2011 UCLA Transfers: The Central Thread for Discussion and Decisions

@DavetheAmazing:

No problem. I am no admissions officer, but from my uncertain speculation, that seems like it could be an indication of good news! :)

College Confidential is literally the only place where I encounter people who are apparently just as concerned about the UC admissions as I am. My family and friends totally don’t get how almost all I think about now is UC acceptance/rejection. They think I’m being OCD about this whole thing.

@DavetheAmazing:
Yes, you need to be accepted by both. Last year my friend got in to the college but not the film school, so she couldn’t go. Good job getting in to the TFT program. They only accept around 15 students a year as transfers. You must be an amazing artist, whatever media you dabble in.

Thanks, but I suppose it won’t be worth that much of the main university doesn’t accept me!

How stressful!

DAVE, congrats! I heard it’s very tough to get into the film school. Admission to the college is likely easier than admission to the film school. I think you are in.

@Pinoiako if you go on MyUCLA, on the top left corner, you’ll see webmail :)

Decisions next week? Ugh.

Berkeley and UCLA on the same week? Talk about dramatic.

Re: myucla and email address… it doesn’t mean anything. I wasn’t able to access myucla until I looked at summer courses at “find a class to enroll”. I did not click on an intent to register for summer or anything like that… I just perused some of the courses. Then the next time I tried myucla, I was able to log on. When I logged into ursa, it prompted me to create a ucla email. Now on myucla, unfortunately it says “summer sessions student” underneath my name, although it was blank for a while before that. So those items are just a glitch in the system. Those that can see myucla and create an email likely browsed something regarding summer session.

This is worse than what the freshman had to go through this year in terms of decisions coming out.

Did any of you guys apply to any private schools? I applied to Duke and USC and they both come after the UC decisions.

blackmamba8- when does Duke and USC come out with transfer decisions? Isnt USC harder to get into than UCLA and Berkeley?

i dont know if this is a good sign or somehitng, but i can access my bruin account and ,when i logged into to myucla, on the top right, under my name, my major is specified.
soem days ago, i had accidentally registered for summer session and next time i logged in the prompt was shown asking to create an email.

Pinoiako: Duke does it halfway through May and USC releases their decision in June. I’ve heard that about USC but some people say it’s easier. It’s tough either way so like my friend said, “earn the highest gpa so you can relax throughout the process.”

I have a question to pose to you guys…Would I be crazy for picking uci (psych) over ucla?
I know UCLA is top 5 nationally for psych, but I feel like I may have less competition and more opportunity at uci. This may be a fallacy but I also somehow think that uci would be “easier” to get a better gpa at. I intend to apply to grad school, so does a lower gpa from a better school look better or vice versa? I am so strongly attached to UCLA and I did tap to get in and applied to uci as an afterthought, didn’t even complete 4-5 prereqs. Now I am thinking about my options and it is really bothering me. I just don’t know (assuming I get in) that I could give up the prestige and brand name of “ucla” for uci. Any thoughts or input are greatly appreciated. Just realized all of this and my head is spinning…

@Pinoiako916
I think it depends on the major. I heard the film major are hard! But in general, I believe they are easier to get in although they are higher in ranking. Some people I know from my country who could barely talk to people in Enlgish and did not do that well in class got in…

I mean USC, not Duke

Duke has around a 9% transfer rate while USC has around a 26% transfer admit rate.

mitchapalooza- so USC is like transferring to UCLA or Berkeley?

@Cactus, I’m thinking the same thing!!! I almost put up a post yesterday about wanting to go to UCSB over UCLA (and I want to go to law school). I love LA, I wouldn’t of ever wanted to grow up anywhere else but I despise the Westside (with the exception of Venice) and I don’t really want to live over there with my children. I live in Pasadena now and I love my neighborhood and I think UCSB would be a better place for my family.

This is what you should take into consideration that I didn’t think of UNTIL someone posted it in the UCSB forum: UCLA actually has higher GPAs than UCI, even though it may APPEAR easier it seems that UCLA fosters a higher GPA so at the end of the day it all depends on where you would be happiest…
