2012 March ACT Discussion

Unexpected? How so?

Sent from my HTC Glacier using CC

For all those that have taken both the Act and Sat… which is easier overall?
i hear such mixed reviews…i went in and just sat for ACT and got 28 with out any prep …
do u recommend focusing on this exam??

i would need to get a 33 for the schools i am looking at…took SAT with a lot a lot of prep and got 1370…
what to do?

Anyone know when scores officially come out? It’s been two weeks…

@baegopa, I’ve been wondering the same thing.

Also, perhaps it’s a dumb question, but will the scores be posted online on the ACT student accounts? The only reason I ask is it’s been two weeks and the only test date that’s showing up in my account is the October test.

I’m just wondering if one day it’ll magically just pop up in my account, or if we have to wait for our school to give us the printed-out scores during the school day.

Teachers should have the scores now, so if a teacher is willing they can give you it. I just found out I got a 30 and am a little disappointed. And I’m not sure how much I can improve because that is pretty much what I got on my practice tests too.

My brother took it and got a 35 so now we both have the same score!

I first made a 23 on the ACT as a sophomore. I didn’t practice really at all, so I dont think I can count that. Then the next time I made a 24 (Junior Year). Didn’t really practice much either besides at school with a few practice stuff teachers offered me. Then I took it again and sadly made a 24, no studying at all. Then I took it one more time and made a 25. All four times I took it I didn’t really have or consider much time to practice for it. Now I have signed up for the April 14th one. I, for the first time, bought two practice books. Those are the following:

 1. Barron’s ACT 36 2nd Edition
 2. The Real ACT Prep Guide 3rd Edition

I am exceptionally decent at English and Math, but not so good at Reading and Science, similar to many people. The highest I have made on each section: English 30, Math 27, Science 26, Reading 23.
I have already read the English section in Barron’s ACT 36, just basically to review myself. Now tomorrow I will read the Math section in Barron’s while working some of those difficult practice problems… but more importantly to get their notes about combinations, permutations, geometry, etc.
After mastering English and Math the best way I know how, I will take a couple of practice tests out of The Real ACT Prep Guide. Then I will review any mistakes that I had. Then I will look over Reading and Science on Barron’s, but I know there is not a whole lot of strategy for those two sections, it’s basically just time management and comprehension of the passages and the graphs.
Sorry for such a huge post, but my main question is this: How much of a chance do I have to improve my score from a 25 to a 30 by using Barron’s ACT 36 for strategy and The Real ACT Prep Guide for practicing? As I mentioned earlier, I’ve never practiced a lot any time I have taken the tests. Now I only have like 3 weeks to practice, but my main problem is having to still do a lot of school work in the meantime. The good thing is that I’m off for Spring Break, so maybe that will help some. Does anyone think I can improve it to a 30, and is Barron’s ACT 36 and The Real ACT Prep Guide a good combination when it comes to Prep Books?
Thanks!!!

Are the scores going to be put online? I asked my counselor today and he didn’t have my scores yet…

Dang… My scores still aren’t up… Could you post ur subscores and total score for each of the sections so we can see how the curve might be??:)

33!! I’m from Michigan… (I got a 32 in December)

here are the subscores:
E34: 17,18
M33: 18,16,16
R32: 18,15
S33: no subscores

Science and english disappoint me tho cuz I expected 35 in both… Oh well. I’m happy about a 9 because on my other 2 I got an 8.

In october I got 32:
32e
31m

Maybe the science curve on this one was less generous

In june I got 30:

30r
28s

If I just signed up for the test with my school will it show up on my Act account?

I get the following message when I try to log on:

"Your ACT record is currently not available. Please allow one work day before trying to access your record again. If you continue to receive this message after that, contact ACT. "

This was my first time taking the ACT, so maybe that’s why. I already know my composite from a teacher, but I’m dying to know my subscores.

redkeyboard,
I have a similar message on my account. I, however, have taken the ACT before so I don’t think that the message is solely for first-time ACT takers. Based upon it, I think we’ll be able to see our scores online on Monday.

Hope you (and everyone else here) did well on the ACT! :)

mahn,
I’m only familiar with The Real ACT Prep Guide. I’m sure if you use your time wisely and review the material well then you will get 30+ on the ACT.

Also since you’ve taken the ACT before, you know what problems you have with the test (it could be lack time for one of the sections, forgetting some grammar rules or geometry, being unable to focus during reading, etc.). Focus on what you’re weak at first and then do an overall, general review of everything else.
