Who's going and on what date? I planned on going 6/14, but my summer class is overwhelming me atm. I'm thinking about switching to 6/28 if UT/McCombs lets me.

Orientation dates:
6/14
6/28
-Theres also one in August.

I’m going in August 18th.

I’m OOS thats why. I can just fly in, attend orientation, and then check into my dorm like a couple days later.

If i attended an earlier date, then i would have had to fly in twice. Once for orientation and another time to check into the dorm.

August seems like the perfect time for me as well, but I want to get this done and not risk the classes filling up/bad timings. I’m sure you’ll be fine though. Its a 4 hour drive for me, so its do-able. I’m curious to when majority of the transfers are going to go.

I would go to the earliest one if I was accepted already! I like picking/getting good profs/classes and not having to worry about bad ones. :/

I’m scheduled to go 6/14, i think ill leave on the 13th and tour apartments.

I’ve scheduled to go 6/14 too. Having trouble booking hotel thou.

I’m going on 6/14.

We should create a secret handshake so we can know who at orientation seeks/shares advice on these forums.

I’m going on 6/14, handshake sounds fun. Any engineering students coming?

rP242 ARE THEIR NO HOTELS AVAILABLE?

I’m going the 14th. But I will be down there the whole weekend to see old friends. Hopefully Monday isn’t too hot or rainy.

Anybody go on 28th? At the time I registered, 14th was no longer available. I hope I can make some friends!

I switched mine to the 28th. Regretting it now since so many people are going on the 14th, but really didn’t have a choice.

@ghff- I’ll be there.

@Xcellerator- Do you know of any transfer students that didn’t get the classes or professors they wanted? If anybody else knows about how fast classes/preferred professors fill up, please feel free to give your input. Getting worried intermediate accounting, BA 101, Marketing, etc will get full by the time the second orientation comes around.

The lady on the phone told me that thousands of people already registered because of re-enrollement + the freshmen are going to register this week + the students attending 6/14 transfer orientations. So there may be a risk going on the 28th, but then again, the people on the phone at UT, majority of the time, sound pessimistic and unfriendly IMO.

Denu - when I transferred this spring I couldn’t register until the week before classes started, and at first I didn’t get what/who I wanted, but I watched the classes I wanted in to for openings and was able to get in before the semester actually started. An unfortunate reality - people have payment issues of one type or another, and they get dropped, which sucks for them but is great for us transfers. Also, during add/drops some students get dropped for not having pre-reqs met or finding out their previous semester grades (because they registered before the semester was over) - when they don’t pass or earn the required grades for their next sequence course they have to shift their schedules around and it again creates openings for transfers/freshman.

For all other transfers: there will be a lot to do during orientation, and you will meet people, but if you want to meet more and get advice specifically for transferring I highly recommend the UTransition meeting - bonus is free tutoring hours at UTLC that I strongly urge everyone to take advantage of as you get your bearings.

Also, I’m on campus this summer, as I’m sure other board members are (who might be transfers to boot), so if anyone wants to try to arrange a meet-up let us know and we can share our “lessons learned” or just network.

Is transfer orientation the same as fall orientation? If I’m going to fall orientation but I’m in-state and not a transfer, do I get preference over transfers/ internationals/ oos?

@Sundol- Sounds risky, but gives me some hope if classes get full. As for UTransition, I’ll call them tomorrow and ask questions. If I have any other questions, I’ll PM you. During the semester, I’m pretty sure we can all meet up. We’ll arrange it in the future. Thanks.

Btw, include what school your going to (McCombs, LA, etc.) after including your orientation date. I think majority of the orientation will be spent at your college of choice.

bumppppppp

I’m going the 28th-College of Liberal Arts. :)

I can’t wait until orientation tomorrow! Is anyone else going? I’ll be receiving advising as an EE major.

7/5 is when my orientation is, does anyone else have the same?
