Applied at Florida lodge. No confirmation email or any notice of any kind…???
@worrybug @passionforumiami I never got one, but when I turned in my application to the lodge I talked to the guy who was in charge of reviewing them…
@softballgirl23, Thanks for that info.
I just sent an email to my lodge (in NY) to check in as well, since I haven’t heard anything from them either.
@PassionForUMiami Do you mind me asking what lodge number you turned yours into?
@softballgirl23 Yeah, I emailed my lodge to confirm if they received my application and they never responded back! :-<
@worrybug I don’t remember the number but it was in winter park, Florida. It was the closest lodge to zip code 32825. Also I did my research on two lodges that I was considering because I’m paranoid and one I noticed had a lot of winners from recent times than the other. So it was way more active while the other one was kind of dead. If you want to find the number though, you can look it up on the elks website.
I called my lodge (in NY) and they said application do not need to be submitted until the end of January. Has anyone heard of this?
I’m from Virginia and I haven’t heard anything yet. I hope I didn’t make a mistake on the address I mailed to.
@PassionForUMiami Thanks! Yeah, I am very confused and don’t know what is going on. I emailed and called.
I emailed them mid-December and received no response and called but the bartender picked up (?) also very confused.
@worrybug I learned from my lodge that if you call before 2 pm, the person in charge of the scholarship will pick up and if you call after 2 pm, the bartender will pick up. I called mine at around 2:30 and the bartender answered and she was the one who I gave my application to. She then passed it on to the leader the next day. Maybe it was the time of day you called or maybe your lodge is not active with the scholarships? I read an older thread a while back and someone turned theirs into a lodge notorious for not doing anything with the applications they receive or “forgetting”.
@PassionForUMiami Wow, thanks a bunch! That was super helpful. I will call them before 2 and see what happens. I just wish they could be little bit more organized with their contacting and etc. Thanks again!
Applied in PA and haven’t heard anything yet.
I emailed Elks asking about my application since I never got any confirmation whether or not that it was received and got this response (I live in Maryland):
“Thank you for your email. In looking at our records, it appears as if the Lodge did receive your application. They are finalizing judging this week, and we will be sending email notifications next Monday on the status of the application. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.”
I finally found my local contact person’s information so I sent her an email and this was her response.
“You were one of three that we sent to District. I thought that National was now letting you know that. I apologize if I dropped the ball.
You will be hearing from us in the next couple of weeks because, in addition to the MVS contest, our lodge gives a small scholarship and we have a dinner that we will be inviting you to. Be on the look out.
Congratulations,”
Elks is slow on notifying people, so if you’re still waiting sent them an email.
Who did you email, your district or local lodge?
@EmBio02 I emailed my local lodge
I tweeted Elks Scholars and they said they’ll be sending out email notifications early this week.
I just got an email today saying I moved on but i have no idea if that is local lodge, or district or what?? any one have an idea? @ninadasiy what lodge did you apply to?
Applied in NJ and got an e-mail today. Moving on to the next round!
Just got the following in an email. Disappointed, but posting the message here. I applied to one of the NY lodges (the brooklyn-queensborough one).
Thank you for applying for the 2015 Most Valuable Student scholarship. Your application for the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student contest has been evaluated by the Lodge judging committee.
Many outstanding young men and women competed for awards this year. Unfortunately, we do not have sufficient funds to award scholarships to all of them. While your application was impressive, we regret that you are not among those who advanced to the next level of competition.
Please note that the Elks National Foundation administers only the 500 national scholarships. Some local Lodges use our scholarship application to award their own scholarships. If you qualify for one of those awards, the local Lodge will contact you directly.
We encourage you to visit www.elks.org/enf/scholars/links.cfm for a list of useful online scholarship search engines. We wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
