2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

Anybody want to chance me?

1) Current College: A Texas CC
2) Current GPA: 3.63
3) First Choice Major/College:CNS/Human Development and Family Sciences
4) Second Choice Major/College: COLA/ Psychology
5) Transferable Credit Hours: Applying with 47, will have 63 by end of semester.
6)Extracurricular Activities:
-Phi Theta Kappa
-English Honor Society
-over 200 hours of volunteer work with special needs this past summer
-Past part time jobs during the school year.
-Dean’s List all three semesters of college

7)Essays: Good
8)Recommendations: I’m applying with zero recommendations

*** This is my second time applying to UT Austin. I applied for Spring 2013 as a transfer with the same major choices and was accepted with a 3.58 GPA. Due to not so good financial aid, I made the decision to decline my offer and reapply for Fall 2013 in hopes of getting in again with scholarships, etc. Good luck to everyone who is also applying!

ThatTransferGirl in all honesty if you got in the first time and are now applying with a higher GPA you’re good to go. At least that’s what I think, I’m still not sure since I’m unsure of my own stats.

lelouchFTW: I was told the same thing, but the main idea is just to get the highest GPA you possibly can so 3.5 is a good min if you want more reassurance on getting in. I know that if your super interested, you can call the college your applying for and ask for the average GPAs that got accepted last term. So for instance I’m doing College Of Communication and they told me the average GPA last year of acceptances was around a 3.82

lelouchFTW: Thanks for the encouragement! I recently spoke to a UT Austin advisor about my situation. I was told by this advisor that it really depends on who else is applying in the fall 2013 applicant pool. Even if I have a higher GPA this semester it really depends on what everyone else’s stats are this semester. So that makes me a little weary about reapplying again for the fall. But when I visited UT for Transfer to Texas, I was also told there are a lot more open spots in the fall compared to the spring… Anyways I’m hoping it everything works out just fine.

To add to what izziedodat said,
Most majors in CNS are guaranteed with a 3.5-3.6 GPA except for the most competitive like Public Health. If you have a 3.86 I would not be worried about not getting in. Your stats are pretty solid in my opinion.

Does anyone know how hard it is to transfer into the school of education from out of state?

ThatTransferGirl: Thank you very much for your opinion! I feel a lot better about applying now haha.

Thanks for your advice as well izziedodat.

I have one last question: After we submit our app, approximately how long does it take to receive a decision notification?

lelouchFTW: you’re welcome! Glad I could help. To answer your question about how long it takes to be accepted/denied, I was accepted last semester about 6 weeks after applying. I’ve heard it usually takes 5-8 weeks depending on how strong of an applicant you are and such, but that is only if you have 30hrs or more of credit when you applied. If you have less than 30 hrs, you will have to wait until the end of the semester and submit your final transcript. Since you only have 15hrs right now, you’ll probably have to wait for your grades to come in for this semester before you’ll here back from them. So hang in there!

1) Current College: Northwest Vista College
2) Current GPA: 3.54
3) First Choice Major/College: Aerospace Engineering
5) Second Choice Major/College: Mechanical Engineering
6) Transferable Credit Hours: 62 (plus 12 in progress)
7)Extracurricular Activities/Recommendations/Essays: Volunteer tutor, veteran stuff (I’m 28 years old), pretty good essays, two letters of recommendation from two engineering phd’s.

My GPA is low for UT engineering, but I’m counting on my well-roundedness (is that a word?) and essays to make up the difference. Plus I’m a badass. Chances?

I think the “badass” just might get you in

KP,

Veteran or not, I don’t see a 3.54 holding too much weight to get you into Cockrell. I’m an officer of the Student Veterans Association at UT and can provide you with some contact info of the Veteran Services coordinator if you’d like.

lelouchFTW: it all depends on your app. if you have 30 credits, you should hear back based on your gpa. the higher the gpa the sooner you will hear back

How long does it usually take for people to hear back if they have less than 30 hours? My second semester doesn’t end until May 12th and I have to wait a few days for my grades to be posted up on my transcript before I submit it again.

1) Current College: Out of State Public School (I’m a Texas resident though)
2) Current GPA: 3.97 (I think 3.8 by UT’s scale since A+ are just 4.0… Should be closer to 3.85/3.9 by the end of this semester)
3) First Choice Major/College: McComb’s Undeclared Business
5) Second Choice Major/College: Economics (COLA)
6) Transferable Credit Hours: After this semester I’ll have 40 hours (Currently only 22), although I have no idea how many will transfer.
7)Extracurricular Activities/Recommendations/Essays: Dean’s List, On campus clubs, set up workshops to help my peers with resumes and such. Nothing over the top. Strong recommendation. Good essays but nothing amazing.
High school - Freshman tennis, HOSA (pursuing business now though), Mu Alpha Theta

*My university’s calculus classes will not transfer so my plan is to take calculus over the summer at ACC or something if I am admitted.

Not sure if I have a chance, I like UT a ton but I’ll survive if I don’t get in.
Thanks all and good luck with your applications!

Hi Y’all, I’m a UT transfer hopeful, I just need some feedback and to know if I stand a chance. I only have 19hrs right now but will have 33 by the end of this semester
My stats:
GPA by the end of spring semester will be a 3.6 or higher
Trying to transfer into College of Liberal Arts:English or Undergrad Studies
I’m a freshman, I have 2 recommendations and pretty good essays and a great transfer resume…
My question is does it look bad that I chose Undergrad Studies/Undeclared as my 2nd option?
Open to any suggestions that will help. THANKS ")

LoveLonghorns: You sound pretty much like me other than the fact that my first choice major is Radio-Television-Film (which I believe is much harder to get into than Liberal Arts). I’ve been told I have a good shot at Radio-Television-Film but if I don’t get in I should be good for Undergraduate Studies. I’m pretty sure Liberal Arts is one of the easier schools to get into so you should be good. There isn’t really much we can do once we submit our application. All we can do is hope we get a good GPA for the second transcript.

When I try to upload my resume which is on a word document to the resume submission, the the text and spacing is all messed up on the pdf is that what the admissions office is gona see? Or will they see my word document? I tried calling them but theyre closed till monday

Save your word document as a PDF (all newer versions of Word will let you do this)

And then upload the PDF format.

@sartis it worked lol. Thank you very much

Is anyone sending in their high school transcript? I don’t really see the point in it, but I’m not so sure…

I didnt want to, but one of the requirements was to show a foriegn language and since I didnt take any in college the admissions lady said I had to so i did. But ya i dont think theres rly a point
