im mostly worried about not having finished 2nd semester ochem, 1 year calc based physics, and stats. What I’ve done so far are the minimum major pre-reqs and I know there is a lot of people out there who finished all the pre-reqs with a very competitive gpa…

Major: Psychology, Human Development (UC Davis)
College American River college in sacramento
UC GPA: 3.84 (upward trend, non-stop 4.0 semesters since fall of 2008)

Fall 2007 - 3.50
Spring 2008 - 3.50
Fall 2008 - 4.00
Spring 2009 - 4.00
Summer 2009- 4.00
Fall 2009- 4.00
Spring 2010 - 4.00
Fall 2010 - 4.00

Major GPA: 4.00
Applying to: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis
Prereqs: All but one which will be done by the spring of 11’ for Davis and Berkeley. Done for UCLA.
IGETC: Done
TAG/TAP: UC Davis TAG

Im having a case of transfer anxiety

I’ve noticed that some of you guys have posted GPA and major GPA. Do they check the major gpa and overall gpa separately?

in a way they do especially for berkeley and ucla

Yes, the GPA for your major prereqs can play a role.

@Ella89 No I do not have TAP. However, I talked to both UCLA and UCI Admissions Administrator and both said that I have a pretty good chance of getting admitted. The UCLA Admission Administrator said that as long as I fulfill my major prerequisites, I’m admitted as long as I above a 3.5 G.P.A. He also mentioned that GPA does not really matter because there are people who apply with a 4.0 GPA with a lot of ECs and a nice personal statement, but if they do not complete one prerequisite then they have to turn them over.

huh? i find it hard to believe anyone is a shoe-in with a 3.5 and no TAP for UCLA Psychology, which is probably one of the three most impacted majors. Avg admitted GPA was 3.78 last year.

@leehana10, in terms of pre-requisites, you have to be done with them by the spring prior you start. (For example if you are applying for fall 11, have the pre-reqs done by spring 11. )

@leehana10, I have a feeling that the average GPA for psych transfers for fall 11 will be around a 3.83-3.85

While you do have until the Spring immediately before transfer to complete prerequisites, for competitive majors you should have as many as possible done by the previous fall.

Ideally adcoms see strong grades in your prerequisites–if you’re not in a hard science, math, engineering, etc, and you can’t get a 4.0 among courses in your major of choice, you may be in the wrong major.

will you guys pleace chance me! i would greatly appreciate it :)

stats:
major: math/econ
gpa: 3.62
igetc: completed in fall
prereqs: taking calc 3 and lin algebra now, missing differentials
tap: no
ec’s: listed quite a few, nothing special, alot of work experience, volunteering etc.
essay: don’t know, worked hard on it though

I’m really nervous, feel like that missing prereq is gonna be the end of my chances

Does ur major GPA really matter? cuz i see everyone putting up their GPA in their major, but i dont recall that being a factor for UCLA. i thought it was just if you finished most or all of ur pre-reqs for ur major, and then ur OVERALL GPA?
Because some majors have more or less pre-reqs than others, so why would major GPA matter much? What about for non-impaceted majors? would major GPA matter much for non-impacted majors? cuz id imagine major GPA would probably only matter for IMPACTED majors.

@ UCeric2010: Welcome to the club!! Lol. jk. There’s no club… not yet. Wait, what happened at UCSD? If I don’t get into UCLA, I am definitely going to SD.

@ njeronimo: the min gpa for UCLA TAP depends on your CC. For my college, the min gpa is 3.1 to qualify for TAP. There are other colleges where the min gpa is only 3.0 and some have 3.3 as min. So I guess I got lucky by .05.

How did most of you figure out the pre-reqs…assist.org?

The wait is killin me :/

@ ideal

yup, assist has everything you need in planning your pre-reqs. That and IGETC will pretty much guide you the whole way

Itzcaroll, but the minimum gpa for non-tap students is a 3.2 right?

harophillip, When I spoke to a UCLA represenative that visited my community college she informed me that they do look at your major GPA, as it’s a likely indicator of how a student might do in their upper division, major related classes.

@Pinoiako916: I can’t see you having any issues getting into anywhere with your stats, but then I am going stir-crazy over my own, so who the hell knows?

Major: Global Studies
GPA 4.0
TAP: Yes
IGETC: Yes
Major Reqs: Completed

I look pretty good on paper, but I am freaking out about some of the stories on CC about folks being turned down for who knows what reason…also, the average GPA for the program lat year was 3.92, so it is not as if a 4.0 is all that spectacular, you know what I mean?

Major: Philosophy
UC GPA -3.33
TAP Certified
IGETC Completed

Hoping TAP will push me over the top

@uclaglobal, global studies is one of the most impacted majors in UCLA, more impacted than psychology, sociology, and political science.
