For transfers, if you don’t get into your first or second choice majors, does UT still review you for the School of Undergraduate Studies?

@longhorn1980 - They stamp transcripts with the date when they receive them. It can take up to a couple weeks for it to show up on your status but as long as they receive and stamp it before the deadline you’re good.
(It took about 2 days for them to update my status after they received it)

i think so buti put UGS as my second chioce anyways @featheredfedora

ya your fine mine says the same thing. I uploaded 1 of mine and had the other one sent to The admissions office. good luck

mnaacd im not sure your 100 percent correct on that, i could be wrong but…I have not been admitted yet i am transfering from an Oklahoma University and they already had my classification and how many of my courses would be trasnfered as well as the GPA for it. idk tho

@acanaday88 If your referring to their comment previously, I think you both are somewhat correct. While if you took AP courses, they may count it towards your GPA varying on the score you received and so the better you did, the higher your GPA, but you don’t have an advantage for someone coming in with no AP credits as far as admissions.

But when my boyfriend came in to UT, his credits did not go towards his GPA of admissions, but his GPA while he was an active student. So I think AP credits can have a small factor but not an advantage if that makes sense

izziedodat I was referring to that I just got my hopes up when he said that they admit you before they know what credits will transfer and they had already looked at mine and stuff and I haven’t been admitted yet that’s what i was sayin

Anyone send in a transcript electronically? I sent mines from UTSA from when I went there last year, and on the UT transfer site said it was acceptable as long as it was sent through a UT portal or something…I’m going to send in a physical one just in case, but now I’m nervous!

i have a 3.0 gpa on 12 hrs from dual credit courses in high school which im ashamed of lol and a 3.75 gpa on 22 hours at my first real semester college year.(3.37 cumulative) Which do you think UT Admisions will weigh on more heavily in my decision? A’s in all science courses on 3.6 gap? Anyone you know in similar situation get in?

@featherdfedora:

No - you are only considered for your first and second choice majors.

@lavinboy14:

I had a 3.0 on 6 hours of dual credit and a 3.9 on 16 hours of EE in addition to about 20 hours of ungraded credit from APs and was accepted CNS.

@Acanaday98:

your AP scores will have little to no bearing on your admission. if you have AP credit (i.e. credit at your current institution that has been claimed from an AP score), that, obviously, will be considered.
what you’re seeing is UT’s calculation from your current transcript(s) - nothing from your AP score report. They can’t factor in any AP scores to a projected UT transcript or GPA until you’re accepted, as the curriculum catalog changes from year to year and AP credit standards fluctuate.

@mnaacd thanks i think i have really good chance to get in now! i applied CNS as my first choice and UGS as my second choice. since you had 30 hrs how long after the deadline was it until they gave you a decision?

I completed my UT application 2 weeks ago. Im just concerned about my admission. I will have 33 credits by the end of this spring semester and have a gpa of 3.45. I applied to first UT cola and second undergrad studies. I am also working 25 hours a week. I have pretty strong essays and sent in two admission recommendations. What are my chances of getting in?

@CutieAmber COLA applicants are usually accepted most of the time with 3.5+ based on last years transfer thread so id say you have about a 60/40 chance of getting accepted. Good Luck!

Since I got two different answers, I just want to make sure. UT doesn’t consider transfers for UGS unless you specify it? But they will consider freshmen for it regardless?

Oh darn it, I keep getting worried and thinking of questions.

For total hours completed does that include the hours I’m doing now as well (Spring semester)?

@featheredfedora - Yes, it does include spring credits. I’m 90% sure they only consider you for what you apply for but if as long as your second major choice doesn’t have any significant requirements you should stand a good chance.

So who will be waiting until May/June with me to hear back from UT cause of credits? I can’t believe I have to wait that long! I’m getting anxious!

@Lavinboy14:

I had my first choice major as EE up until late April before I decided to change it to CS. The EE decision wasn’t going to come until the end of the semester because of their calculus requirement, but after I faxed in a request to change major choices my decision took less than a week.

@mnaacd What major’s are CS & EE if i may ask? what are the requirements for a CS major?

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

There are no requirements for admission to CNS under CS, but you’re technically a “pre-CS” major until you complete a series of prerequisite courses at UT.

Electrical Engineering (actually, just admission to the College of Engineering in general) has a calculus requirement. An applicant must have completed Calc 2 or greater equivalency for consideration.
