@taylorsams13 Did you complete all your credits in the local area?

@TheOnlyJuan The only reason you got denied was you’re in the forth tier… Transferring from a 4 year university to SDSU… Well, your chances are slim. Stick with cal poly! Its a good school!

@TheOnlyJuan I’m sorry, this puts you in the fifth tier, not fourth.

@Underthestars Did you complete all your units in the local area? What is your major?

@nannl0ve You’ll get first priority since SDSU is offering Criminal Justice this year for their ADT program. Let us know what your status is!

@Underthestars Hey, I just check your previous post, and this would put you in the third tier… I would appeal if I were you, but then again SDSU admission doesn’t take them into full consideration. Apply for an ADT, your chances could be better.

@ deereel I’d say your chances are slim Coming from the LA County… Then again, let us know!

@joogman23 Congrats :)

got rejected today. Received an email to check portal.
3.6 gpa for art- multimedia major
its ok though!

Miramar college said I am in the second tier since more than 50% of my
Units are from a San Diego college and I live here

What’s adt?

@underthestars you’ve completed “34 units from LA college” which puts you in the 3rd tier. Second tier is for local students. ADT is an Associated Degree for Transfers, which is basically you’re getting your associates, and you’re also getting first priority from SDSU

DENIED
Major: Liberal Studies
Not surprised, I didn’t have all my prerequisites completed. Oh well, best of luck to everyone else.

Reading the GPAs of some of these denials… I think something must have gone wrong.

Wow… I got denied. I don’t understand at all.

Major: Business Administration (Accounting)
GPA: 3.55
Location: Norcal (Bay Area)
Community College student.
All major prereqs finished (except one, which I am taking right now, meaning it will be done by end of Spring)
IGETC/CSU GE all finished.

I am seriously pissed off. How on earth does this happen? How did joogman, who is not a local area applicant, who has pretty much the same stats as me, same major, same prereqs finished, but a lower GPA (3.39 by the end of Fall) get admitted and I did not? I am seriously going to do whatever it takes to get a straight answer out of whoever is in admissions.

I can think of several possibilitie explanations, none of them comforting at all:

1) possibly joogman is a liar and a ■■■■■ (I really hope this isnt the case, but this is the internet, and you never know).

2) They somehow did not receive my supplemental application? Looking at my SDSU portal page right now I see 3 sections. “Name and Address”, which then contains numerous lines with my SDSU ID, my email, my mailing address, etc etc.

Then there is “Applicant Information”, which then contains numerous lines with stuff like Application Period, Major Name, Degree Objective, Admission Status (Denied Admission), etc.

Then the 3rd section has this:

Required For Admission

Supplemental Application:

It simply says “supplemental application” with a colon following after it and absolutely nothing written after that.

This just looks very suspicious to me. I’m wondering, did they actually receive my supplemental application or not? I did fill it out and in fact I have the printout to prove it. From what I remember when filling it out, there was never any section or button to press to “submit” it after filling it out. It even stated that whatever you fllled out would be submitted automatically on the due date, and that you could edit the supplemental application at any time before that due date (I think it was Feb 13th)? This just seems very suspicious to me.

3) An Associate Degree for Transfer actually DOES substantially increase my chances of admission even though I was specifically told by SDSU admissions and my CC counselor that the ADT is only considered for General Business and Financial Services majors for those applying to Business Admin. In fact, this seems to be reiterated by the chart on this webpage:
<a href=“Transfer Students | SDSU”>Transfer Students | SDSU;

If this is somehow false, then I was seriously misled by numerous people. If having ADT even when applying for a major that does not accept ADT gives you an edge, then why do they mention at all on the site above a CSU Mentor major equivalent of “Business Administration (Financial Services)” and Business Administration (General)"? Why not then just have a Business Administration AA-T/AS-T be the equivalent of “all Business Administration” majors at SDSU?

4) Perhaps the fact that I didn’t have Business Calculus (my last prerequisite) completed by last Fall as opposed to this spring? This would seem very strange.

Then again, I’m only throwing this one out as a possibility because Mrudnick applied for accounting with a 3.95 GPA and claims to have gotten rejected, and is finishing his last GE and major prep class right now.

