Transfer Prospects

Hello. I'm a Massachusetts CC student looking to transfer into a four year school for Spring 2011. I looked at Northeastern's transfer student profile, and the average GPA is 3.3. Seeing as my current GPA is 3.75, and I'd be getting an associates (liberal arts) degree, should I feel comfortable in getting into Northeastern? I'm going to visit it soon, and if I really like it, I don't want to get my hopes up by expecting to get in. Are there any NEU transfer students out there who can share their experiences? Thanks!

Hi there, I just got accepted as a transfer and will probably be attending this fall. Your GPA is strong but you can never be too confident when it comes to the college admission process (haha, a lesson learned the hard way and reason as to why I have to transfer now…) Are you applying for admission for this fall? If you had posted this a couple of months earlier, you could’ve taken advantage of Transfer Decision Days, which is in opportunity to sit down with an admissions counselor and they will give you a decision on the spot. It sounds nervewracking, but I think it’s a great way to let Northeastern know you REALLY want to attend their school. Send me a PM if you want to know more about transfer decision day.

Needless to say, my “interview” went superb. She offered me a handshake and congratulated me not even 10 minutes after I had walked into the room. I have a 2.9 GPA (shudder) but am part of the honors program at my college, 1920 SATs, 3.8 high school GPA and work at a bone marrow donor center.

Thanks for your post and congrats on getting in.

I’ll be applying for Spring '11. Northeastern is the only school I’ll actually be applying to. The other schools (any Mass. public school and Roger Williams) all have articulation agreements with my community college for AA degrees, so I need not even apply to those. I’m a little concerned with what to put in my transfer essay. My GPA is strong but that could be neutralized by a questionable essay. Any ideas on that end, anybody?

A topic that is very unique, personal and specific to you. Funny enough…I just gave you a very general and vague response.

For my BU essay, I wrote about how I opened and fixed my friend’s iPod with a guitar pick because my screwdriver broke. Then I continued to talk about how my interests in technology and health science.

I was am a transfer student and got accepted and offered a $5,000 Northeastern Achievement Award. My college GPA is 3.8. My high school GPA was only a 3.0 but I go to the top public school in Massachusetts and NEU knows the school. (We are 2 stops down on the green line). I also attended the one day immediate response transfer day. If you are going to apply for next year you should look into this option.

Might not be a bad idea, I just don’t want be sitting around for a semester doing nothing. I’ll be finishing CC in the fall. Fortunately they won’t be taking my high school GPA into consideration because I’ll have more than enough college credits, haha. I’m shooting for a 3.8-3.9.
