2015 SDSU Transfer Decisions

I only have a 3.3 gpa… I feel like that AAST degree was the only thing really keeping me competitive. I can’t believe that its not going to be applied to my application.

@Raisedbywolves‌ Right me too -_____- I feel like the majority of spots are saved for locals regardless, but I was really counting on that AS-T to give me a boost… SDSU should know that most transfers are not going to spend 2+ years at a CC or other college only to transfer with NO concentration ??? That’s pretty high school we obviously know what we want to do at this point.

So Yeah… Even though I have an AAST in Business Admin and my declared major is Business Admin with an emphasis in Information Systems. I never applied for Business Admin (general) on my application so I am not allowed to declare I have an AAST degree. But I called today and Thank jeebus that I am an Air Force Veteran. They said my chances are very high just on the fact that I am a veteran alone, plus I have all my course work done and a decent gpa. They said if I am denied I am allowed to appeal and resubmit. Is everyone allowed to appeal and resubmit or is it just veterans?

Yes everyone is able to appeal, however the chances of getting admitted through the appeal are very difficult and require certain circumstances. For instances there was a glitch last year on someones supplemental application and instead of their GPA saying a 4.0 it was a 0.

Wishing you all the best @‌raisedbywolves and @bestc0ast !

I am sorry about what happened to you two with your AS-T degree though…I would be furious. I feel like the counselors at your CCs should have known better and advised you not to state a concentration on the application if it would hinder your ability to claim an AS-T degree on your application. If for whatever reason you both don’t get in, I would most definitely appeal it, regardless of how likely it is that appeals are accepted.

That’s great that SDSU relieved your worries @raisedbywolves and thank you for your service!

@teknikal562 did you ever find out from SDSU why the AA/AS-T tab was not showing up?

And @brett8 I hope you are right! :stuck_out_tongue:

It really does make me furious… It seems like SOOOOOO many of the officials at MSJC play the stupid card when comes to needing information. The Absolutely really fucked up part about it is. When I applied to these colleges I went to the transfer/career center office and had the counselor there help me fill out my entire application. She knew my major and my AST degree. If she knew her job she really should of caught something like this… I wasted my time and money getting this AST degree and now it didnt get counted towards a single one of my applications.

It makes me furious… I don’t really know what I should do. Should I contact someone about this situation just to complain? Its to late now, nothing can be done. But at the same time they are lazy and don’t do their jobs and should be called out on it.

The Approving Official at the Veterans MSJC office tried to deny my military benefits. It took me calling the VA and having a VA supervisor on the phone to tell the MSJC employee how to do her job right. The Thing is she fucked over so many students prior to me calling her out on how to do her job right.

I just hate this loser ass community college with a passion. They are only about trapping students and squeezing every dime they can get out of the students

Now all I have to count on is being a Vet with a decent GPA and having all my course work done. If I had this AST degree included in my applications I would be a lot less stressed out right now.

Yeah. Same thing that happened with some of the folks in here. My intended major (Accounting) does not apply to their program.

Wow, that’s 3 people this has happened to so far on this forum alone. I can’t even imagine how many other people had the same thing happen to them and how disappointed you all are. I feel like SDSU should reconsider this since it wasn’t the fault of the applicants…I’m very, very sorry guys. I hope you all get in despite this hiccup! I would seriously be raising hell to the counselors at your CCs, because they would have more pull to contact SDSU and make them aware of the mishap. If you guys can, when decisions are made, please come back and post results. It seems like this is the first year this has happened, at least on College Confidential. I never saw anything about this happening on the earlier transfer decision threads. @raisedbywolves @teknikal562 @bestc0ast

@trufflebutter Just curious, did you put Business Admin (General) on your initial application, or did you put financial services as a concentration? Did you have the AA/AS-T tab on your supplemental application?

@raychill89‌ This is the first year it has happened because it is the first year SDSU (and probably other colleges) have offered ““Business Admin (General)”” as a college “”"“major”""". I’m pretty furious at both the CCs and CSUs for this judgement call. General shouldn’t even be a major, the AST/AAT program was designed for TRANSFER STUDENTS we are at CCs and i’m sure only those who still do not know what they want to do after 2+ years (no concentration so they chose general) shouldn’t even be transferring. I’m making an appointment with my counselor and calling SDSU first thing monday morning. I did not work my butt off to get a 4.0 gpa (so I could bump my gpa for apps in the fall) the past 3 semesters thank you very much.

@bestc0ast I completely agree…that is seriously mind boggling and exceptionally frustrating. My question is: how can the schools just change it like that after all of these hopeful transfer students have been working towards degrees with concentrations while thinking they were still under the AA/AS-T? You all should have been notified or warned ahead of time if this changed so that even though you all took extra classes for your concentration, at least you would have been able to declare “general” and qualify for the AS-T. These 4-year CSUs should allow those who have already declared concentrations to continue to work on those degrees (grandfathered into older policies, in other words) and be able to apply to all CSUs with the AA/AS-T degree they were initialy promised.

