I was having issues for a while, it kept saying there was no account that matched my info. I was checking infrequently, but when I did it today, it worked!

Do you think being a volunteer youth Little League coach for 10 years counts toward volunteer hours? Would you list it in your application?

yes. I would list…That’s great!

hey guys, quick question. if you take a class p/np at a cc, do you still get the 3 units for the class?

Yes

One more for anyone who might know. I’m considering taking Spanish 1 as p/np. However I’m worried UCLA might look down on that since it’s a foreign language. Anyone have experience with taking p/np with a foreign language.

FWIW, for my major it says on Assist, “With the exception of the foreign language courses, all courses must be taken for a letter grade.”

Which implies it might be ok?

It’s ok to take span 1 P/NP. I would suggest taking span 2 for a grade, although you don’t really have to unless it’s a major req. But still it would look better.

Oh, I just saw Lang is a major req for you. I don’t know. I still think it is ok because language has that validation clause, which basically means you don’t even have to take the earlier classes if you qualify for the later one. So that would make it sound like a grade for span 2 makes span 1 irrelevant.

Excellent! Yeah, I was going to take a grade for span 2, and just hope they’d “skim” over that p/np for span 1. I’m heading in tomorrow to get it done then. Thanks!

Hello, I’ve got a question regarding the “additional info” area.

Since I was at a UC my first year and then withdrew to go to a CC, should I explain why? I have reasons both financial and personal (family obligations). I just don’t want my leaving to reflect badly on me, like I hated my first school or something. I left on good academic standing too, if that’s anything. Just wondering if I should give them a reason behind my leaving and how I plan to transfer back to the UC system.

I was thinking of wording it something along the lines of “While I was enrolled in a UC my first year, I ultimately withdrew because _____. However, I still have hopes of transferring back into the UC system.”

I know that I certainly should avoid sob-stories or any emotional fluff, and know that it’s best to be as straightforward and matter-of-factly as possible. Would this be ok?

@Bearly

They don’t want an essay here and I agree, no sob story. I would simply say words to the effect:

I was enrolled at UC_ my first year but, unfortunately, was forced to withdraw due to personal and financial reasons beyond my control. While I was devastated after working so hard and then having to give it up, I decided to turn it into a positive and do whatever it took to reapply.

Thanks @lindyk8! I see, I will definitely try to be as concise as possible, and will probably have a counselor and/or CC take a brief look before I add it in

Bumping since the TAG deadline is less than one week away!

I have a quick question…

UCSB Mechanical Engineering requires Dynamics which is only found at Cuesta College. So I took the class over summer but I had a Family Emergency and I appealed to drop it without a W. The appeal was approved so there is nothing on my transcript since its the only class I’ve taken there and I only enrolled there for that class.

My questions is, Do I still have to put in my application that I went to Cuesta College even though theres nothing on my transcript?

Thanks everyone! Good Luck with Apps!

I would call and ask UCSB. That is a unique situation and I’m not sure anyone can tell you for sure but for them.

UCs do use a service by the National Student Clearing House to check for any enrollments…, but I’m not sure what would show up…

@ShuttlepilotND
If you essentially have a blank transcript, then there’s nothing to report. If you are looking at your transcript and there is literally no record of it, I don’t think you need to report it.

But of course, you want to hear that directly from UCSB. I would email them the question, so there is verification of there response.

You do not need to report a school if there is no class listed, but verify from Cuesta that there is no course connected to your name. In other words, you applied to the college but never took a course.

QUICK QUESTION GUYS. I transfer Fall 2015 and I want to TAG UCI, but they require a 3.4 gpa for an engineering major and i have a 3.39 gpa. Should I still attempt to TAG them?? Do schools round gpa when it comes to this kind of stuff or are they absolute??

I have the same question that lafcadio has, is it just major specific transferable courses? Every single transferable course? or overall? And thanks to the people who helped out my question from earlier :)

I believe your fall 2014 grades are taken into consideration as regards, GPA. But they will not round off.

Yes still TAG. Only UC transferable courses through Summer are counted toward GPA for TAG. You need at least 30 UC transferable units with plans to complete 30 more this Fall and next Spring. If you’re denied TAG, you’re still eligible for regular admission.
