2011 Going off their waitlist

Cooker says: Son of a friend got off waitlist at Dartmouth.

Is he an athlete? any special talent?

I know someone who got off of the wait list at Muhlenberg:

Dartmouth
James Madison University

SUNY Geneseo
TCU
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
UChicago
U Conn
U Miami
U of Minnesota

Happy to add Emory to the list!

My DS’ friend got off the wait list at Penn State (main campus) weeks ago.

From RPI thread, one student is off the waitlist as of April 27

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Columbia went to there waitlist. Friend was called. When did Emory start?

I think all the vaunted low acceptance rates that schools brag about need to have a big asterisk next to them if the school goes to a wait-list. Because all that means is that they didn’t accurately predict their yield and they under-admitted. I mean, big whoops, Harvard could have an admit rate of 1% and then pull much of its class from the waitlist. It’s meaningless without that caveat.

@emoryguy980 : Which college?

I am still waiting to hear from Emory, when did they start? Friend got called from the ivee Columbia

^^according to the Parents’ Forum, Emory started last week…

Pizzagirl- Agree! Two Ivies going to wait list before May 1- is that unusual? I think alot of colleges protected their yield this year by planning on going to wait lists. With the increase of applications and kids applying to 12-15 schools, they had a hard time predicting yield. I see posts of kids still deciding between several top schools and alot of it is coming down to the Fin Aid packages. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Good luck with emory. Which school at Columbia did your friend apply to?

Just to clarify the NU process - admitted students accept via email deposits so the postcard is somewhat irrelevant. Not sure why they split it like that.

Uh oh, hope my Chicago WL comes through.

post #28, pizzagirl, you are 100% correct.
So how will they adjust now the admission rates if they go the waitlist?

They don’t adjust admission rates. They just say “Oh we admitted 5% of the applicants” and even if all of those kids reject them, they can still boast a 5% acceptance rate.

My Daughter told me today that a classmate was admitted from the Tulane waitlist late last week.

Northeastern as per a post on 4/25 on the NEU board
