IlliniParents, ctl987 and mdcmom, thanks, you more than answered my question from upthread.

My sympathy to all who didn’t make it, and best of luck with figuring out your next steps. While it must feel so bad to miss it by just a few points, there are still other good opportunities and options out there.

Based on the scores so far, it appears to be the most competitive year ever. To set expectations I would place the cutoff at minimum the states previous all-time high +1. Best of luck to all, I never realized how nerve racking this could be.

Sorry, Post #179 had the increase/decrease language backward in the first sentence of the last paragraph. It should read: “The 2012 cutoffs DECREASED in all 50 states from 2011, but only 5 states had a DECREASE in 2011 over 2010.” (Does anyone know if I can edit my actual original post to make that correction?)

@IlliniParents- this is a small point, but the commended cutoff includes just a bit over 3% of test-takers. 50,000 out of over 1.5 million juniors taking the test.

My dd with a 209 in MI did not receive a letter yet (we homeschool, so it will come directly here.) I would like to think otherwise (slow mail?,) but I think it is safe to believe that Michigan will be 210 or higher, which would be a +3 or more jump for the state from last year.

Luckily, it wasn’t her top hope for college admissions and scholarships, but it still would have been nice. :(

angelami, keep your fingers crossed. Maybe the letter got delivered to a neighboring house or stuck at bottom of mail bag and will turn up soon. Being in Michigan, you are already so fortunate to have a top caliber state school. My older daughter would have loved to attend UMichigan, but OOS, just no way to pay.

This is my first time through this process, and this has been the most stressful thing I have been through in a long time. We felt 95% sure that my girl made it in Oklahoma based on the historical data, but alas, she did not. She is taking it better than I. I am just devastated. I have to keep reminding myself that one test given on one day does not define a person. All of us on here (students and parents) are the cream of the crop, and no matter the outcome, we have to remember that. Seeing the information that she was in the top 50,000 of 1.5 million test takers makes me proud!

I second the stress thing! For our son’s top pick school, which is also where I went to college, getting our state’s Governor’s Distinguished Scholar Scholarship means a difference of about $80,000 over 4 years because the school more than matches it. One of three ways to qualify is being a NMS. If the Arkansas cutoff goes up by 3, he’s good, with a 205. If by 4, he’s not. The kicker for us is he’s also one point below the ACT cutoff to get the GDSS, with a 31. He’ll be retaking it this month. Then I guess waiting on that score will be the next most stressful thing in recent memory. Crazy! Good luck to all.

Experienced members…when will all states finally know?..Could the wait continue over the weekend? This is so new to me, and the suspense is crazy! In Maryland–and wondering.

Thank you rockFishdg. In the past do most states have scores posted prior to the call needing to be made? The 11th seems so far off right now! :(

@Univbound I’m in MD and I just got the call that the school got notification today. I suspect you will be hearing the same shortly! The didn’t have any cutoff information though but my child got a 230 and is nmsf. Good luck to you and your s/d.

Waiting for official word in NY…today is our first day of school and so I don’t know if they’ll say anything amid the chaos. In fact, the GC told us that they wouldn’t make any announcements until the end of September, which just seems silly! DD got 221, and I know that <=219 has been posted as the cutoff, but it seems too much to ask for our state to be the only one with a cutoff lower than the historical record. So, illogical as it is, I’m still nervous! Too much stress, ack. Are there any other NYers out there who have received official word, even if it’s higher than 219?

Thank you so much Rockfishdg, and congratulations MDMom14. It’s good to know that MD has some info coming in! It’s hard not to be anxious! MDmom14…230 is awesome~!!!Congratulations again. BTW… This is such a great website/tool…and to think before yesterday…I did not evan know it existed.

Well, told my S the other day that he should shoot for 210. Typical Arkansas cut off is around 203? If the cut offs go up this year…maybe 210 is not enough

@4current: good luck to your son, hope he makes it!

Thank you! I know what you mean about it being hard not to be anxious- we all hope for our kids to see that their hard work pays off and want the best for them so waiting for sooo long is tough! I will keep my fingers crossed for your child too!I found this site yesterday as well and it’s been great to get information but also adding to the nerves seeing other states come in and nothing from ours.

Yes @celesteroberts, 203 is the cutoff for top 3%. I would correct that too in my original post if I can figure out how to edit it after it is posted.
