Sorry if this is disruptive, but what does “scea” stand for?

^Yup. It means that you can apply early to only one school, and if you get in, you will not be required to go to that school (unlike an ED school) and can still apply to other schools if you wish.

hahahahahahhaha
you guys are so entertaining, I can’t tell you which sport is more demanding. I can tell you I play year round volleyball for my school and on a national club team and practice every day-YEP-every day for at least 3 hours a day. We get a one month break in the summer between club and school, when most of my team goes to Europe or SA to play. It is very tough to keep grades up and contribute in other ways, too.
OK, back to clothes, I need to shop for a fun modest outfit for my interview, and I am 6’ tall and love to rock 4" heels. Thank heavens my prom date was 6’5".
I will let you all know how my interview goes next week, ahhhhh, I am kind of nervous.

^ uggh, i was sooo nervous to sign up for the interview that now all the slots are taken. i’m praying that i can get an on-campus one before the summer ends. Yes i know that i’ll probably get an alumni one but it gives me an excuse to tell my parents about y i should visit again. haha ;)

Quote chair2: i want to go to yale so badly

Not as bad as i want to go! I want to go so bad:
- my stomach hurts from sheer pleasure whenever i hear someone mention yale
- I’d give an arm, 2 fingers, and a toe to go
- I’d plunge my beloved and expensive ipod elbow-deep into a cauldron of bubbling magma
- There’s more but i just came from work and i’m tired. lol :)

^Lol well maybe I’d give all my toes to go haha. Psh, I don’t need traction or balance when I walk
Haha I just joined a facebook group called “Yale hopefuls.”

Aw Emily I’m sure you’ll do fine! Anyways, having a few butterflies is helpful for some adrenaline, and it keeps you on your toes (wait…what is it with toes today lol?)! Happy shopping!

Smile, you are amazing :] Also, CHANEL. She’s my favorite. I can gush about her all day lol!!!

Ahhh Melody I’m so glad you liked the flapper too! So great. All this rebellion against the older generation that had brought on the suffering of war, and all these young people celebrating that they were alive and living life to the fullest including tossing the corset out the window–fab! And yes, definitely masculine, because women had taken over the mens’ jobs in the workplace while the guys were all at war, so they had to cut their hair and hemlines out of practicality and then eventually it was really fashionable and patriotic to bob your hair and such! Yay! Also, abandoning the corset was really the main reflection of the emancipation of women along with Marie Stopes’ contraceptives and the 19th amendment…haha okay I’ll stop now, I’ll get too excited to be coherent :P

Melody:
On visiting Yale…you should definitely visit if you have the chance! I’m actually lucky enough to live only 20 minutes away from New Haven so I spend a lot of time there, but basically Yale is absolutely gorgeous, New Haven is small enough to be a charming community but large enough to be interesting (and very artsy. Also, as all cities, there are unsafe areas, but students have the brains not to go there and Yale has blue lights and security people and such, so it’s not a big deal. Yale-New Haven has really come a long way, it’s a beautiful collegetown).
Hmm also, Yale’s 12 residential colleges are really beautiful and each one is super unique and everyone I asked tells me THEIR college is the best, which is adorable. Personally I hope to be a Sillimander but each college has its own really cool qualities (tire swing, rock climbing wall, mini movie theater…). Yale’s residential colleges were so impressive that later on, Princeton started to call their dorms “residential colleges” instead, to make theirs sound more attractive :]
Hmm well I could go on and on about Yale and have no idea what exactly you want to hear about, but I suggest you check out Yale’s profile on **************.com and ask us more questions!
I hope I helped giving you a general idea though!

Yeah, I loved learning about the 20s in APUSH! One of my fav. time periods in USH. Dude, we had this project and me and my friends got to dress up as “flappers”. Hahah amaazzzing (it was really just an excuse for us to get dressed up and come to school in heels and whatnot) Your project sounds really cool demiitasse! I wish my fashion one was as creative as yours haha! ME TOO. LOVE CHANEL. i’ll stop, otherwise I can ramble on and on for days.

AHHHH. SO JEALOUS that you can visit Yale. It’s just too far away. I wish every college had the residential college system…it’s amazing. I have friends who are like “ew why would you want a roommate you don’t even know??” but I think that’s the PERFECT way to meet new people and get to interact with people that maybe you usually wouldn’t talk to if you met randomly you know? I love Branford! and Berkeley…but maybe I should just focus on getting IN first? :)

Wow! You’re tall emily! Haha i like to wear heels because it makes me a bit closer to 6’ haha I’m 5’5. Ohhh well, on the bright side, I rarely have to worry about my date being taller than me! GOOD LUCK on your interview, don’t be nervous, I bet it’ll be really really fun getting to talk to someone that actually went to Yale! So just be excited!! I just realized that not only have I been thinking about interview outfits in my head all day, I’m starting to wonder what I should do with my hair. Straight or wavy/curlyish. Up, half up or down. Man, this is stressful =] hahah.

Back to YALE. agreed. Those short takes are like…wayyyy too short. I can barely fit in my first sentence haha. I talk a lot so i tend to write a lot…hahhaha. But honestly, I can write an essay for some of those questions. But since they’re so short, my answers seem completely random, like I’m just trying to be funny or something even though I’m seriously telling the truth.

