juniors took it in 2008. A little over 1.2 million took it this year.

Hey Alihaq717, I followed that link you posted but didn’t see where to enter the code :X
My dean gave me my score and let me write down the code, but thus far I can’t find where to enter it to see the breakdown of problems. :S!!

I got a PSAT score of 200. I live in Texas, and I’m not quite sure if the National Hispanic scores go by State or if they’re national and either way what would be the probable cutoff for that? I’m also not sure what the cutoff will be for commended scholar this year. I could swear that this years test was harder except for the writing skills. I’m assuming the number would go down but I’m not sure by how much. Please help.

And the incredibly depressing part is that on the critical reading and writing skills sections I was able to narrow 4 questions down to 2 answers for each and I missed EVERY SINGLE ONE! I also made some incredibly careless mistakes like putting for the locker question that it was 155 instead of 310 because I didn’t read/pay attention (I don’t remember which it was) to the “even” part of the answer. ****!

got my scores today:

math 71 (-3)
CR 72 (-4)
writing 70 (-3)

btw, where can we see the questions? the website says that the score analysis is not presently available for 2009.

p.s. im givin the sat tommorow, wish me good luck :stuck_out_tongue: :)

When you said you got your scores today, I thought they were online already. :stuck_out_tongue: College Board says the score analysis will be up mid-December, so wait until then. I wish my school would distribute scores already…
