Got my acceptance letter a couple of weeks ago, and was really happy and relieved to get it! Especially since Rose was the first school I've heard back from. Anyone else hear back from Rose yet? Anybody set on attending? I've got a bunch of other applications out and I have to see how financial aid goes, but Rose is definitely near the top of my list.

Congratulations Estan!
Does the decision come by snail mail or email?
My son has applied but his application was not complete until a couple of days ago, so hopefully he will hear around November 15.

Snail mail. We should be able to get him into the November 15th round.

do you mind posting any relevant stats? Did you include a personal statement?

@RHITAdmissions I’m actually curious as to how much a personal statement, if included, would be weighted in the application. I have an essay previously used for GATech about a unique experience and I was wondering if it wouldn’t hurt to copy/paste that into the app along with my subject test scores.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it.

Um I wasn’t planning on it, but if you want my stats…

ACT: 36
GPA: 4.0 UW, 5.3 W
1/300 class rank
Bunch of ECs…President and state champion mathlete and president of NHS, captain of soccer team

And I did write a personal statement…I sort of re-used my essay from UW-Madison, but rewrote it a little for Rose-Hulman. I would write one, seeing as it can’t hurt you and it shows that you put more effort into the application than some other people who didn’t write it.

How can you get a GPA of 5.3? 6 for AP courses?

I think estan meant 4.3

estan736: congrats on your acceptance! Just looking at your stats you’re sure to have lots of options for where you want to go.

For what it’s worth: I’m a junior EE at Rose right now. As college decision season heats up I’ll be checking on here for any questions people have about Rose that I can answer from a student’s perspective. If anyone has any questions please ask! (or feel free to PM me)

In our GPA system, we get a 0.01 multiplier for each honors/AP course we take. So I’ve taken around 20 or so of those courses, and get a .2 multiplier added on to my UW GPA.

@Tharsis A personal statement will be less than 5% of the admission decision. We do enjoy the opportunity to get to know our applicants better; however, a personal statement will not supercede other factors in our decision.

@RHITAdmissions

thanks for the response. Also, if i choose to upload a pdf of an essay, does the 2500 character limit still apply? I have an essay about a hypothetical conversation with Wernher von Braun which currently stands at about 3000.

@Tharsis

Just email it to us: admissions@rose-hulman.edu. We’ll print it off and add it to your file.

cool, thanks for the help.

My son’s acceptance came in the mail today! Happy day in our house! Thanks RHIT!

I got mine today!

I got my acceptance too~~~!!

Glad to hear acceptance letters are starting to arrive. Really excited about the quality of applicants this year and what they will be able to do once they’re working together on projects here.

I have also been accepted - providing I take physics, calc, and chem before next fall. My other major hurdle is the financial aid, and supporting my family. I have used the fin. aid calculator, and I am in the ball park of needing about 12k in scholarships. Do most students receive a merit scholarship?

@RHIT when will the next round of decisions be mailed out? My application was complete last week.
I’m really excited =D

@sparky20: about 80-85% receive a merit scholarship from us.

@MechEm: we’re trying to get an extra round out tomorrow before the Thanksgiving break and then will have the normal round going out around Dec 15th. Feel free to call me and I can check on your decision status.
