Okay, so for anyone else who is also applying to multiple schools and also the Terry Scholarship, this is how it works (according to the Scholarship Counselor at Texas State):

You have to submit a separate application for each school because each applicant is ranked from a pool of students at each school. Texas State, for example, sends 50 candidates to be evaluated to the Terry Scholarship, and each student is compared to other students at THAT school to be sent in the pool. UT probably gets more candidates because it’s a larger school. Once they send their top candidates, people are selected for an interview process, and then they select the winners.

I forgot to ask him what the maximum number of recipients is, but I got the impression it was quite a few people.

I wouldn’t worry at all. You’ll be fine as long as you didn’t mess up your essays. Your GPA is higher than average, and you have a lot of credits, which says a lot about your ability. It is easy to have a high GPA when you don’t have very many credits. You will definitely stand out.

Yeah, definitely agree with that. Knowing you can consistently produce results over several semesters is better than just having one or two good semesters. Out of the last 4 semesters, I’ve managed a 4.0 in three of them, all while keeping a job. Probably will again this semester, unless biology really kicks my butt. lol.

I think I’ll be fine wherever I end up. I don’t think I’ll be crushed if I don’t get into UT because I know what my accomplishments are. I just want to know already so I can move forward with whatever direction I need to be going in. I’m the worst at waiting. lol

If I have 25 credit hours from AP Classes and 1 semester of college, will I be eligible for a transfer?

This is my attitude as well. UT will neither make us nor break us. This is an exchange in which both parties gain from a mutual partnership. I love the school, and I think that their program is an excellent fit for me, but I will live if I’m not accepted. Like you, I need to start planning ahead, so hurry up with the decisions! lol

@korsgaard yes you will have enough hours BUT ONLY IF YOU APPLY THOSE AP HOURS FOR CREDIT AT UR CURRENT SCHOOL AND NOT UT. Your school will award credit in courses corresponding to those AP exams. They will appear on your transcript as earned credit but will have no grade. You have to hope those CLASSES your given credit for transfer to UT.

Didn’t UT say they accept all AP credits as a transfer?

yes they do however they wont count them as transferrable hours because you have to be admitted to UT without them before you can redeem the AP exams for credit.

But they count towards ur 30 hour requirement correct?

My summer transfer application changed to “in review” tonight!!!

Hello, everyone. I would really appreciate some feedback on where I stand among all of us applicants. I have been stressing about this for 5 months straight… I have lived in San Antonio for 15 years and that’s just too much time for me to spend in one place. Time for me to leave. I love Austin and I love what UT stands for in the world of academia. Stats and info:

First choice college: McCombs - Business Undeclared (will have all prerequisites completed by the end of the semster).
Second choice college: College of Liberal Arts - Economics.

I currently have 30 credit hours (14 from HS dual credit) and will have 46 by the end of the semester.

I have a 3.75 GPA at UTSA (weighs in at a 3.46 when HS dual credit is considered).
I am expecting a 3.8 GPA this semester, which will bring my total GPA to a 3.67. IF I somehow pull an A out of calc II and get a 4.0, my total GPA will be a 3.77.

Wrote all three essays and put a considerable amount of time into them. I believe they were very strong and I revised them many times. My statement of purpose was especially good.

Three letters of recommendation: One from a McCombs alumni who I worked for at his law firm. One from a family friend who is a senior accountant. One from my accounting professor from my first semester at UTSA (A in the class).

I have had five jobs total, including two at the same time during my first semester of college. Those two jobs were as an independent contractor/file clerk at a law firm, and as a visual/music tech for a nearby competitive high school band program.

I am a Buick Achievers Scholar - 2012 Recipient of the Buick Achievers Scholarship.

I am marching lead baritone for the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps this summer.

I racked up many music accomplishments when I was in band in high school, and I was a 2012 Texas all-state musician.

UTSA Dean’s List.

No extracurriculars or organizations through school. Just Crossmen.

I don’t know if the admissions committee takes this into consideration, but I will have As in both accounting 1 and 2 (a full year of accounting) by the end of this semester as well as As in all business-related classes and economics courses. I’m willing to do the “liberal arts to McCombs” route if necessary (UT is the only school I want to go to), but I would love to get into McCombs right off the bat. However, I don’t know my chances of that happening. I apologize for how long this post is. I’m pretty concerned about getting into UT, even for liberal arts, so I will greatly appreciate any info you all can share to let me know where I stand. Thank you.

Forgot to mention that I am a member of UTSA’s honors college, and that both accounting classes were honors. I also took the honors version of business professional speech and communication.

Anybody got accepted?

NOPE. I can’t wait anymore. my status doesn’t even show the “in review” message

Doesn’t show in review? What do you mean? What does it say?

Mine just switched from “completed” to “in review” late thing evening (after 7 CDT). Feels like progress…

@korsgaard yes your AP credit will count towards your 30hr req IF you have already redeemed for credit at your CURRENT school. So basically you would now just be transferring the courses u got credit for to UT.

Hey guys and gals, I just wanted you all to know that some people in the 2011/2012 cycle found out as early as April 4th. There is no reason why the last cycle’s results should be more likely than the 2011 cycle. (The earliest acceptance from last cycle was April 8th, I think.) The more competitive students applying to COLA should start checking everyday from here on out (assuming you aren’t already doing that!).

@acceptmepls

Based on other applicants I know who have been accepted in the past, I would say that you are more competitive than the average applicant, but McCombs receives more than a handful of 4.0’s every cycle. Best of luck to you. My gut feeling is that you will get in!

mystatus says complete, but it doesn’t say in review yet
