2014 Sorority Rush

Hi all! Hope you're having a great summer.

I have a few questions about Panhellenic recruitment specifically for the UC Berkeley campus. I have read about sorority rush in general but I know that Cal is a much more laid-back, chill school, so I'm not sure if everything I read applies to Cal. For example:

Apparently letters of rec are musts (even if they aren't written by family members) at many schools, but is this the case at Cal? I heard many girls at other schools would get connected with their local Panhellenic alumnae chapter to get letters of rec for each sorority on their respective campuses. I thought this was a little extreme because I have previously thought that you would only get them if you have family members involved in the Greek system?

Any advice for rushing as a sophomore? What if I dropped halfway during freshman year rush because it was too overwhelming and was not prepared for it at all?

Thanks y'all!

I don’t know anyone that had a letter of rec going into rush, so don’t worry about that.

Most people will automatically assume you’re a freshman, be prepared for that haha. Other than that I’m not sure what advice to give you other than that you should definitely keep in mind that the sororities you’re rushing now have changed by a 1/4 since you were there last year, (new frosh, outgoing seniors) so try to give each house a fresh chance despite what you’ve heard from friends or on campus
