2010-2011 Auditions

Over the past few years, we have learned so much about the crazy process of auditioning for musical theatre programs from College Confidential. Knowing that things change over time, and in the sprit of “paying it forward,” here’s a little information about how a recent audition day at CCM went…

On the first audition day of the 2010-11 season, there were about 60 auditionees. Sign in was easy – find your name, pick up your schedule, have a seat. There was a short talk about the day, the school, a Q&A, then the students left for their dance call. Monologue and voice audition was scheduled based on the order in which the University had received the application. My kiddo had about an hour after her dance call to change, have a snack, warm up, etc. She then went into a lovely recital hall where she performed her songs and monologues (said the pianist was fantastic and the acoustics were great!), they talked with her briefly, and she was done. Auditions continued throughout the day, so some people had longer or shorter breaks after the dance call. The Starbucks in the CCM building was very popular with auditionees!

CCM did not have a theory test. Families could schedule a general University of Cincinnati information session in the afternoon if their schedule allowed, as well as a campus tour. Results will most likely be available in about a week (yikes!) if a solid yes or no. The other possible category is “no action,” which means no decision has been made yet, and in that case, a student will hear of their status in March.

Has anyone gotten a call from last weekend CCM Musical Theater auditions?

No call here Babsie…based on last years stats I am guessing there will be very few that do this early. A no go from Baldwin Wallace in a letter though…D took it very well.

CCM will notify those accepted by email.

Check you status on CCM website…some letters are posted.
Not good news for us.

Yeah, same here. But CCM (and all schools) know what they’re looking for to make up their class, and a kid can only attend ONE school – you just need that one “yes” along the way, and the audition season is young. Best to those still waiting/yet to audition.

Has anyone else heard anything from CCM? I see a few have posted notifications from last week. ???

We got a “no” as well. Onward and upward! Too bad, cause they have a great group there.

miles93 - It looks like the “no” notifications have been posted to people’s statuses - haven’t heard of anyone getting a “yes” or a deferral yet…

I have a student who is auditioning at CCM and this student heard that Aubrey Berg asks each auditionee a question and appears under the impression that everyone is asked the same thing. I certainly am aware of the kinds of questions asked in auditions and interviews generally speaking. However, I am not aware of a specific question asked at CCM. Can anyone who has auditioned there this year or last specify if this is the case and what the question may be or if not wishing to post it, to click on my name and email me? I am not aware of one specific question or if this is true. My student asked me and so I thought I would put it out there to CCers. Thank you.

They just asked my daughter why she wanted to attend CCM. I heard some current CCM MT students talking about their “question” last year, didn’t hear what it was though.

The CCM admissions person just said the neatest thing (very loose quote): “We’ve turned down a number of students who are now making it big on Broadway and we’ve accepted plenty who aren’t.” In other words, she was very encouraging to the almost 800 students who will be turned down this year. What a kind thing to say coming from the top of the heap of MT schools!

Hey, has anybody heard back from the January 8 audition?

emmmteee2015 - There are some kids still waiting to hear back from CCM from the December 4th audition - so don’t hold your breath! Hope your audition went well!

There have been people from the December 4th audition who have been accepted, and who have been rejected – those who haven’t heard yet are still in the running (unless there is an issue of something missing from the application process - transcripts, test scores, etc., which prevents a final decision.)

Thanks for the scoop MusTHCC! We had heard that there hadn’t yet been any acceptances from December - thanks for clarifying.

I talked to the school on Thursday of this week and the rejection list was sent out from the first two auditions and if we haven’t heard yet… then, we are more than likely no action or accepted! They said they will probably accept a very few number from the first 3 auditions and then place the rest in no action until after a few more auditions because it is so early in the process and they have many, many more kids to audition! She said the no action list typically runs at about 25 kids from the first 3 auditions.

FYI I know of one young man accepted to CCM. I believe he just found out the end of last week. I think he was there in December.

Has anyone heard either way about results from the January 15th audition? Do they also they email or call or do you just find out by the “check my status” on the website? Wish I could remember exactly what they said last week!

We think that they said they will notify on the “check my status” page next Friday, the 28th. I originally thought they meant last Friday, but since neither my D or another student we know heard anything, my D believes that they meant next Friday, which would make sense, since there was another round of auditions this weekend.

Good luck! And I’m pretty sure they said notification would be just on the status page, but I wouldn’t swear to it. (I guess I wasn’t doing a great job of listening, I was so excited to be there!)
