2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

I’m slightly disappointed but I’ll be grateful
2 silver keys and honorable mention

I won exactly nothing. :)

IRAL writing is up for anyone not repeatedly refreshing.

Honorable mention for Northeast- bit disappointed because I got a gold key last year for a story I personally thought was a lot worse, but hey, I’m happy. :D

yeah, emeraldEvi, you would think that Scholastic would be more organized and all, being one of the most prestigious art/writing contests in the country…but no. They never are. I promise you. This is my third year submitting stuff to Scholastic, and I have never been more baffled by a writing contest :P

Won a gold key and three honorable mentions!

They were pretty stingy with the awards this year, though. Only 29 Art Gold Keys for seven counties… :(

WOOT! South WRAL, Silver Key for Poetry! I submitted a science fiction story too but I wasn’t very confident about it anyway, and as my first year entering I’m thrilled! Hope everyone sees their names up there!

hey, i got an email that says
“Hello Student,
Thank you for submitting your artwork to TCAP for the 2012 Scholastic Art Award. You artwork has been selected to receive an award.
The Regional Site Director for your school district will email you by Tuesday, February 7 with more information.
Congratulations!”
It doesnt state any reward and im too impatient to wait until a week from now. Has anybody gotten this extremely vague email before?
(I’m in southwest region)

I’m so excited. I only submitted one writing piece this year, short story, and got a gold key for it!!! :D. Yay, yay, yay, yay!!! I’m just curious, are any of you guys 8th graders who submitted… Thanks!:)

I’ve gotten no info. so far…

this sucks -_-

Submitted an extended (and IMO much worse) version of my common app essay and got a silver key. Was hoping for a gold key but oh well I’m satsified. Grats to everyone!

OH WAIT.

nice scholastic, waita put a tiny link on the side of the page.

I got a silver key! :D

congrats to everyone else!

Is there anyone from California who was notified for writing?

I won two gold keys! One for flash fiction and the other for personal memoir. I was hoping for, but not expecting, this outcome, so I’m obviously very excited.

socal update: i got an email saying my artwork received an award, but it said the exact information will be forwarded by the 7th.

kmcemo: i got the same thing.

guess we’ll find out eventually.

Has anyone from NorCal received an update on writing?

Congrats watchmesoar!

I got absolutely nothing. No emails, nothing.

Midwest Region At-Large: There 1600 writing entries in 2012. According to the website of the percentage of awards: [Awards | Alliance for Young Artists & Writers](http://www.artandwriting.org/Awards)

Regional Awards
Gold Key: The highest level of achievement on the regional level. Approximately 7 – 10% of all regional submissions are recognized with Gold Key Awards and all are considered for national-level recognition.
Silver Key: Approximately 10 – 15% of all regional submissions are recognized with Silver Key Awards.
Honorable Mention: This Award recognizes students with artistic potential. Approximately 15 – 20% of all regional submissions receive Honorable Mention Awards.

So totally in Midwest Region At-Large, there should be around 1600 X(7+10)% = 512 to 1600 X (10+15+20)%=720 entries get writing Golden key, Silver key or Honorable Mention.

Do you guys think there are 500 to 700 writing entries will get awards in Midwest ?

@Rain202, NorCal region right?

A Silver Key for General Writing Portfolio, a Gold Key for Personal Essay/Memoir, Two Silver Keys for Poetry and an Honorable Mention in Poetry.

And I’m in the South Region-At-Large. :)
