2011 AP Human Geography Preparation Thread!

Hey, where are you guys getting these practice questions from?
Are you making them up?
I’d love to contribute.

B?

Which religion is the fastest growing of the world’s five primary religions?

A Christianity
B Islam
C Judaism
D Hinduism
E Buddhism

The answer to the central park question is C- festival landscape.

Islam is the fastest growing religion.

Gotta say A since it’s the most popular.

As a country becomes increasingly developed, economic activities become dominant in which sector?
(A) Primary
(B) Tertiary
(C) Non-basic
(D) Secondary
(E) Basic

^ Islam is correct. (I though A too)

^ B? Because those are service industries?

Which religion is the largest universalizing religion in the world today?
A Christianity
B Islam
C Buddhism
D Judaism
E Hinduism

^ A. So Christianity=largest universalizing religion, but Islam=fastest growing religion. I think the answer is Basic because basic means that the economy is growing due to outside trading.

^ A is correct.

Basic industries: industries that are the focal point of the economy for a city

According to acculturation, how many generations on average does it take for an immigrant family to lose its primary language?

A One Generation
B Two
C Three
D Four
E Never

^C.

lol10char

Which of the following contributed to rapid population growth in the 20th century?
A. World Wars
B. Public health measures
(This is similar to a question on a World History Exam)

B?

The establishment of maquiladoras by US corporations for the production of electronics components is an example of which of the following?
(A) Exploitation of union labor
(B) Industrialization
(C) New international division of labor
(D) Tertiary economic activity
(E) Colonialism

The answer to my question (post 259) was D, which surprised me as well, but I guess governments are pushing to preserve local culture. I thought African languages were becoming more extinct because of English becoming a more globalized language, but whatever.

By the way I am getting my Qs from Barrons.

Can someone answer this question?

As a country becomes increasingly developed, economic activities become dominant in which sector?

^Services

10char

@mrluggs can you post the question?

(A) Primary
(B) Tertiary
(C) Non-basic
(D) Secondary
(E) Basic

Those are the answer choices. Which category would services fall under?

Tertiary? Non-Basic?

The Quinary/Quaternary sectors. Mainly the Quinary sector, consisting of high-level decision making and Scientific research.

I don’t believe it is the tertiary, or services, sector because they are being outsourced to countries like Mexico through the use of things like Maquiladoras.

Regardless, if they were to give you quinary AND quaternary as a choice on the test, which one do you think would be the better answer? I am not completely sure on this one.

EDIT: Just saw your post. I’m thinking it would be the tertiary sector insofar as primary sector is involved with the harvest or extraction of raw material and the secondary is involved with industry and stuff like that. Since even the industry is being outsourced to countries like China, I think tertiary would be your best bet. Basic and Non-Basic I have never heard of and think they are there to throw you off.

Nevermind, it’s tertiary.

My reason for this was Basic, because Basic has to do with economic expansion, right? If a country becomes increasingly developed, doesn’t its economy expand?

I think that would be C

Which supranational organization was established to prevent the Heartland from spreading after World War II?

(A) European Union
(B) North American Free Trade Agreement
(C) Warsaw Pact
(D) North Atlantic Treaty Organization
(E) United Nations

This one’s pretty easy
How long are you guys staying up?

^D

The border between the US and Canada along the 49th parallel is a good example of what type of boundary?

A Subsequent
B Antecedent
C Superimposed
D Relic
E Demarcation
