2009 PSAT Scores and Discussion

Ok here are my scores:
total: score:208, percentile:98
Critical Reading: score: 74, 0 omit 3 wrong, 99 percentile
Math: 66, 0 omit 4 MC wrong, 2 SP wrong, 93 percentile
writing: 68, 0 omit 3 wrong, 96 percentile

p.s. is it normal to have such a low score but a high percentile?

Unless the College Board made a mistake (–another one, that is), I would assume that your results are normal.

It’s a little strange entering this conversation on page 77, but here are my scores for the curve as well:

Total score: 233, 99th percentile
CR: 80, 1 wrong, 0 omitted
M: 78, 1 MC wrong, 0 omitted
W: 75, 1 wrong, 0 omitted

I’m taking the SATs in January and I hope that these scores reflect my future SAT score, haha.

silverturtle – which items did you include in your petition ?? the San Juan Capistrano " an explanation of the" and/or others ??? Any response yet ?

I only appealed the “explanation of” question about the swallows. I did not find any others to be erroneous; if the case were otherwise, I would have further petitioned.

There has been no response yet.

I got my scores back in TX and couldn’t be happier.

(Form W)
CR: 77 - 99%
Math: 71 - 97%
Writing: 78 - 99%
Total: 226 - 99%

Apparently I had thought I missed questions I never missed, but overall I’m very happy with my scores since I scored well above the 216 TX cutoff.

If anyone needs to see answers or anything from Form W, PM me.

edit: never mind
congrats to thsoe who made it tho

Sophomore SAT 1st Attempt: 1680
Sophomore SAT 2nd Attempt: 1870
Junior PSAT: 207

I’m very happy that I’ll most likely be commended.

I think the problem was I never get up until like 9:30-9:50, and I suddenly had to get up at 7 something so that’s why my SAT scores are lower than my PSAT score which was taken during the day.

I mean, look at the changes from my first SAT

PSAT converted to SAT

CR: 690 (96th) +40
M: 650 (91st)+150
W: 730 (99th)+200

2070–>98th Overall

AHHH I’m getting my PSAT scores tomorrow!

I just got my scores today and I scored a 213.
CR: 62 :frowning: stupid philosophical readings
M: 71
W: 80
Total: 213, 99th percentile
Form W, if that matters

Is this a good score?
I’m a sophomore so it doesn’t count yet but I would still like to know.
If I got the same score or something similar (hopefully higher because
I’ll actually prepare for it) next year do you think I would qualify for National Merit?

I’m from Nevada (which is ranked like 49th in state “intelligence,” not sure that makes a difference)

Finally got my psat scores -.-

As a sophomore, 64/70/70.

Kinda depressed about CR.

Anyway, my friend, who took it on Saturday, missed two in writing, and got a 68. I took it Wednesday, missed three in writing, and got a 70. This seems kind of unfair…

oh jeez I don’t know… that 12 points above average CR score is going to hurt you… I’d start looking at local community colleges now…

S was quite disappointed upon learning that his PSAT dropped 14 points from Soph year to Jr (225 down to a 211). Should still be okay for MI, which had a cut-off of 209 last year. He quickly recovered, however, learning of his 36 on the December ACT. The last month has definitely been an up and down around here!

^ Well, at least he’s “up” on the part that actually counts. Congratulations!

As a sophmore, I got:

Critical Reading: 59 - 92 percentile
Mathematics: 72 - 99 percentile
Writing: 66 - 98 percentile
to total 197 - 96 percentile compared with juniors

How do you guys do so well in critical reading?! I think math and writing will be no problem, but I want to do better in CR for next year, as that has always been, by far, my lowest score. What is the best way to improve it?

^ Combine the first and second word in CR and you got your answer on how to improve it. If it’s vocabulary, then try Direct Hits.

Does anyone know when you can see your PSAT score online without the activation code? My school has been really slow about it this year, and I’m really anxious to see if I make my state’s cutoff.

duermomucho, it is sometime in February.

Do we know the PSAT cutoffs already? That other guy said it was a 216 for texas, but how does he know already? It cant be last year’s because last years was a 215.

No, we do not know the cutoffs.
