2011 SAT March: Writing

Yeah I put no change for the colon one

Does anyone remember what 27 and 29 were about?

K so, for my essay, I wrote about Death of a Salesman, Catcher in the Rye (2 Books we’ve read this year) and Survivor, because I don’t watch reality TV and I couldn’t think of good historical examples or other literary examples.

Also one question was bugging me for like half the test. The one about Buchi Ebenema or something’s novel. Was it The Novels of Buchi Blahblah, a native of Nigeria were praised or was it A native of Nigeria, Buchi’s Novels were praised? I had the “A Native of” first and then I changed it to the The Novels of…so unsure.

I got a nearly perfect grammar score last time, so I think I got 2 questions wrong this time. If you had a question that said:

A native of nigeria, this person’s novels were blahblahblah

would the “a native of nigeria” be modifying the person, or the person’s novels? I thought it was the novels, so I didn’t pick that one because it didn’t make sense. But now I’m thinking it was modifying the person and was the right choice after all.

P.S. I never would have thought that I would write about Snooki in an SAT essay.

that essay was so stupid lol i used… scarlet letter, american idol, and slumdog millionaire. i bullcrapped, but i filled both pages so hopefully i get at least a 10 haha

I put The novels of (person), a native blah blah blah…

what was the error in the lawrence of arabia question

LoL, Nerdherd and I are on the same train of thought…NIGERIA HALP MEH.

Lawrence of Arabia was no error…

Lawrence of Arabia and organic plants respectively.

what did u guys get regarding the sentence that’s something like “…phenomenon:sand covers” i got A

I never thought the Kardashians would play a role in my SAT essay, but I wrote how the Kardashians create the impression that one can be rewarded financially for doing nothing, whereas some of the most successful Americans came to this country with nothing and only saw results after years of hard work.

I thought the segment after the colon didn’t qualify as a full sentence so I picked the choice that had that in it.

what was the pluto one. it talked about scientists discovering pluto and it being a dward planet now.

yes it should be a cuz the rest made it more awkward

Was the section liliuokalani composed on the themes of experimental???

Did anyone not have that question?

i freaked out because i kept getting no errors until the end :(

@MIT, liliuokalani is experimental, I had experimental CR and I didn’t come across that question.

@Nerd, That would be modifying the woman, not the novels, so the woman’s name should be as close to the phrase as possible.

I’m having second thoughts on my essay. darnit. I think I was a bit vague

You know, I took the SAT today, and the temptation to lurk in this thread and see how my answers compare to others’ is looming over me. However, I think I’ll stay out just because it will only upset me when a question I got wrong comes up. Until I get my scores, I think I’ll just try to forget about it, even though I felt pretty good about the test overall. The essay was the suckiest part, since I couldn’t think of any good examples.

Best example for beneficial was the Biggest Loser- it motivates others to also lose weight and boost self esteem