If you look at the degree with a guarantee website, it clearly says that CSU Business Admin AS-T degrees cover multiple specializations including most of the ones you all have mentioned.

Taken from http://adegreewithaguarantee.com/Degrees.aspx :

“An AS-T in Business Administration opens the door to a range of degree options when you transfer to a CSU. Under the umbrella of Business Administration, armed with the skills and knowledge necessary to understand the rapidly changing global business environment, you could specialize in areas such as advertising and marketing, accounting, real estate management, entrepreneurship, and others, depending on the CSU campus to which you are admitted. A business bachelor’s degree prepares you to work in any business environment, from a multinational conglomerate to your own company.”

I’d be curious to know if they expect students to declare a concentration after they are accepted into the CSU system. I wonder if some concentrations within Business Admin are severely more impacted than others which requires students to be “general” until they can begin taking courses within their concentrations…just a thought. None of this truly makes any sense to me. I’d be interested to know what happens when you contact SDSU.

@raychill89 WOW, I cannot believe what’s going on. I can totally understand the frustration and confusion from all of the fellow students above regarding the AS-T.

My counselor told me ahead of time (before initially applying on CSU Mentor) that I must select the business administration major that has the phrase “AS-T Degree Transfer” in it in able to have SDSU consider myself an “ADT” transfer student. So, I checked my CSU Mentor app for SDSU and it states I declared, “Intended major: Business Admin (Financial Services) (BS) (AS-T Degree Transfer).” My intended emphasis is actually Finance, but since Finance was not covered by SDSU’s “SDSU-APPROVED CSUMENTOR MAJOR EQUIVALENT” I decided to declare financial services to 1) play it safe and 2) be considered an AS-T transfer student.

So for Business Admin students, the only two majors accepted by SDSU for “ADT” students are Business Admin (General) and Business Admin (Financial Services). I’m sure everyone is well aware of this now though. Changing my emphasis shouldn’t be a problem because Finance is still within the same Business Administration major and both of the emphases (Finance and Financial Services) have the same major prep!

I wish all of you with AS-T issues genuine luck as I know the application process is a mess.

@raychill89 Oh, and yes, I have the “AA/AS-T tab” on my supplemental application.

I decided to just to ahead and submit my supplemental application (hail mary). I already got accepted to my local university (CSUSB) but SDSU is my first choice. One can only get accepted or denied, and that’s how I’m going to look at it.

I got screwed over so bad. I applied to Psychology at SDSU, i RECALL there being a section asking "Will you be applying with an AA/ADT degree? And I put aa. I thought that was all that i had to put to ensure they knew i was going to complete an AA degree. I only have a 3.1, i’m so done.

@hopefulsdsuu I don’t think what was being discussed earlier applies to you but please correct me if I am wrong. :-p Your first post on this thread stated that you applied with an AA in Psychology. What is being discussed are students who have applied with an ADT degree; students with an ADT degree will either have the AA-T or the AS-T which are different from the regular AA/AS degrees. It’s all kind of confusing. Were you working on an AA-T in Psychology or an AA?

In either case, don’t give up hope just yet! It seems that admissions is a really random process, and don’t beat yourself up! A 3.1 is still a good GPA!

thank you @raychill89‌ I meant to put aat in psychology. I called the office and the admissions guy said I’d most likely have to appeal.

yeah when you first call the admissions office do not listen to what the front desk has to say. to be honest they are completely useless. I have spoken with the head of admissions personally and he guided me through the application process, i forget his name but he is the person who speaks on the recording on the admissions line for SDSU.

In order to have the highest priority for admissions you must have applied for a (AS-T or AA-T) major. With that major, you should have received or be receiving your AS-T or AA-T by the end of the Spring semester for the Fall semester you are applying for. First dibs on spots available are given to these applicants. ALSO: The major in which you apply for must be equivalent to Transfer Degree you are getting from your CC.

The new TAG states that in order to have priority to SDSU you must be receiving a degree from one of the three community colleges in the San Diego Community College district. If you do not get a degree from a local CC in the SD County, then you are not given priority.

For example:

I applied for Business Administration (AS-T General)
GPA: 3.50
Will be receiving my AS-T Degree Business Admin (General) from Mesa College by the end of Spring 15.

Therefore I will be “Tagging” to SDSU. Which means first priority.

@joogman23 TAG and AA-T/AS-T are different I thought.

On SDSU’s website, it states:

“There is no guaranteed admission under the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) for any major for which there is an SDSU-approved Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T degree).”

The AA/AS-T degrees are just for priority admission, but are not guaranteed.
