Major- Business Management
GPA- 3.55 (on supplemental)
Transferring from MiraCosta College in Oceanside/San Elijo
pending
All major prep completed/ IGETC certified
Was advised by my transfer counselors to not do the AS/T option because Miracosta is in the San Diego county district.

@nthoside I’m north county as well and we are NOT in SDSU’s service area, we are in CSUSM’s. With that said, if CSUSM doesn’t have your major then SDSU will include you in theirs (For example I’m a computer engineering major, which csusm doesn’t offer. So I’m technically in SDSU’s service area).

@stevoleeto Yeah I’m fully aware of that. I’m hoping that their advice on not applying for an AS-T doesn’t hurt my chances. I already got denied from Fullerton with an AS-T but got into CSUSM early January. Are you from Miracosta as well? I’m wondering how the heck the guy from Chicago with a 2.6 got in already? That’s b.s if you ask me.

haha I’m totally with you on that one @nthoside

@nthoside I’m curious. How does living in the SD county district make your transfer counselor feel it best not to get the AS-T? I was told it was practically the best option to go with that’ll put you to the top of the list.

But I’m kind of annoyed because AS-T people have to wait until April to find out, while normal transfers are getting their admittance letters now. “Priority admission” ??? How is it priority admission if we are getting evaluated last… Pretty annoying.

@christinedoz Beats me. I had the director of transfer Lise Flocken and Jed tell me that miracosta students in the past were getting in without the AS-T option rather than submitting it with it. I trust their advice, if anything I would appeal if I don’t get in because of this. Are from Miracosta as well? I heard the transfer counselors were telling all sdsu prospects this so at least I won’t be out of the loop in that aspect.

@nthoside director of transfer at SDSU or miracosta? And no, I’m in the local area and was told to do the AS-T but I kinda feel like I shouldn’t have because people without the degree are finding out their fate sooner lol. One of my best friends went to school at Miracosta for a little and got accepted recently to SDSU without the AS-T. So yeah…and some of the people posting here that have gotten accepted haven’t mentioned the AS-T degree, have average (or kinda below…) stats, and are even across the country so it’s kind of baffling me this entire process…

@Christinedoz at Miracosta. You were told to do it? That sounds weird because if you’re in the service area then its almost guaranteed admission as long as your GPA is above the major requirement. Very true, my cousin didn’t get into SDSU with a 3.7 GPA but got into Berkeley. I feel like they choose name out of a hat which I think is laughable.

What are my chances?
Has anyone with a Sociology major hear anything?
Major: Sociology
Have all of golden 4, 60+ units.
GPA: 3.08
Pending
From Los Angeles

@nthoside Yeah! Many people have said that SDSU caters to local transfer students, but from last years thread and a little bit of this one, it seems just completely random like you said. And idk, my counselors and people I spoke with personally at SDSU said AS-T succeeds TAG and that it’s currently the “most guaranteed” path to take so I trusted them with that. Bleh

@christinedoz I was told by my counselors that sdsu doesn’t have a TAG agreement with miracosta hence their advice. I already got my eyes set on CSUSM, but it will be nice knowing that sdsu accepts miracosta students.

Just so everyone here can hopefully relax a little, this is how the admission process works (to my understanding):

Majors with AA/AS-T’s give people with these degrees first priority for admission. After the initial application process, admissions counts how many AA/AS-T applicants they have. If they have 500 spaces to fill in the Sociology major (this is just an example, I do not know how many spaces they have in ANY major) and they have 400 AA/AS-T applicants, they know that they have 100 spaces for non-AA/AS-T applicants. They then evaluate the remaining applicants and fill those 100 spaces. After receiving the AA/AS-T applicants’ verifications, they evaluate those applicants. If any of those 400 AA/AS-T applicants are not actually completing their degrees, they give their space to non-AA/AS-T applicants.

For applicants that do not have an AA/AS-T or TAG agreement, admissions evaluates and ranks them based on their residence (San Diego, California, and out-of-state), whether or not they have fulfilled all or just some major prerequisites, and GPA.

For really popular majors, even if you have completed all of the prerequisites, there may be only a few spaces available after the AA/AS-T/TAG and local resident applicants have been accommodated.

The admittance of some and not others may seem random when looking at this message board. But remember, only a small handful of the 20,000 transfer applicants use this forum.

At this point, if you have turned in all of your paperwork on time and completed all of the necessary classes, this part of the admissions process is completely out of your hands. It is hard not to worry about the “what if’s,” but try to focus on your classes because, when you do get that letter of admittance, you have to maintain your GPA in order to not have it rescinded.

Good luck everyone!

PS The guy from Chicago is a ■■■■■. :)

@knhofto okay that makes more sense to me because I’m like, if AS-T people are getting “priority” admission then why are we getting evaluated last? I didn’t realize they were reserving spots for us. So basically we are in, unless they find we are missing paperwork or the verification?

@christinedoz If you have earned an accepted Associate Degree for Transfer to SDSU along with maintaining the specified GPA then you are guaranteed admission to SDSU. This only applies to local area students. It doesn’t matter when you get admissions, the fact is that you are guaranteed a spot.

@defacto and the AS-T must be for your specific major correct? I was going to get one in math (had to take 1 health class to get it), but was told it wouldn’t help me since I was not a math major, so I didn’t bother getting it. Is this correct?

@stevoleeto Yes, that is correct. Keep in mind you’re not applying to go to SDSU. That’s only for lower division and you’re done with that. You’re applying to get into the specific school for your major. An associates in math would get you into the college for mathematics & statistics. If that’s not your intended major it obviously makes no sense to apply to get into it.

From what my counselor told me at Mesa college an AS/AA-T does not automatically guarantee you admission to a university that you apply to or the one in your area, it guarantees admission to a CSU school that can make room for you. I have never heard of guaranteed acceptance into the college in your local area.

SDSU is the slloooooooowest! I’ve herd back from all my schools, just waiting on SDSU’s response. Because SLO is calling my name Anyways… All you who have been accepted did you get an email from SDSU as well? Im tried of refreshing my portal. Thanks guys. Good Luck and Congratulations!

@SDSU69 Last Wednesday I got an email congratulating me for being accepted and it included instructions on what to do next.

Any idea what day this week the next batch will go out?
