2010-2011 New Student Record

Does anyone know anything about the "New Student Record" solicitation that asks for a picture and interests of the student? You then buy the book for $29.00. They call it a campus tradition. Any information/advice?

Thank you for asking! I received the same thing today and don’t know anything about it either.

Me too - Perhaps a call to Elon will answer the question?

I think about 60% of freshmen did it last year. It was a fun way to have the names and faces of other students in front of you. It’s a pre yearbook of your class… Lots of this kind of stuff can be fun but no “need” to purchase. We did this but none of the send your kids move stuff or cookies for finals.

^^many colleges did this before the advent of Facebook; didn’t realize this company was still in business…

I remember what we called (horrifyingly!) a “pigbook” back in the dark ages. But I don’t remember money being involved.

I’ll ask my daughter if she wants to do it. It could be fun, and I guess colleges need all the income they can get these days, but I don’t particularly like being nickel and dimed!

Thanks for the info.

BLK: I didn’t think that when I saw this from UMich (a friend’s) a couple of years ago that the $$ went to the school; I think it goes to the publisher?..is this being done by Elon or by an outside vendor?

Big waste of money. Everyone I know didn’t do it.

Back in the day my college did this for free. S’s college does it for free. I don’t really see the need for it with Facebook. The envelope has been sitting on our counter for 2 weeks, I think the deadline was today so I may toss it.

We weren’t sure about this either. We didn’t do it because it’s just
another added expense.

This is from 2 years ago - Can anyone from last years freshman class chime in - Thanks!

My daughter just finished her freshman year at Elon. We did not purchase the book. She didn’t hear anything about it once she got to school and we never saw the book. I don’t see much value added in getting one.

Agreeing - we pitched it. I think FB has made this publication obsolete.

We did it-- it was fun to see ( sent to us before school year started. But I don’t think all that worthwhile. I think I remember counting up 60% of the class did it.
