2010 amc 12a

man, makes no sense. I get like 90s in math at school and i get 51 on this contest.

That’s because the AMC anything is harder than any math you find in school.

They should have AP abstract algebra, advanced linear algebra, and trigonometry classes. Now that would actually get us somewhere.

this is probably a really dumb question, but is university math like that AMC math? Like, I’m kinda scared that I do good in high school math, but terrible on contest math, and contest math is like “real math”.

can someone pm me the answer key?
thank you!

Hey, anyone want to PM me the answers? I took it today, questions with the frogs, sequence question with answers all in 8000’s, etc? Please? Haha, I’m dying to know.

That sequence question was really fun. It was nothing more than a system.

I’ll PM you the answers as soon as I get them. Or perhaps someone else could do it earlier, since I don’t get them until Friday.

I would love the answers too! Can someone PM them to me? It would be very helpful, thanks!

you guys, another random question. I wrote the AMC basically to put it on my app. (I’m Canadian, so I thought writing an American contest would “look good”). Will uni’s ask for my scores if I had this on my application/resume? Or should I try to hide such a dismal score?

Umm… tell you what, take the AMC 12B. It’s easier. Study a little, and you’re guaranteed to get a good score. Put that on your app instead. I’m sure most Canadian colleges won’t know the difference. ;)

The AMC would never really hurt you. I mean if you got a good score, it looks good obviously. If you got a bad score, it still shows that you tried to take it and made an attempt to do something good and challenging.

no…for US colleges lol. I’m going to the US for sure. And idk if they administer the AMC 12B at the school I wrote the 12A at.

And is the 12B always easier than A?

@tmanneopen: I agree with your thinking, I was thinking the same thing, but for top schools, seeing such a terrible score would be like a turn off, wouldn’t it? I’m not worried about schools like UT-Austin, but what about top ones?

since no one has responded thus far, I’d also like someone to please PM me the answers if they would.

thanks

12B and 12A are roughly the same. It’s chance as to which is “easier” (if at all)

added to my list of things to do. ;)

Well they understand that the math is difficult and not everyone that takes it moves on. I’m sure top schools will be fine. It’s better to show the effort than no effort at all.

Wait, guys, so AMC 10 and 12 got similar questions?

Because from everything I’ve skimmed on here so far, the frog/toad problem I saw today on the AMC 10a as well lol.

could u PM me the answers any1? i prlly got 100.5

Can I get a pm as well?

Would someone mind PMing the last page, as well as number 15? I know it’s a lot, but I had some weird moments as the test was winding down…

I had been confident about 16 questions (which ended up with me getting one wrong, more if the 5 or so people that I checked with after the test all messed up…) so then I left three blank and guessed on the rest…

somebody send me answer key?
