2014 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

@yasminwrites random, but just wanted to say that you were the one who got me into poetry and writing in general. that was about last year. love love love your blog and writing.

and my regional notification date is fri, jan. 31 - super nervous! i submitted seven things this year (five poetry submissions, one personal essay, and one dramatic script). last year i only submitted one thing (it was completely last minute) and i remember freaking out when i checked award notifs in stats class. always exciting.

Hi guys! I found this post while searching on Google for some answers about the awards process. I received a Silver Key today for one of my works, but I was kind of surprised because it was one of the two I was less proud of. The email states that I should receive more emails for each piece I win for, but right now I only got one. Does that mean thatā€™s the only award Iā€™m going to receive? Or does my other piece and portfolio (I submitted two art pieces and one portfolio) have the chance of receiving another award? I guess in other words, do they send out award-emails on a rolling schedule and not all at once? Iā€™d appreciate an answer from past experiences or knowledge;; thanks!

Iā€™d say if it doesnā€™t come within the next 2 days, thatā€™s probably it. It varies by regionā€”some are more organized than others. Your teacher/sponsor should be able to check online to see which pieces won, I think. I remember getting multiple emails for multiple awards but they were all within an hour of each other. But situations change year-by-year and region-by-region.

Congrats!

@SJinnn Which region do you belong to?

I think every year Midwest region announce winners in early Feb.

Thanks kitkat522!
And cherryli, I submitted for the Northeast New Jersey Region. I guess Iā€™ll wait for future emails but not count on it too much. Thanks guys.

@mellivine: thank you so much woah. iā€™m really glad you love writing and poetry and stuff now!! best of luck!

i submitted a whole bunch of pieces (all writing) and iā€™m really nervous lol. btw, @designdreamer, please donā€™t feel like a failure bcus of this!! contests are really really not important in terms of art itself, they are simply a silly form of validation. your art is important and just the fact that you wake up and make your sculptures and make art means that your work has value bcus it matters to you!!

@SJinnn Iā€™m also in the New Jersey region. Best of luck this Friday. Crossing my fingers!! :)

My teacher just called me (we had a snow day today) saying he got an email from the regional Scholastic people. He said that I got 4 gold keys and 3 silver keys for my writing! I got awards for 7 out of the 9 things I submitted! This is my second year participating in the Scholastic awards (I got 2 gold keys last year as a Sophomore), so I am very excited! I hope all of you get good results back soon!

@ArtsyGal88 Thanks! Good luck to you too.
Unfortunately for me it turns out it was only the Silver Key I wonā€¦Ah well I guess it wasnā€™t too bad for a first try, but it was also my last chanceā€¦ But I still have a concern. One of the emails that notified me of my portfolio didnā€™t have the name on it. Like usually theyā€™d tell you which piece won/or didnā€™t win an award, along with the category and name of your piece. But for some reason there was no title on the portfolio? Is that normal? Did anyone else who submitted a portfolio receive an email about it without the name of it? Iā€™m worried that it might have been a mistake and maybe they mistook it? Any response would be appreciated!

They donā€™t tell you the name of the piece that won. You can maybe find out on your profile online (log in perhaps?) otherwise teacher accounts should have that info. Otherwise send them an email but donā€™t get discouraged if it takes them a while to respond. Send it to your regional person.

Iā€™ve mostly just been lurking on this board, but I wanted to say that I just got my emails for writing today! Iā€™m in the Midwest region (RALMW). 3 gold keys, 1 silver, and 1 honorable mention. (The emails did say what pieces won what awards.) Iā€™m very happy, considering I only submitted 5 pieces. :~)

AHHHH, preparing myself for tomorrow! :(

Email came a few minutes ago. 3 Gold Keys and 2 Silver out of 8 submissions in Poetry.

Omgggg

iā€™m so scared 'cuz i just reread my short story and boyyy does is it suck.

I find out in a few hours! Ahhhhh

silver portfolio and gold individual submission!

but iā€™m puzzled because at least 3 of the five pieces in my portfolio have gold keys. so, why the silver? but my personal statement was not so great

Iā€™m in the DC/VA area and I havenā€™t heard anything. Is today really the last day for notification?

I donā€™t think thereā€™s really a last day. Find your affiliate on artandwriting.org and see what they say about notification. If your affiliate is Writopia, they said theyā€™d send an email when results are up on their website.

Northeast region at large hereā€¦ Did all of the winners already get emails and stuff? The email I got says everything will be posted at 5:00

^Iā€™m wondering the exact same thing. Now Iā€™m kinda bummed since I havenā€™t received anything. This whole time I thought I was ok - that everyone (including winners) would find out at 5PM todayā€¦

Wait I never got an email even notifying me of that - I saw in on the website. Now Iā€™m worried that my submission didnā€™t go throughā€¦I didnā€™t get a confirmation email or anything hmm
