2013 Who's Going?

I am going to be a freshman, and after much indecision I am going to be a neuroscience pre-med student =)

Who is else is going to be Bruin next year and what is your major!?

bump !

Hey! Me too!! I am right now 90% sure I am going to be an incoming freshmen Bruin, that is if I don’t find something interesting at Berkeley.
And I am also a premed student…undeclared life and science for now but planning on changing it to a specific branch of biology, maybe Molecular, Cell, Developmental and Biology
Are you nervous and excited at all of attending? I know I am haha

Russian Language and Literature

^^ i was between cal and ucla too!!! but i ended up with ucla due to premed advising and since they have a med school, research would be easier to find… and yes i am crazy scared because i dont like LA at all! but one of my friends is going there and we requested each other for roommates…but im hoping i’ll like it there eventually, are you coming from far away? im only 2and 1/2 hours from UCLA

be prepared for pre-med destruction

^oh yes im ready to die!!! =] are you at ucla ?

I’m 99% going. It’ll be 100% once I’m convinced not to go Berkeley (feel free to try  )

i felt/feel the same way, but i think ucla is my safety school… already sent my SIR to both cal and ucla but applied for housing at ucla w/ a roommate… so ive been trying to find cool stuff about ucla, like a farmers market every thursday =] inverted fountains, and free gyms [haha i need it!] so i’ll make due with the location i guess
^what is your major?? themoonisdown?

premed advising…I heard there are so many premeds that it is hard to get it. But I am not sure…do you have any extra information about it?
And no I am coming from very close, like two hours away too haha…I was hoping to get a new outer LA experience but I guess being a premed for me is more important lol
premed destruction? ooo…I am ready to work harder than I tried before
I hope the people at UCLA are nice haha…very few of my friends(like 1-2) are going to UCLA -_- so sad
have you guys already turned in your SIR and submitted housing apps?

Oh dang…you sent your SIR to both CAL and UCLA…then how do they know if your not attending one of them??

sapphire_ocean, I applied as a psychobiology major. You? I’m going to send my housing app with a roommate request as well :)

to sapphire:

Me too!! neuroscience pre med =D
What were your other interests? Whyd you eventually choose neuroscience? What type of doctor do you plan on being, neurologist?

Does anyone know if it’s reasonable to add a minor too? Im thinking a minor in political science…

i called cal and i have to fax them. basically i lose $100 which my dad said was okay… only 3 of my friends are going 1 of which is a semi-close friend. umm i would google it, but from what i know of general knowledge premed means opportunities for practice mcats, and free prep books for check out.

I’m an English major, and I plan to minor in accounting! I hope it’s reasonable…UCLA stress is bad enough as it is.

I’m doing neuroscience too, might go to cal though

^oooh nodnarb!!! awesome! umm i really liked cognitive science, and was thinking emergency medicine, but i went to a summer program at ucsd and heard a lecture from a neuropathologist and fell in love with neuroscience- also i did my project on alzheimers…

I want to be a neurosurgeon if my joints allow me!

And i was considering being a minor in philosophy because it really interests me, or possibly an international relations minor, because i eventually want to go overseas to provide aid for underpriveledged countries.

^ sapphire!!!

No way!!! i aspire to be a neurosurgeon as well!! albeit I wanna do neuroscientific research on the side as well. I am considering doing a md/phd program instead of just plain med school. but im definitely leaning toward plain med school because its way less time…so unless someone figures out how to extend life to 130 years ill probably not do md/phd but it has great advantages…

If you want to be a neurosurgeon, when will you have the time to go overseas and provide aid for underprivileged countries?

^dude that is awesome!!! haha we’ll probably see each other around campus and not even know! lol umm yeah i like research too… as far as overseas, im predicting 12-14 years for my specialization, 10-15 years of establishment, and being overseas in my mid 40’s , yeah i’ll be an old fart doctor but its okay! =)

Dang you guys are planning on minoring while doing premed? I want to do that too (minor in philosophy or environmental science) but I heard premed is hard enough as it is.

Dude I really really really want to go to Africa for the UCLA study abroad programs! I’m hoping to grasp some major motivation in becoming a cardiologist once I actively help out people who suffer from unfortunate circumstances.

Have you guys also heard of what fun things are out there to do around UCLA?
