Today's ACT Test

For everyone who took it today what did you guys think. I thought the math was a lot harder than all the practice tests I took (which were previously released exams) English was pretty easy, science was stupid as always and reading was ok.

What did you think?

Well, I thought the math was definitely harder. I am thinking it will be curved significantly. All the rest were pretty easy I thought, I also think I did a good job on the essay.

i thought the science was hard :[ it was insane

I'm pretty freaked out about the math section... I was trying to turn my 28 into a 30, but I ran out of time and I'm guessing my score went down, instead. :/

I probably overcomplicated the English section... I'm guessing a 34 on that.

I pwned the reading and owned the science (I think). Then again, compared to the December science section, any science section would seem easy.

I was really angry on the reading because the proctor was using the clock on the TV and didn't say so, so i was using the wall clock which was like 4 minutes off so i thought i had a lot more time. I am sooooooooooooo mad.

I agree about the math being way harder than the practice tests! I didn't pace myself well... and I really rushed through the last 5 or so. I guess I'm use to the luxurious timing of the SAT.

Does anyone know roughly how much your score goes down every time you miss an answer? Or how does the "curve" work?

Well the curve works by making the average 21, so then everyone else just falls in around that.

So how many problems would you have to miss to be in the upper 30s?

Depends on the curve, This test seemed a little harder, so you will probably be able to miss more and still be in the 30's. I don't know the percentage break down of the scores, but lets say 30+ is 20% of people (probably completely false). If you score better than 80% of people, it will most likely be a 30+. None of this is exact though, this is just generally how it works.

EDIT: Said score better than 20% of people, meant 80%

Ah... That's good to hear.

The state paid for it today but was too cheap to include the writing so I'll retake anyways. I just hate the feeling in between test day and score report day!

Oh that sucks, you in Michigan by any chance? State paid for mine to but I got to take the writing. I know how you feel with the waiting, its terrible :D

Nope... Wyoming. It's ridiculous, we have huge budget surpluses too. Wait... how can the Michigan legislature afford ACT with writing when Detroit revenue is going down the drain?

Here, I found a percentage-score table for you. ACT (examination) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not sure how we can afford it actually, we do have pretty good social programs though.

Hm well I line up pretty well but it still includes "or below this score" --yikes.
I know 2 people who got 35's with my PSAT score (roughly) and someone who got a 36 and wasn't even National Merit. I guess it's all whacked up.

Yeah, it really just depends what kind of mode you are in on the test day I think.

Does anyone know how long until scores are available online if you took it through the school? Is it any different than the normal 2 weeks?

I'm pretty sure it is still 2-2.5 weeks. I also think the writing test takes an addition 2 weeks after the multiple choice test to get back.

okay thanks :)

@the person who asked: I have no idea how our state affords to pay for all of us to take the ACT. Apparently, they pay for every junior to take it in March, and if they don't get a 20 composite, the state pays again and again until they do!

Of course, judging by the state of our roads, they might have taken the ACT money out of the construction budget...

Yeah probably, nice location tag btw phanatic. :P
