I wouldn’t lose hope, though, you could still win a regional award for your work! You won’t know about those until they post the list this afternoon.

Also, kgoodwin18, just a guess here from your location, but do you and your classmates go to that arts and humanities school in SC? It seems like that school always wins a crapload of Scholastic/YoungArts/various other awards every year. How do you guys do it…?

Ahh, yeah, I do actually. Lol, I’m not really sure myself. If anything it’s partially because of our teachers and partially because our “natural talent.” Of course, I’m simplifying it because god knows how many long hours we spend just staring at our computer the day before a deadline. We also workshop and read a lot. So…yeah, that’s the best I can do. That’s actually a hard question. lol

That sounds like the perfect school, haha…I go to a governor’s school in Richmond, VA, but it’s centered around government and international studies, so creative writing isn’t really anyone’s focus here.

And you guys must do some incredible work, so even if you didn’t win a national award for your novel, you still must be crazy talented!

California, it’s 7:00 PM and I haven’t received a single email and logging into my account doesn’t get me anything. It says–

“Your work was not chosen on the national level this year. If you’re still enrolled in middle school or high school, we hope that you will keep creating work and enter the 2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Guidelines will be available on Monday, September 17, 2012.”

but I’m guessing it’s old, because it also says–

“Please Note: Novel judging is in progress. Novel winners will be notified on May 2.”

Praying that they’re slow in announcing, but losing hope…

Winners, how did you receive your update? How does it look like?

I didn’t even receive an update. I just logged in (by chance, because I was checking out some stuff about making reservations and booking hotel rooms and all that jazz) and I noticed that my awards queue had one more award in it. Which was the novel one. That was the only way I knew.

You’re quite welcome! Good luck - I hope you get a gold key and that you’re notified in a timely manner. I know Scholastic is sometimes a little haphazard about organization and notifications and that kind of thing, but this is pretty rude of them.

My novel is called “Cathedral Tales” and the excerpt I submitted was right up at 50 pages (filling the very last line of that 50th page, lol).

Does anyone know if I am allowed to submit more than one work in each category? The FAQ says I can submit works in multiple categories provided that they are not the same works, but said nothing about multiple works in one category. :)

A year old thread for an award for arts and writing (as implied by the name). The deadline has passed or almost passed in every category/region at this point.
