2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Eszebel, wow! Lots of submissions; better chances to win something, I suppose. I’m starting to think I should have submitted some more. >_> I sent in a science-fiction piece and a poetry collection.

I’m in South WRAL too, and I’m happy that it says Jan 30! That’s not too long to wait at all; I guess they have a ton of readers. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we get an email somewhere around there saying “Due to the influx of submissions, winners will be posted ____” with a later date, haha.

It’s nerve-wracking though. :confused: I really just want to win /something/, I don’t even care if it’s a gold key. I feel like my poetry collection probably has a better chance than my sci-fi story, but who knows?

@Eszebel what’s yours about?
I’m doing one set in rural Iowa. A road trip is involved. I’m still figuring out the plot; I haven’t started actually writing yet…wooh

000ooo000ooo: log in, go to your regional guidelines, and check the bottom of the page. It should say when you find out about regional awards. All this varies based on region, so you might have a different date than the rest of us.

sumobats: that’s exactly how I feel! I have some huuuge projects coming up and I hope I can actually finish the damn thing on time…good luck!

emeraldEvi: quality over quantity, though! Don’t worry about not submitting much. As long as you were comfortable with what you submitted, it doesn’t matter how much work you sent in. And yeah, I’m afraid that we’re gonna get an email that says, “herp derp, just kidding, we meant Feb. 30!” Also, they tend to give out more awards for categories that are a bit more obscure (like sci-fi) so don’t dismiss your sci-fi piece.

ivyandlemonade: mine is like a modern retelling of Bocaccio’s “Decameron” mixed with the tv show “Heroes.” There are plagues and guns and sooper-dooper magical powers and things blowing up and wow that makes it sound really stupid. Setting yours in rural Iowa is a neat idea, though! Good luck with the plot…I’m struggling a bit with that myself. I don’t know what’s going to happen after the end of the chapter I’m currently writing, haha…

:D Regional Gold Key. Happy, happy, happy.

I was so anxious. 0.o

^AWESOME!!! Congrats!

@007 Congrats! Which region, may I ask?

007, how did you find out already??

(read: should I start freaking out?)

^ I want to know the same!

When did you send in your entries 007? :)

Yeah, my deadline was on the 6th, and I doubt that that they would have posted my regional results yet (btw live in NJ.) Anyway, last year I found out on February 3rd that I won a gold key, but I think that this year it will be on January 30th for the people in my region…

^yeah, it says that the winners will be posted online starting Jan. 30 for the northeast

Well that sucks. My results were suppose to be out yesterday but they have been delayed and the earliest they will come out is sometime next week…

Anyone know for the date results will be posted for RAL?

When I participated last year, it was 2/4. I live in the Northeast, btw.

Does anyone know if Scholastic is pretty true to their deadlines, or is it usually a couple of days late in notifying you?

^Depends on region. I emailed my region and they’re running behind on results so I have to wait until next week (were suppose to come out earlier this week)

@retro
I’m in RAL and it says that the results will be posted on Jan. 30

That’s so soon!! Not to be a downer, but I basically need to start mentally preparing for rejections now.

^yeah I know what you mean

Yeah,I started preparing when the submission went through.
Have abit of hope though just in case you win
Good luck to everyone btw.

Yeah, good luck! Don’t forget to report back once you’ve gotten your results :)
