Now that the 2010 transfer season is pretty much over for most people, let's talk about us people who want to transfer this upcoming year!

Basically;

Where do you want to transfer to

Why you want to transfer (both the pull factors from transfer goals and push factors from the home school, so like size of school, academic opportunities, social scene, student life, etc)

Desired major/goals (med, law, grad school and such)

What do you think your chances are (and some stats if you're comfortable)

Northeastern University. UMass Amherst is the safety.

I’m interested in the co-op opportunities. I enjoyed my visit on the campus. It’s surrounded by an urban environment, but at the same time, is enclosed in its own unique area.

Philosophy. Minor in computer science. Either law or grad school very likely.

I think my chances are pretty good. Currently, I have a 3.8 GPA with 37 community college credits. I hope to get a recommendation from my Intro to Logic professor, and of course, put together a solid essay.

I’m applying all over the place:
Miami University, Vanderbilt University, Tufts Cornell University, Penn State, OSU, Brown, Kenyon College, and Case Western Reserve University. Loads if options because my final decision cones down to FA.

I have a 4.0 but this spring semester was my first so I don’t know if that’s really an accurate indicator for weighing my chances. But I’m mapping out my schedule to make sure it’ll look as good as possible on paper. When my profs are surprised at my courseload and my grades, I think it’s working. And I’m gonna retake my ACT this September.

I’m a chemistry major and I want to go to med school. Plus, i’d like to minor in English.

I go to a community college, so I have to transfer. I prefer something relatively close to home, but I’m not eliminating options yet because of distance

University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign

I’ve always wanted to attend to this university, just because of how good their engineering program is, and also the social life is suppose to be superb.

My goal is to graduate with a degree from UIUC with an engineering degree (not sure specifically)…

I would provide stats…however I have no clue what the transfer rates are to get into the engineering program…I heard they’re pretty low, a number would be nice!

Right now, I think my chance to get into this school is 50/50, as long as I can get awesome grades my first year at Univ of Illinois - Chicago, and write great essays, I think I have shot.

Plus the admissions officers give priority of evaluating transfer applicant that got rejected the first time AND who attend a different branch of the U of I system.

I am in that scenario, so the responsibility is all up to me!

Woot! First post on here. My brother piqued my interest on here when he was doing research on transferring, so I figured I could do the same and get some superb advice.

Right now, I have a BUNCH of schools up for consideration, but some of the top ones are : Wisconsin-Madison, Furman, Sewanee, Richmond, Villanova, Syracuse, USC, UCLA, UCSD and maybe Pitt.
Like the above poster, I am at a community college, so I have to transfer to continue my education. I really just cannot wait to get out of South Orange County, although I know a lot of people would die to live here.
I’m studying Accounting right now, so I’m definitely going to be majoring in that. I might add a second Finance major. Once I get out of school, I want to obviously work in Public Accounting, I also want to work in a Magazine Publisher, since I really like to write.
Well, all the schools I’m interested in are pretty selective so I don’t know what my chances are, I can only do the best of my abilities. I have almost 50 semester units now and I’ve managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA. My High School GPA was pretty abhorrent, but after years of working and feel like I’m being looked down on, I decided to go back to school and could say I’m doing way better than I was expecting, which is a nice plus.

New College of Florida in Sarasota

Currently attending a 2 year CC, so I would have to transfer to another school to get my B.A.

PhD in English

Medium to High, suppose, since I’ll have my A.A.

– I will be applying to University of Maryland – College Park, Howard University, American University, George Washington University, and George Mason University.

– I’m currently at a community college and would like to start at a University as soon as possible. I never took the ACT or SAT and really had no desire to continue my education out of high school. In growing older, and gaining a better understanding on independence I have come to the conclusion that a degree is what I need to get to where I want to go. I also want to move to the Washington, DC area (if you couldn’t tell by the schools I’m applying to). Hopefully I will be accepted to one of them!!

