2010 Smithies!!

Hey girls!!! I just thought it would be nice to have a thread for those who are seriously considering to attend this fall. It'd be nice to get to know everyone a little bit beforehand... and potentially meet up during the weekend of April 21/22. Is anyone going to that?

Well, if anyone has aim, my sn is: sychrodestiny28

I'm going to open campus! It will be my first time visiting campus, so that's what my decision is pretty much resting on at this point!

I'm going to open campus too! I've been before and basically know that I'm going, but I want to get my sweatshirt ; ) Plus my mom has never been, so it'll be fun to take her. Mimeea, having been on campus, I think you'll love it... it's so New England-y pretty. What are your other top choices?

I'm 99.9999% sure I'm going to Smith next year. I've really fallen in love with it, and it would take a LOT to make me not go.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to open campus at well. We should have a CC hangout area. :)

Well, my other top choices at the moment are Mt. Holyoke (I got a 15k leadership award there!), as well as Wellesley. I will be visiting all three at their open campuses in late April. I'll also be visiting Grinnell, but I'm sure it won't be near the setting as New England. I'm taking my mom, as well, and we're both excited to be visiting for the first time! btw, she has now come to like women's colleges a lot more (the MHC award didn't hurt!).

oooo!!! we should have some sort of cc hang out area... it'd be so nice to finally see you all =D

All of the newly accepted students really need to attend open campus in April. Your feeling unassured is natural; but I believe a visit will cure all those ills. You need to experience Smith, to be surrounded by intelligent women just like yourselves, to walk the campus, to see the houses and dining options, and to talk to and meet some of the brightest profs in the country. Boys are important, and if you're straight, they probably will always be. They're also like busses; another one comes around every fifteen minutes. Relax. Go to Smith and enjoy yout time there. Enjoy being among some of the brightest, intense, caring women around. You'll be around many boys if you choose to attend sporting events, parties, or take classes at other colleges. It might be a little harder to find them, but they don't disappear from your sight for four years. Don't you think that Smith and MoHo are popular spots for the boys?

mmmm!

count me too!

i am seriously considering smith...but not sure....also thinking about university of chicago, bard, and reed. any advise?

VISIT! (I taught at UChicago; live near Reed; and my d. strongly considered Bard - she's a composer.) You will see the differences clearly if you visit.

Yeah, i definately agree. i visited smith and bard and fell in love with them both, but for very different reasons....bard has some of my favorite curators (i'm considering becoming an art history major) and one of the BEST contemporary art collections in the country. smith is in an amazing location...seriously, noho captures my bohemian essence; it is me in a town. and smith definately has superior financial resources...(what other school will pay you to have a world-class internship?) i'm visiting reed next week. and u of chicago the week after.

I'm going to smith...and pretty nervous x_x

Ah, don't be nervous, Eternal. Your undergraduate years will always have a special place in your heart. The whole experience is one of the most liberating, most intellectual, most exciting things a young adult can do. You'll love it!

I sent in my deposit yesterday. Before open campus, I was fairly sure...and now I feel very confident in my decision. Everything about Smith and Northampton seems so warm and organic. I brought my dad to open campus and he, too, remarked on the vibrancy of Smith. "Other colleges were beautiful too (we had visited Wellesley and UChicago as well)...but this one seems 'warm.'" I loved the students I met there, the classes I sat in on, and the vegan wraps they served at lunch. And more than anything, I see myself there.

doctordoctor, congratulations and welcome to Smith! It's all about "fit", and obviously, you found it in Smith. What a great school!

So, has everyone decided their housing arrangements?

Quad for my D!

It's Green Street for me!

My first choice is Green Street : ) Pretty, cozy houses, close to town and to all academic/ arts buildings, not party-hearty... I hope I end up there. Hubbard, Chapin, or Tyler would be awesome.

[I'm going to smith...and pretty nervous x_x]
I back up what momwaiting for new said, but I remember that I was worried sick too, for about every minute before coming to Smith. Well, worried and excited, really sad and ecstatic, I yo-yo'd most of the summer :-). It's totally normal. All that nervousness will melt away eventually, just hang in there for the next few months.