Yeah, if anyone is willing to share about any east coast colleges, that would be greaatttt.

thefranchize9–hahah I’m sure alllll of us here wants to go to Yale realllllyyyy badly. otherwise, we wouldn’t be wasting our precious summer time to post on this thread! at least i know i wouldn’t if i didn’t like it so freakin much…

You all talk about clothes far too much.

I’m kind of split on the science/math nerd stuff. I’m good at sciences and math, and I have co-authored a paper on cancer research (from a molecular biology perspective) in a prestigious journal, but I don’t want to major in something scientific in college. I’m set on politics, and in the future, I can see myself working for the UN or something like that. I loooove international law and politics, and I can see myself being more satisfied with a career in that area than with one in a science field. I love chemistry, though, and I’ll definitely take lots of classes in it in college, and hopefully do some research while I’m there, but that will be it.

^That is really cool that you co-authored a paper on cancer research! I love politics and IR and stuff, but I also really like biology and think cancer research is really interesting.

Thanks for the info Demittasse I’ve only seen pictures of Yale, the virtual tour, the viewbook, and been through their website, but I would love to visit Yale! Unfortunately there is no way to visit Yale for me. I wish I lived close to Yale :/

Haha, Smile, that is AWESOME that you dressed up like a flapper!!

And by the way, are the short takes going to be the same as last year? On the common app website it still says that Yale’s supplement is ‘not available’.

I’m so annoyed, I literally check the common app every day to see if the supplement is out. I think if anything changes, it’ll be the “short takes”. I wish I could visit, too…

If I get in EA, I will basically only do the bare minimum in school to ensure my admission isn’t rescinded.

rocker, you published in a journal! that’s awesome! i wish i could do that, lol. i’m kind of like you guys, but the opposite way. i love math/science and the humanities, but i’m likely to major in (social) science and/or something art-related.

i really really want the yale supplement to come out. that’s the only application i’m focused on right now, and it’s not out yet!! agh.

rocker–sooo cool that you published a paper on cancer research!! I haven’t done anything even close to that big haha. And yeahhhh we probably DO talk about clothes wayy too much. I apologize =] haha couldn’t help it.

Not too interested in politics, but it’s probably just because I’m so behind on what’s going on I like learning about it…because mostly likely, the info will be completely new to me haha

I’m interested in social sciences kinda stuff…international law sounds cool…so does international studies/relations, sociology, psychology, public policy kinda stuff. Pretty good at math but nooo way I’m majoring in it…not my fav subject and DEF not science. That’s probably my weakest subject. History’s interesting too…wouldn’t major in it but I always enjoy the class! I don’t know…I like learning about a lot of things and I’m reallyyyy indecisive about what I’m gonna put as my major because I have no earthly idea until I take some college classes and explore a bit.

I think the Yale supplement comes out soon right? Like in August? (DEF not soon enough though haha…especially since we’re applying SCEA…). Yeah, I don’t know if the short takes will change but it’s nice to know what to expect and brainstorm some ideas. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

haha rockermcr, “if i get in EA”…I’m not even gonna think about that right now. :)

Thanks Smile!!! Ahhh that must have been so much fun dressing up, especially with friends!! I wish I thought of that! And yes, I looove the residential college system, it’s definitely another plus about Yale!

No problem Melody! I’m glad I could help a little. Well, if you get in, you get to go to Bulldog days for a weekend (oh and of course, to Yale for your next 4 years!), so let’s all keep our hopes up! :] Wouldn’t it be fun if we all got acceptances and met up to celebrate?
And oooh yes! I’m really grateful I live so close! Sometimes I just randomly tell my mom I need to go sketch the architecture for art class just so I have an excuse to spend an afternoon at Yale lol! And then I end up at the art museums, or at the Peabody, or Ashley’s ice cream haha.

Haha sorry about the clothes gushing, Rocker. You know girls
I’m really frustrated that the supplement isn’t out too! I know that there’s last year’s for reference, but I’d be able to take it more seriously if I had the actual one =/
But yes, I think August is when it comes out! I’m excited :]

Silly girls, lolol.

You should probably look into scheduling an October interview right away. They’re probably incredibly busy from September to January.

I hope Yale gives alumni interviews in Canada. I wish I could visit the campus but I just can’t fit it into my schedule at this point. Sucks.

I was answering what Demiitasse last wrote.

My essay is pretty much done, I just need to spend 1-2 weeks editing it to make it better. I can’t wait to finish everything and finally click “submit” on the silly common app.

So out of all the other colleges you guys are applying to, which supplement is your favorite?
I really like the Stanford and Princeton supplements (Idk if I’m applying to Princeton yet though…) And I like the Yale supplement too, the short takes look interesting…lol
Haha, I’m so scared that I’m going to accidentally click ‘submit’ and have my unfinished app sent to all the schools I’m applying to!

If you leave the “signature” section at the bottom blank until the very last moment, you’ll be fine. Trust me, curiosity got the best of me and I clicked submit, haha.

Are you applying to any safeties? Because only applying to schools like the ones you listed isn’t really “being safe”…

I think Stanford has a good supplement. It’s really thorough. It’s kind of like Princeton’s, but in more detail. I’m not sure I’ll be applying there, though, but I put it on my common app anyway. I don’t get why Columbia doesn’t use the common app, ugh.

Personally, I don’t think colleges would look up thousands of facebooks and then try to get into them (which they supposedly can, even if yours is on private/secret)
But you never know–colleges have been sneaky in the past, like that time Princeton hacked into Yale’s database to look up some admitted students, lol.
