I got in as a transfer to McCombs for the Fall of 2011 and I'm going to the earliest orientation (June 23/24). Anyone have some input on what it's like/ways to make it go as smooth as possible? I'm also hearing stuff about getting some sort of ID...(not the UT EID, but something else)?

Also, newly admitted students post the dates for when you're going!

I have to wait until my fee waiver goes through. After, I have no clue. I have friends that went to freshmen orientation but say they have no idea if it’ll be the same for transfer as it was for them.

I also registered for the June 23/24 orientation, and also planned on staying on campus (in Jester, according to what I’ve been reading on the website). Were you all planning on staying in a dorm as well, or in a hotel nearby?

I might change my registration so I can stay in a hotel as well. I have a feeling one of my parents is going to want to come along, but I haven’t paid quite yet so I have a bit of time to decide. Regardless, hopefully all of us on CC will be able to meet up when we get there if we all go on the same day!

June 23/24 sounds good to me too. Who knows, I could run into a few of you guys. Also, I think the fee for 4 meals and housing overnight is very reasonable. I am only 60 miles away, but eh, it could be cool to stay in jester overnight. There is no way my parents will be interested in staying overnight, so it will just be me. =p

Another note about the orientation, it looks like it will be an excellent chance to meet with an advisor and sign up for fall classes before most people do. You know, so you can reserve your spot in the ones you really want in.

I live about just north of austin and i am thinking that i may upgrade to stay over night just so i do not have to deal with traffic in the mornings… just an FYI for those of you that do not live in austin the traffic here is scary so if you are getting a hotel pay the extra money and stay in downtown.

4shotlatte: Almost everyone is required to meet their advisor before picking their classes. It said that on the orientation page. So good news for us!

I will be at the June 23/24 orientation also. I live in Round Rock which is literally a couple minutes away from Austin so I will just commute back and forth for the two days.

Does anyone know if we are last (meaning transfers compared to current ut students) to register for classes? I am wondering if it is going to be hard to find spots in the classes that I need.

I signed up for the 23/24 orientation as well. I went ahead and paid for housing. Does anyone know what the schedule for things will be like? We might come across each other and not even know it. lol

I also got my acceptance on paper in the mail today. Now that it’s official that I got in, I don’t need to worry about my acceptance being an accident!

Yea, I live about 60 miles away too (maybe we’re neighbors), but when you calculate gas costs and take into account that you would be spending money on food no matter where you’re staying, then the 45 dollars really does look reasonable, plus I want to familiarize myself with the campus the best I can.

Today I upgraded my UTeid, got my student ID card, set up an ETF account, paid my enrollment deposit, signed up for registration, and got to see the actual university itself for the first time. Very busy and exhausting, yet exciting.

I went to the Flawn Academic Center, which is right in the heart of the campus. On the first floor there is an IT services division and within that is the ID center, but don’t worry, it’s not difficult to spot.

I had to upgrade my EID in order to set up an EFT (sorry, didn’t mean to type ETF) which is simply a direct link between UT-Austin and my bank. It stands for Electronic Funds Transfer Account. So now, if I want to pay for something at UT-Austin, all I have to do is give an authorization and they can pull the money straight from my account instead of having to use a credit/debit card.

Anyways, while I was there, the kid working the computer said they were going to go ahead and give me my student ID, which I was definitely not prepared for and ended up getting the worst photo ID of my life, but that’s besides the point.

To make a long story short, all you have to do if you want a student ID is go the ID center in the Flawn Academic Center.

I’m so excited! I’m planning to go on the 23-24th as well. It sounds like I will have to miss my Thursday class that week, but it’s worth it. I live in South Austin right now but my husband and I are planning to buy a house or condo near the campus when our lease is up in September.
