@blondie1967 The guy with the 2.8 GPA was a ■■■■■. UCSD does not start sending out decisions until this end of this week or early next week. Did you TAG into UCSD? I doubt you will have a problem getting into UCSD. Last year the GPA cut-off for transfers was 3.3, then they let in everyone on the waiting list up to 3.23. You SHOULD qualify for TAG into SDSU if your major isn’t offered at CSUSM, but I am not sure if they take into account specializations. I think that you would have a good chance at an appeal if you make the argument that CSUSM does not offer your major with specialization, therefore, you should be covered under TAG.

@F2014Accounting This is the way ADT admission to SDSU was explained to me: Say there are 300 available transfer spots in the Sociology major (this is just an example). If there are 500 ADT applicants, they will rank the applicants first by residency (the college you are transferring from). If that leaves them with 400 local ADT applicants, they will again rank those applicants by GPA and fill the 300 spots with local ADT transfers with the highest GPAs. This means they will have to turn away 100 local ADT transfers, and they can do so because an ADT does not guarantee you admission into they CSU you apply for, only into a CSU that can accommodate you.

Now say there are 500 ADT applicants, and only 200 of them are locals. The first 200 spots will go to local ADT transfers. Then the remaining transfers will be admitted as follows: ADT applicants who most closely fit the “5 criteria” I mentioned earlier. So an ADT applicant who has taken some, but not all, classes at a local school will be ranked higher than someone who has taken none. The residency criteria is much more lenient than TAG, you are considered a local transfer if you have completed more than 50% of your transferable coursework at a local school.

I know it sounds unfair that people who have lower GPAs are being admitted while others with higher GPAs are not, but SDSU is not a private institution. It receives a good majority of its funding from the state government and has an obligation to give higher consideration to its local residents, just as all of the other CSUs do. SDSU has five community colleges with LARGE student populations that feed into it, whereas other CSUs only have two or three. The residency requirement is to accommodate not only the large student bodies of the local CCs, but also the students who cannot afford to move away from home or cannot move due to family/work/whatever other obligations. It is there to give these students a better chance at obtaining a higher education. Private institutions do not receive state funding so they are not obligated to make these accommodations and can admit students solely on merit.

@blondie1967 just because someone has a lower GPA doesn’t mean they weren’t working hard or trying. Things get in the way. Sometimes people have family obstacles that get in the way of getting high grades. Sometimes a subject is a struggle for a student to get through. Please don’t just jump to conclusions. That being said I think you have a good shot at UCSD.

Does anyone know if there is a way to confirm the admissions office has received your AA-T or AS-T verification of intent to earn form? I just faxed mine today and while I know they “accepted” it as in the fax went through to the number a woman in admissions gave me over the phone (for some reason their fax number isn’t on their website), I don’t see a way to confirm that on my webportal or anywhere.

@ajmarr I just talked to my counselor 30 min ago and he said to literally call SDSU admissions and to ask them to check if they received your verification. I will be e-mailing the verification form to them, as advised by my counselor. Be sure to have some sort of proof that you faxed it because proof is always good.

I’m kinda pissed because my counselors are all agreeing that SDSU is all over the place and unpredictable in their admissions process this year. I tried to get answers as to why people with TAG and regular transfers are finding out their statuses first despite having been told that ADT is given PRIORITY. And all I was told was “yeah, well that’s SDSU for you.” ■■■!

@5nonnegotiables my counselor isn’t the biggest help unfortunately. He said I had to get it to them myself, so I’m sure I’ll be responsible for checking up on it myself.

@christinedoz thank you for the advice! And yeah, SDSU is ridiculous.

A friend of mine who applied Communications was denied yesterday. 3.8 GPA, AA-T and IGETC done.

I’m sitting here with my Health Comm still pending and I have a 3.2 GPA, AA-T and IGETC done.

@ajmarr wait how did your friend get a decision if ADT people aren’t even being evaluated until after Match 15? My counselors have said SDSU communicated with them and said NO ONE earning the AS-T has been given a decision yet. ???

So, I’m a sociology major
63.5 units by the end of spring (all transferable to cal states, only 60.5 transferable to ucs)
all prerequisites completed including “golden four”
3.3 GPA. (I’m taking 17.5 units this semester and doing well in all, so it should positively affect my GPA by the end of spring)

I’ve been accepted to CSULB and Sacramento State, but I’m a bit bummed since I haven’t received anything from UCI SDSU or CSUSM (which is my first choice bc it’s smaller/safer). They’re all still “pending” … I’ll update this if I ever get a decision.

Also, I think some of you guys don’t understand how the acceptance process works … not that I really do.
But school’s can’t just accept people who have the highest GPA.
A GPA doesn’t determine everything. There are tons of people with your same stats, but they can’t just have a lot of the “same” person. Colleges need diversity. So you somehow still have to find a way to be preferred over someone else. That’s what I’ve always been told.

That being said, if SDSU is your first choice, appeal! It’ll be worth it if you actually get accepted.

@christinedoz I’m pretty sure SDSU is just messing with all of us, because my friend definitely has an AA-T and there are quite a few other people I saw on this thread that have gotten decisions already and they had an AA-T or AS-T.

This is my first post, I’ve only read this post because in going crazy waiting for an answer. I only applied to SDSU, I can wait till next year if I really have to but I’m determined to get in to SDSU. My husband got in for electrical engineering last year, veteran, and found out like the first day. I’m way past antsy.

Major: Art History
GPA: 3.4 (thanks to dumb decisions when I was a teen)
Golden 4 done, major prep done(except asian art, not offered here)
Decision:Pending
Location:Temecula (attending Palomar)

I wish I could figure out their acceptance delivery pattern… Major? Name? Credits? GPA? Ugh…

at sbcc I have a counselor, but there is a transfer adviser i see as well, who is totally different, and really helpful. see if you can find a transfer advisor at your school to help you. what school do you go to?

@5nonnegotiables I’m at sbcc too!! I’m assuming a transfer advisor is in the transfer center? Because I’ve only had advising from regular academic advising. I have complicated transcripts due to my University of Oregon credits, so I’ve been working with one great counselor for the past year.

Go see Trevor Hess in the transfer academy. Look him up tonight and send him an email to see if be is in tomorrow and what hours. He works pt there and isn’t in everyday, but go see him. Really nice and very helpful.

Where else did you apply? Did you TAG a school as well?

@christinedoz I read on some SDSU blog and even on this forum that the date changes every time they open your app. The date on mine always said pending as of October 3, 2013 which is the day I submitted my app to csu mentor. I’ve been checking the portal daily and after today it finally said pending as of march 11, 2014.

@nannlove whoa I never knew that. The “pending” to the right of the Admissions Status row? Mine never had a date to begin with. You’re lucky you can see when they open it though!
