I was reading last year’s decision thread, and I saw that SDSU apparently is very, very selective towards locals. I went to high school in San Diego, but CC in Riverside. Do you think my high school will help at all? I’m so worried because it looks like only 71 out of almost 900 were accepted for my major.
Major: Sociology
Location: Riverside County
GPA: 3.74
AA-T will be finished this Spring!
It looks like the Social Work program had 374 applicants last year and accepted 75. I feel like those are decent odds? But math is also not my strong point haha!
Ohh ok, thank you!! @raychill89@sdsuhopeful4 I thought you were looking at 2015 as they were accepting them haha I had a heart attack
I just met with the director of the transfer center at sd mesa and saw the email from SDSU with all of the stats and dates of notifications. Regular notifications will be in one week and ADT after that. Criminal Justice majors have a cut off GPA of 3.3
Leroy, he is the head of the transfer center at San Diego Mesa College. I saw the direct email with the summaries on it and what we should expect the next coming weeks. I should have copied down all the info but I didnt know if he’d let me… @brett8
@socworktransfer That would mean that your major had about a 20% acceptance rate, which is not horrible compared to other more impacted majors. You have a stellar GPA and the last school you attended is in the SDCCD so this could help you out, too.
@kippycap Every college works a little differently when it comes to admissions, but I was denied admission to CSUSM for attending a non-local community college. They stated that they looked at the last school I attended and they made their decision based on the fact that it was not local to them. The email stated that all non-local applicants were denied this year due to impaction. CSUSM simply just didn’t have enough spots to accommodate outside area applicants.
That’s not to say SDSU will do the same; I am not sure if SDSU will be in that same position this year in only being able to accept locals.
@wavechaser99 I’d also be interested to know about GPA cutoffs. Where can we find this info? Who at SDSU can tell us what that is?
There were no other cut offs available, ONLY criminal justice was provided because of how small the department is. Dont freak out! But the people at the transfer center are always helpful @raychill89
@wavechaser99@brett8 I just called SD Mesa transfer center and she only had an email from SDSU about the GPA cutoff for Criminal Justice. She told me to call tomorrow to speak to Leroy and to see if he knows what mine is. I’d recommend you guys call tomorrow too. I’m nervous as heck.
@brett8 there wont be any information about the cut off for psych or any other majors, only criminal justice because of the small number they can accept
@wavechaser99 Oh, DARNIT. Haha! The lady made it seem like there may be more info tomorrow from Leroy. It won’t hurt to still call and ask I suppose. I’m going to try at least.
Last year the cut off for psych was a 2.9, average GPA was a 3.2.
Leroy told me today that I have a good chance with a 3.38 so you will definitely be ok with a 3.7! haha
I already asked about psych and he didnt have any info on that at all yet @raychill89
@eugenius310 ADT stands for “Associates Degree for Transfer”. There is the AA-T (Associate of Arts for Transfer) and the AS-T (Associate of Science for Transfer). They are special degrees that give students who possess them priority admission consideration. ADTs are only offered here in CA and within a small selection of majors for students wishing to transfer to a CSU. There is information on SDSU’s site here: http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/admissions/transfers/
