2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

“Applying for Physics as number one choice major and Government as choice number 2. GPA is 3.8 from my local CC and I am an honors student.” - Mark please keep us posted. I’ll be applying for a transfer soon with similar stats as yours, except I’ll be going for liberal arts (history). I’m from a CC, honors, 3.88 GPA etc.

Hi everybody! I’m curious what everyone wrote about for essay topic E and whether you made it major-focused or unrelated. My first-choice is architectural engineering, but I wrote my personal essay about marriage equality.

What’s your first choice major and what topic did you choose for the essay?

@Justinatx

Asian Cultures and Languages (Chinese)
I wrote about higher education, its affect on economic competitiveness, and then proceeded to critique both the left and the right with respect to their ideas about higher education. I’m kicking myself for choosing such a politically sensitive topic…

I don’t know about the people in admissions, but I’d rather read an essay on a politically sensitive topic than a “safe” topic - even if I didn’t agree.

I agree Justin it shows the student cares enough and has enough courage to stand up for his beliefs that’s respectable

Hey everyone! I applied as an automatic transfer admission and will be finishing my core curriculum this spring. When should I hear from UT? Also, is it 100% that I will be accepted considering the fact I meet all of the requirements? Thanks!

I wrote about the pressures women face about their image thanks to current cultural standards and how courage can change that for my issue of importance
Coming from private university in Texas
GPA 3.79
Hours: 59 (+this semester, though ill lose a few)
Applied to: advertising & liberal arts (English)
Good r

Any news on admissions today?

Just found out I got accepted into chemical engineering (my first choice). I got an email saying I needed to send in my meningitis vaccination information to UT, I took this as a sign I got accepted. Logged into mystatus and sure enough I was.

My stats if anyone was wondering:
4.0 GPA from CC’s about 50ish credits with lots of chemistry and physics already completed
No volunteer work but I am a veteran (Marines) and deployed during OIF
I asked one of my teachers for a letter but don’t know if he actually sent one in haha
My resume and essays were only okay (I think).

Good luck to anyone still waiting.

Congrats! @tmm1234

I wrote about the fiscal cliff and The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. I discussed how the entire fiscal cliff situation is basically a battle between politicians and the mainstream Keynesian economists of our government. I then explained how The American Taxpayer Relief is an irresponsible, unambitious and indecisive piece of legislation that neither addresses our country’s fragile economic state nor our ever-increasing deficit. I discussed how this all ultimately falls on we, the college students, because we will be forced to enter a job market characterized by unemployment, underemployment, and low prospects of vertical promotion due to our economic state. On top of fixing the economy, we will also have to find a way to reduce the deficit, and since both issues are only getting worse, we (generation y) will be tossed into a situation where solving both issues simultaneously will be next to impossible. I closed with explaining that the procrastination of drafting truly effective legislation on Capitol Hill ultimately leaves the fragile economy and the increasing deficit as burdens for our generation (generation Y), along with succeeding generations, to bear for the rest of our lives.

It was a page and a half size 12 font, single space, in Word. I wonder if that was too long.

Hi all! Congrats everyone who’s been accepted so far!

I have a questions about GPAs and UT. I go to a school in Maine and it’s quiet different from anything at UT. My classes are 4 credit classes. Here I have a 3.36 and I was originally hoping someone at UT would see that I AM worth the risk because long story short I am a 3.5-3.75 kind of gal USUALLY (screwed around spring semester of freshman year and didn’t do as well, lesson learned.)but I wasn’t sure. I had applied to safety schools just in case and when they sent my acceptance letters they sent back an analysis I guess of my transcript and what classes counted and what not. My GPA ended up being a 3.5 for these other Texas schools (Texas State and UNT) I was wondering if that’s going to be the case for UT? Or…I’ve been so confused about my GPA and kind of terrified, too terrified to call and ask (dumb, I know). I was hoping someone could give me insight. I applied to COLA for linguistics, nothing like engineering or business.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reassurance! Let’s hope you are right about this lol.

@tmm1234
Congrats!

@acceptmepls

I think your essay was probably awesome. My essay drew heavily from economic topics, especially the conflicting visions that have emerged from the Keynesian and Austrian schools and their application to issues in higher ed. I’m glad to hear that we are in the same boat.

Oh and about my essays. My essay E didn’t talk about my major at all, I decided to go a more personal route. Now that I think about it, I barely talked about why I wanted to a chemical engineer in essay A. I don’t think the subject really matters that much, as long as they are well written.

@ablindwatchmaker - Glad I’m not the only economics nerd in here, even if I am a business major. :)

@acceptmepls

Same! Econ is easily the most interesting subject I’ve encountered, aside from foreign languages. Your understanding of the fundamentals will help you tremendously in business, and I don’t care what other people say. I’ll double major in econ if I think I can get far enough through the math sequence. I hear real analysis is a major pain in the ass.

@ablindwatchmaker - Well, I still have my eyes on the business route. McCombs may be out of the question for me because my GPA isn’t above a 3.8 (even though I have great work experience and have almost all of my introductory business courses finished), so I may end up doing COLA for a year, working like crazy, and trying again to get into McCombs in a year. Hopefully McCombs likes the essay, though. I put a lot of effort into it. Haha

anyone apply to the college of education? I hope not so they will have extra seats for me, lol

Did anyone else on here apply for RTF?
I’m getting so anxious!
