2014 SDSU Transfer Decisions - POST HERE!

@brett8 @F2014Accounting woah, the ADT is not for all majors. It’s for specific majors, and will only help you if the AD-T matches your major of choice. In this case there is no specific AD-T for Accounting; so it would not have helped him.

@stevoleeto Yes, my mistake, but then again it depends what SDSU offers. Well not necessary, he could change his major once he goes in. Yes the websites says you CANT, but theyre lying… They just dont want more students to switch their majors

@F2014Accounting

What you mentioned about the Supplemental Application sounds concerning. My fiance’ hasn’t heard back yet, but there’s nothing listed on his WebPortal even mentioning the Supplemental Application still, even under the Required for Admission section. He completed it on time and it seemed to disappear after the due date. I’d definitely appeal or at least contact SDSU to check for an error…

@5nonnegotiables why do you think accepted locals will leave? I’m a local as well as several people I know that got accepted. Most of us are staying here because it’s cheaper. We can stay at home and commute to school. It’s way cheaper than paying to live somewhere else and paying all the out of area fees.

I am San Diego resident, all classes except for 3 from Local community college, AND 4.0 GPA. Was DENIED today… I am Economics major.

@Karina88 Are you from North County? (I’m trying to remember everyones post, so if Im wrong sorry >.<) If so, I do believe Csusm offers Econ… Tech, you wouldn’t be considered in their local area

@Brett8 I took only 3 classes at Miracosta, which is in North County. All other classes were taken at Mesa. And I live in Ocean Beach, which is the local area. (Not sure if residence area matters though).

@karina88 you probably got denied because you were missing 3 classes

@karina88 sdsu is really strict about residence. Since you took 3 classes at Miracosta, that would put you in tier 3 because Miracosta isn’t in the local are with sdsu. Therefore you’ve only completed 50% or more of the units. The only schools sdsu defines to be in the local area is all of the San Diego community college schools, grossmount and Southwestern. If you took all the classes in the local area, then you’ve completed 100% of your units and that would put you in tier 2.

@brett8 Cuyamaca and Imperial Valley College are part of their local community college service area too

@transfersd yes, that too! I keep forgetting about those schools, lol

Still pending…

Did anyone who got denied today have an ADT?

TAG’ed for UCSB this was a back-up–or not!!

@transfersd

well, most people I know want to go away to college, someplace different from SD, and they don’t want to live at home. Their parents will pay, or they will work pt, or get loans or have scholarships or a combination. I guess I feel and I think many of them do as well is that we grew up here and want to see someplace new during college, different people, and want a different type of college experience than SD, since we are from here. I also applied to Cal, UCLA, CalPOLY, and Taged UCSB. So, it’s just a preference. I know that if I get into SDSU, and when I get my TAG to UCSB, I will release my spot at SDSU. The problem is that some schools don’t give out decisions until late, which leaves these spots tied up for others until later. Anyways, good luck.

No one is guaranteed irrevocable admission to SDSU. Even though SDSU is a medium tier school in ranking terms it is extremely popular place for undergraduates to apply too. San Diego is a lovely town. SDSU has over 30 thousand students with many undergraduates taking 6 or 7 years to graduate. For the fall 2014 they had 78 thousand applications for approximately 7,500 places. That is like an “Ivy League” selection criteria. But because SDSU’s legal mandate is to serve the “local area” and have a certain complex student body mixture …the process can be sometimes unfair and opaque. SDSU is cannot select students solely on the basis of high GPA, SAT’s, background, and or character. If they could they would be Harvard, Yale or Cornell. I personally know many students over the years who were rejected from “State”, but were accepted at far more prestigious institutions.

I wish all of you the best of luck in your educational endeavors. Just keep working hard and everything will work out for the best.

can i ask you guys a question, so i am currently pending on mines right now for computer science, i am also in the TAG program and i am a local. Is the TAG program a guarantee that i will get for sure?

@jimtruong14 yes, as long as you took atleast 30 credits at your ccc and met the gpa required and class criteria you may have needed, then yes absolutely. I tagged ucsb and did all that but my transfer advisor said I still don’t get a letter or email or whatever to accept me i to ucsb until everyone else does

yea i took all my class at my community college, even the prereqs that they only offer at state, and i met gpa. thanks all for the reassurance because i have been worrying about it alot. thanks again much appreciated

Did anyone else get the option to waitlist?

@F2014Accounting joogman took classes at a local area school. Depending on how many classes he/she took, it could have given him/her a higher priority than you, even though you have a higher GPA.

@jimtruong14 The previously given information regarding TAG is incorrect. You must take 100% of your transferable courses at a local school AND there cannot be an AA/AS-T for your major. There is an AS-T for Computer Science, so unless you applied with this degree, you will not be given priority (beyond residence priority) and are not eligible for TAG. :(