– I want to attend one of the Business Schools at the aforementioned schools. My major will be Accounting and I want to become a CPA. I will also be minoring in Spanish and would like to do some studying abroad.

– I’m hopeful that I have a good chance in being accepted to all the schools, I think it’s going to really come down to how I present myself through my application packet. I currently hold a 3.8 and plan on pulling that up with summer and fall semester courses. I will have 37 credits upon transferring. I’m an active member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and I work full-time during the day. I don’t have many ECs, but I’m hoping that the schools will consider my work experience in their decisions. Being an independent, non-traditional student doesn’t always allow for much ECs.

Wishing everyone the best in their endeavors and hope to hear of which schools we were all accepted to!

UCI, only UCI (everything is here for me)

Everything is here for me. Irvine is a city that I love (safety, relaxed atmosphere, classy, etc.), my Church is here, my MMA training is here (I pursue this along with academics), I can save money for Dental School, and UCI is a heck of a chill campus with great people and professors

Social Ecology (Psychology & Social Behavior). With completion of Dental School pre-reqs, my ultimate goal is to get into Loma Linda University (primary) or UCLA (secondary)

Social Ecology and Psychology are two very easy fields to get accepted in. As a former trash student, I went from Academic Probation to Dean’s List. I would say my chances are good because I still have two semesters to heftily raise my GPA

If anyone else is transferring to UCI, feel free to collaborate with me! This is cliche, but I wish everyone the best! Work hard :)

Columbia was my dream since I was a child and have always wanted to attend. I recently have grown attracted to Yale as well and its vast array of resources.
desired majors - biology or biochem
my chances are probably low as for everyone that applies. But still I will regret if i dont even try.
SAT (will retake): 2110 (superscored)
High School GPA: 95.3/100
Extra Curriculars : not much, just volunteering, but will be more involved when I attend stony this fall.

I plan to apply to Stanford, Harvard, Wash U in St. Louis, and Middlebury (maybe Pomona).

These schools in general have better academics and teaching standards. However, the greatest reason I am transferring is that the students at my current school don’t have the same drive to learn as the schools I am applying to (as a general blanket statement).

My major is Physics with Pre-Med.

I don’t really expect to get into Stanford or Harvard but worth a try right? Middlebury will be very difficult also, Wash U will be difficult to get into but much more reasonable than Stanford or Harvard. I would love to get into any of these schools.

I feel the same way as you about UCI, there is no other school out there for me. I started cc this summer and am currently taking 10 units, in the fall I will be taking 18 units, spring of 2011 taking 23 units and summer of 2011 10 units. I am also participating in a mentoring program with UC Berkeley and also take dance classes outside of college, in the choir at my cc, and volunteer at the local library, so far grades are looking positive, I really hope they accept me.

I want to double major in political science and dance

how about you?

But I also plan to apply to UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, USC, NYU, and UCSB

Not sure at all about where I want to transfer so I am still looking. I love Yale but my chances are slim there. I’ll probably try anyways.
Currently at a community college and I exhausted all the chemistry classes which is also my major so there is no point in me staying. I also don’t like the place. People could care less about school, there is no intellectual environment, and some professors just don’t feel like teaching.
As I said, my major is chemistry. I want to get into a combined BS/MS program and then go on to med school.
Since I’m not yet sure on where exactly I’ll be applying I can’t really chance myself.

Where do you want to transfer to
USC as a junior.

Why you want to transfer (both the pull factors from transfer goals and push factors from the home school, so like size of school, academic opportunities, social scene, student life, etc)
I want to go to a school that is both more academically and athletically prestigious that will open up more professional opportunities whilst still being able to enjoy the benefits of college life.

Desired major/goals (med, law, grad school and such)
Business Adm. (finance focused) at marshall

What do you think your chances are (and some stats if you’re comfortable)
Probably about 50% for now. My GPA is 3.8, will try and raise it to 3.85 at least, and I’m taking an internship this summer. Did some community service last semester as well as played some intramural sports. Hopefully next semester I can continue in those activities as well as join some other clubs that I am interested in.