5) SDSU’s admissions process is simply broken and dishonest, or there are factors that they are taking into account that they are not disclosing.

I am just seriously infuriated right now. It’s not even so much that I got denied. It’s that I keep hearing of people who with a major same as mine, same prereqs/GEs finished, but a lower or very similar GPA (I think some other out of area applicant got in with a 3.58 getting acceptances and I’m getting denied. I want to know WHY EXACTLY this is the case. A potential appeal and reversal of the admission decision, at this point for me is just a bonus that might possibly happen. What is far more important to me is, even if the decision stands, for me to be absolutely 100% sure why this seeming discrepancy is going on. And then you have 3.77s, 3.9s and 3.95s denied? Are you kidding me?

Btw, can anybody fully explain to me this whole “tiers” thing that people have been talking about?

@brett8 i hope so! that makes me feel better. i will keep you guys posted!

SDSU is very very tricky and unpredictable. I’m not sure how I got in, It’s a miracle but the only thing i could say they gave me some leverage was the fact that I had a 1/4 of my pre reqs done at Mesa and City College down in San Diego because I spent a semester there. I’m really surprised most of my buddies didn’t get in either that have better stats than I do. The most crucial thing about the admissions process is if you are a local resident or not. If you are, congratulations you’re in, if you’re not, you’re screwed. I guess thats just how it works. I also did put my old address (San Diego Address) on my application so that is also why I think i got admitted. I just get my mail forwarded to my address up in nor cal where I am right now so they think i’m local. I have also crammed my fall semester and Spring semester with major prep classes because I just recently switched majors from nursing to business, I was in 18 units the first semester and now i’m in 19 at the moment. I also graduated high school '12.

Also it seems that a lot of people have been applying for accounting and its because they either want to do accounting or they are missing a pre req (business communications) for another emphasis at state such as finance or marketing. So people have been applying for accounting hoping to get in and switch the emphasis when they get to sdsu. My friends all did this and so did I but it was a bad idea. I bet if you applied for a different emphasis you would’ve got in. Its the fact that TONS of people have been applying for accounting. My advice is to apply again next year and do an emphasis that isn’t popular and then when you do get accepted, go to sdsu and switch the emphasis. This is all just my opinion though.

I will not be attending SDSU because my buddies didn’t get in today.

also what screws people is that people do not read about the emphasis on IMPACTED for sdsu. They’re tremendously impacted and they’re not lying whatsoever. I lived down there and visited sdsu and 2/3 community colleges down there. It’s crazy, it’s very very crowded. Classes are very hard to get down there and I know this from experience. Because of budget cuts the past two years they have not offered any summer classes for students at CC’s down there so FALL and SPRING semesters are packed even more. You got all these people at the local CC’s down there and you got people coming out of HS down there, and you also have people from Mexico commuting to sdsu and the local CC. Trust me I know, i’ve talked to mexicans who cross the border every day to go to the CC and say they are transferring to SDSU for convenience. I love SD but the schools are so impacted that they must give priority to their local residents and when they do there aren’t enough spaces for others in other areas of California.

@F2014Accounting Okay, so I’m sorry about your status, but yes sdsu is like playing with a chess game. So, ever since they had the budget cuts they only accept people in the local area. Granted based on the stats, transfers completing 100% of their units in the LOCAL area they tend to have a low gpa… They look at them first, then they look at the rest based on how theyre ranked. Sometimes if your gpa is too high they considered you to go somewhere else based on your grades. Its a weird process, I know. Whoever told you about the adt is for business students, thats a lie. It’s for any major, that SDSU would offer! However, based on some previous post someone from North cal applied to sdsu with a 3.9 in business, but got denied. They mentioned getting an adt for the spring, but then again, Im not sure if he filed his supplementary app along with a adt. Its a weird process. My friend moved from New York just to be in the local area to go to SDSU… Then again you can appeal, but they dont really take them in consideration. I wouldn’t think joogman23 is trolling, since he or she completed their adt, and has taken some classes here at sd mesa

Also, remember, SDSU is a hard school for upper division. They have a 30% grad rate, and a lot of students drop out… Id think again applying to SDSU. The professor over are tough. My friend graduated with a 3.7 in hs, and has a 2.4 now. The professors won’t really have a 1 -1 conversation in class…
