Ahh, I get mine on Monday! I’m so worried… I thought I did okay but after reading through this thread, I’ve pretty much given up hope… plus cut off for international schools is 221!!! T_____________T

I got mine in the mail today (homeschooled) and freaked out. But it was all right, I guess:

Math: 70 (yuck)
CR: 77
Writing: 73 (with only TWO wrong!! nasty curve)
Total: 220

Nice even number, but I don’t know if it’s enough to qualify for semis. I live in New York so I suppose I have a chance (last year’s was 219) but I’m not sure…oh well. I didn’t spend too much time studying and don’t see myself spending too much time agonizing over the SAT either…

Did anyone figure out if that stupid “halcyon” question was experimental or not?

^ Our dean told us today that 218 was the NY cutoff for this year (I think). Congrats.

I hope you’re right, monstor!

To be honest I’m just glad it’s over and I can forget about the stupidity of it all. Standardized tests don’t test much anyways…

^You’re just saying that because you got a high score. Had it been a low score, I would have put a bazillion dollars on you sobbing.

I went to the Guidiance counselors office to ask about my scores.
I get mine next week.
Scared!

Where does 211 stand for a Freshman and

Here’s my breakdown

CR 69
Maths 79

Can you guys please tell me how I can bring my CR and WR to 70+ please?
Thanks

^Mukubird:
For a freshamn that is a solid score, especially in math, and you still have time to improve to get national merit. For writing, do practice problems in SAT study books. Recognize the types of writing problems that the psat tests for. If you know the common errors, you will do much better. I got 57 on writing sophmore year psat bu then got 800 writing on the SAt by doing this. As for reading, I am awful and have no advice.

Mukubird, that’s a great score for a freshman. For reading I recommend studying the types of questions asked and learning the strategies. ETS will often repeat words from the reading selection in the choices to throw you off. Read the questions carefully and don’t waste too much time poring over the passage, go right to the questions…

I have also found that studying vocabulary intensively is not as helpful as simply doing lots of practice problems. Identifying the types of questions asked is important, but the execution is key. You can also identify the typical PSAT problems, and learn their tricks. Once again, carefully read the questions.

I assume you’re planning to take PSAT next year as well?

Jealous of your math score btw. :)

ALRIGHT I AM FREAKING OUT.

The person who just posted the PSAT questions and answers for form w, you said that the last question for the second section of math was 1/2 and it was for the constant y and x problem. I do not remember this problem at all: in fact, I remember that the scarves/hats one was the final question! How come I don’t remember this question? Can somebody please tell me if they remember if it was on the same page as the last problem or was it all alone on the back or something, and I missed it?!?!?!? Can somebody who has the booklet back please tell me?!?!? I am going crazy.

My school needs to hurry up!!!

@ alihaq717: You might not have remembered 1/2 because you put 0.5 on your answer sheet, like I did. All too often, people freak out when they don’t recognize certain answers when they actually had written them in another form.

My school needs to hurry up too. Yes, I feel that I’ve predicted my score accurately after reading so many threads, but it would be nice if I could get the official thing. I’m getting quite tired of logging onto Naviance and seeing only a blank dash under my PSAT score. My counselor says we should receive the scores this week, but it’s already Friday and there’s no sign of the scores online… ahhhh!

^ how would school administrators (such as deans) know what the cutoffs are if they are not released until next year? Do they really know more than they let on? Because one of friends said that one of our GC’s said 210 iss FL’s cutoff this year but i dont know if that was a serious thing or a guess (my friend doesnt know much about Ntl Merit in the first place).

^ the question was "In the xy plane, the line with equation ax + by = 1, where a and b are constants, intersects the y-axis where y=2. What is the value of b?

Answer: b = 1/2

Yes, it was the last question; it came right after the scarves and hats question and was on the same page, right underneath it.

Yes! That answer sounds really familiar now… I remember doing the problem and getting the right answer. Thanks a ton.

nmsfsat

Thank you for the great advice. Wow, 800 on writing. How do you do so well on the essay?

ziggypop

Thank you for the CR advices. I am planning to use the BB and do you think i should study vocabs at all, because they haunt me at times in Sentence completions. And I am going to take PSAT again next year.

Yeah and as for maths, my teacher gave me a lot of maths olympiad preparations so I think that helped a lot. And thanks again

can anyone tell me how many no errors there were on the writing section (form w). I am so nervous waiting to get my scores back…my school is also being slow.

Yeah the no error information would be really great. I ended up with 4 no errors I think.

On the finding the error questions (21-34) there were 4 NE
23) Bach question
24) explanation of/for question
28) Unseasonably mild question
34) Trails (“came”) question

My English teacher was surprised that there were 4 overall and 2 in a row, since last year there were only 2 in all.

Yes awesome! All this new info is looking good for me. TQSMNTASP, I know this is a lot to ask (especially considering all you have done already!) but could you possibly scan the booklet with the correct answers circled? haha that is too extreme actually but it’s hell waiting until january for my scores…

and btw, about the questions you posted before: those were all the questions that were rated as “hard” on the PSAT by college board?