Applying as spring '11 transfer to Amherst and Cornell. Both schools have very low transfer acceptance rates (in Cornell’s case I’m applying to Arts & Sciences) so I won’t make any guess as to my chances. Political Science major, 3.9 GPA, shooting for law school. I’d prefer more of a ‘community’ type school as opposed to giant, impersonal public.

Where you want to transfer to: I’m pretty set on transferring to Pepperdine – my first choice in high school – but I’m also considering USC, UCLA, UCSB (safety with that 2.4 gpa requirement, ha ha!), and possibly the University of London Royal Holloway or King’s College in London. It’s either California or bust!

Why you want to transfer: Well, I just graduated high school (I went to a competitive middle college high school in CA, which means I went to high school / community college con-currently) while also completing my 60 units and Social Science AA to transfer to a 4-year university. That makes me really happy, because I’ll be a junior at 18. :]

Desired major/goals (med, law, grad school and such): I want my BA in Communications with a possible double major / minor in Sociology, as well as my Master’s.

What do you think your chances are: I think I have a pretty solid chance at all of the schools I’m looking into, with UCLA being my greatest reach. I don’t know, what do you guys think? I did fairly well in high school (3.8 gpa, Honors, 1790 SAT, 27 ACT, good EC’s, NHS President) and I’ve done well at my CC as well: 3.8 UC GPA (those 2 B’s make me sad to this day), pre-reqs completed for all of the schools I’m applying to, TAG agreements, Intern for the Political Campaign Office / Governor, substantial job on campus, Associated Student Government Officer of Marketing & Information, Newspaper Editor-in-Chief, lots of volunteer stuff. I’m pretty nervous about that 3.8 gpa, I’m anticipating that I will bring it up to at least a 3.9 if I get A’s the next semester, but I’m hoping that my EC’s will balance the low-ish gpa. A lot of kids at my CC end up going to UCLA.

-Like some other posts in this thread, I’m also applying all over the place. So far, I’m applying to Hampshire college, Loyola University New Orleans, University of Washington (In state student, per parent’s request) and my reach/dream school is Brown. I’m also interested in Rhodes college, but I want to do more research before I add it to the list.

I’m a community college student who’s now taking a gap year to pursue several opportunities that I wouldn’t have gotten had I transferred to the University of New Orleans, which was my original plan. I want to transfer after this year so I can finish up my degree, but also contribute what I have learned through my experiences, both professional and not, to the school I’m attending.

My desired major is Film and Finance/Economics

My stats:

3.93 GPA

First Honors Program graduate at CC

Employed as a lifeguard/swim instructor at a YMCA since June 2008

Intern at a PR Firm and at small film production company

Member of a Professional Fire Troupe (Fire breathing, Poi Spinning, etc…)

Volunteer at Pirate Re-enactment events

1st generation college student (parents received 2-year degrees, but not B.A.s)

-Nyu Stern, Columbia, Cornell, UPenn (wharton) or Carnegie Mellon (tepper)
-single-sex college, low on prestige and international recognition, absence of business-oriented courses
-Grad School: Masters/Doctoral in economics
-not so sure especially after my freshmen application experience.

UCLA, UCI as my back-up

I want to stay in LA or near LA and attend a University that has national recognition and is affordable.

Anthropology, minor in Film.

Good chance!

-want to transfer to Yale, Columbia, UPenn, Duke, Cornell, Brown, Northwestern, Vanderbilt
-Yale is my dream school…but transfer acceptance rates are so low
-I currently go to a top public university
-want to go to medical school
-not sure about my chances, but I’m hoping for the best!

Can I post my stats here to seek more recommendations about where to transfer to and how good do i have a shot? Or should i put up a new thread?
