Didn’t get what I wanted. This blows
Okay, so the real reason I wanted to win something, even if it was the merest thing like Honorable mention, was so I could go to NY.

Past winners who attended the national events - how was it? I’m considering skipping my senior prom to attend.

My daugher attended the national events the last two years, and they were very enjoyable. But it appears to me that they’re not doing “talks and tours” this year, at least according to the schedule they’ve sent–these were tours of publishing houses or magazines, and workshops on writing, some of which were quite good. Instead it looks like they are emphasizing readings and exhibits. The ceremony at Carnegie Hall is cool, and you get to go on stage and take a bow if you’re a senior. But there are many, many people there.
I guess I would say it’s nice and fun, but I don’t think I’d suggest skipping your senior prom to go. I’m absolutely certain that my daughter wouldn’t skip prom to go again.

I completely agree with Hunt. I’ve been the past two years, and while it’s awesome to be recognized at Carnegie Hall, Scholastic is notoriously horrible at communication and organization. Although the ceremony itself is usually interesting (they have some entertaining speakers, and the presentation of the thing itself is typically good), you have to wait forever backstage. Also, if they’re not doing the Talks & Tours, that takes away one of the best aspects of the entire experience, honestly. Speaking with authors and touring the Scholastic publishing house were my favorite parts of the program.

If you’ve never been before, I’d still recommend going, though. Simply having the opportunity to head to New York is great.

nothing for portfolio… but got a silver medal for drawing

So excited my junior daughter won a national gold award! However two things concern me.
We just took a spring break trip to europe with her class and don’t have extra money to go to NYC from Texas. How incredible is it? If its 800 people having their name read that doesn’t seem to justify thousands of dollars. On the other hand, I’d hate for her to miss it.
Also, she won’t have her painting if she sends it off for two years for her portfolio, does she have to send it? There’s no guarantee it’ll be hung or travel is there?
Just wondering, still very, very excited for her!

Anyone else still waiting on novel results?

I’m waiting for NY Life results

Still waiting for novel, even though it’s…the last day in April…I think they said on their Facebook page that they’d delayed it to May. Typical.

NYLife results have all been sent out, btw.

I’m also waiting on the novel results.

Where does it say that, Moyera?

Mine still says “in late April…” when I log in…maybe I’m just on the wrong page or something?

They posted on Facebook that they postponed announcing the winners until this Friday, May 4th. They also sent an email.

Novel awards are up! Log in to your account and they’ll be there.

Silver medal :)

Is it the entire list or just your particular award? I don’t see anything.

Yes, my son’s page still says the novel contest winners will be notified today, but there’s nothing more than that. The only winners listed are the ones from earlier this year in the other categories.

Nope, just my particular award. It’s listed with all my other national awards…I almost missed it at first because it’s just entered there like any of the others on the checklist page once you log in.

The 2012 winners lists you can click on in the homepage do not contain any novel winners, so perhaps the notices have not been completely posted yet. We can hope…

Unfortunately, I think they have. One of my classmates one the gold, another

Sorry, I don’t know how that previous post sent. Anyway, one of classmates won the gold medal, another a silver medal. Congratulations to all though!
