@raychill89 no you are correct, there is no guarantee. But to have “Priority” to SDSU, they will give first dibs to local applicants coming from the local community colleges with an AS-T/AA-T degree who are also applying to a AS-T/AA-T major. This is considered the new “TAG” but it is not officially named the new TAG. It is not guaranteed but you will be first on the list and given the priority.
SDSU gives priority to AS-T grads from Mesa, City, and Miramar. Any other school will be in a different pool. Once the local community college students with AS-T have been given priority and the spots have been filled by SDSU, then they will move on the students who are local without AS-T and then move up to LA county, and then however many spots are left after that then they will move up to NorCAL which by then are rarely given any opportunity because the city of San Diego is already flooded with students from the CC’s and from Mexico.
The admissions process is somewhat of a mess. In other words, if you are not graduating from the Local CC with AS-T, you will have less of a chance because there are only so many spots.
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.26
AA-T: finished Fall 2014, received Spring 2015
CC: San Diego Mesa Community College
Applied: SDSU, UCSB, CSUSM, CSUF, CSU Chico, CSULB
Major: Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
GPA: 3.28
CC: Moorpark College
Applied: SDSU, SFSU, CSULB, Chico
Pretty nervous about my GPA but hoping that I have a chance since it’s a less popular major! Any other Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences/Communicative Disorders majors out there?
Scary to think the supplemental application will be closed out entirely in about 15 mins. I’ve been triple checking for errors the past 30 mins…lol. Good luck everyone! Now we wait…
Major: Kinesiology - Pre-Physical Therapy
GPA: 3.27
CC: Cuesta College with an AA-T for Spring '15
Applied: SDSU, CSULB, Chico
It’s a dice roll for SDSU and CSULB since there is a higher concentration of CC’s in those areas who have an advantage over me, and my GPA isn’t amazing
Major: Political Science (might change to Anthropology)
GPA: 3.58
CC: Bakersfield College (first year at CSUB)
Applied: SDSU, CSULB, and CSUSM
I couldn’t get the AA-T because my CC only offers the two necessary Poli Sci classes in either the Fall or Spring semesters. I only had a year at my CC to finish my GE’s so I had to make some tough decisions… I do have enough credits to get an AA in Liberal Arts though… I laughed when the counselor told me that. My boyfriend and I applied to the same schools. We will see what happens.
Major - Business Admin (hopefully, I can change it to marketing)
Location - San Diego City College
GPA - 3.66
AA/AS-T? AS-T
I applied at CSU EB and SDSU, but really, my only option is SDSU.
Military dependent as well. I have 9 units that are transferable from the University of Phoenix (did online classes when my husband was stationed in Hawaii), I’m hoping that it won’t affect the outcome.
@ieatsushi, I think you should be fine. You have obtained your AS-T from a San Diego CC and I’m sure you earned more transferrable units at City than you did at University of Phoenix. You’re also a military dependent which would make an awesome case in the event you needed to appeal a denied decision.
Quick question for you: have you had to send in any military dependent paperwork so far?
@raychill89 I’ve had to submit was my eligibility for the GI Bill, which my husband transferred over to me a few years ago. Other than that, no.
I was reading the threads from last year, one person got denied for admission, with a 4.0 at City! I was going to apply to CSUSM but, the counselor’s told me that the UoP credits pretty much ruined my chances and the fact that I’m not within their local area.
I also, did the initial CSUMentor application wrong (I think that one was more confusing than the supplemental) but, thankfully the SDSU admissions counselor I’ve been in contact with told me they only look at the supplemental. Woosah!
I read that you cannot change majors. But, I was told by my counselor who was told by a counselor at SDSU (I was there while my counselor was on the phone with State), that the best way for me to get in was to get admitted and then change my major. Technically, they are both business, but I want to go for an emphasis in marketing. The major requirements are still the same for both. Do you know if it’s possible to change emphasis with the same major?
This month leading up to March is going to be so stressful!!! I would totally be crushed if I didn’t get in!
I saw that too. I think that the people with 4.0s who got denied admission must have made some mistakes on their applications because that seriously makes no sense at all. Looking at older threads, you see a lot of people with far less-than-great GPAs that got accepted.
If you get denied admission (I think you will be accepted though ), I think you have a great chance of winning an appeal because you are a military dependent. You have a great GPA as well, and your case about living in Hawaii and not even being able to take all of your classes if you wanted to at a San Diego CC will seriously win the appeal I think. Stay positive and even if you are denied, don’t give up hope. I plan on appealing as well if I am denied! I refuse to take “no” for an answer. SDSU is seriously the only school I can go to…otherwise, I will be forced to look at some of the universities that offer an online degree for my major such as Arizona State University.
As far as changing your major, I have heard that it’s possible only after you begin physically attending the school and it has to be approved by the department. Since Marketing is an emphasis under the same major that you’re currently in, it shouldn’t be a problem but I would definitely call and speak to admissions though just to be certain. @ieatsushi
The only other reason that I could think that one would get denied is if they tried applying without an AS-T or AA-T degree. I read an article about how a military vet got denied with a 4.0 to State, but his friend got in with something like a 3.3 and an AA.
I’ve been working at my degree for so long off and on, I’ve come too far to stop now. My husband is going to Japan for two years this year and we decided that me and our girls are going to stay back so I can finish school plus, there would be no point going because they’re deployed ALL THE TIME in Japan—only seeing him maybe a couple of weeks at a time between deployments. I don’t really have a back up plan…I looked at USD but, tuition there is $40k+!!!
I really wish March would hurry up and get here. I read last year that those with ADTs didn’t get decisions back till April. I hope that isn’t the case this year. I don’t think I could wait that long.
@ieatsushi My best friend goes to USD and is absolutely BURIED in debt after just under 2 years of attending that school. She was also a transfer student. I guess she’s lucky she didn’t go there right out of high school because that would just be double the amount of debt she’s already in. I didn’t even bother looking into those private-type universities because of how expensive they are. SDSU is the most economical of universities in the area, and it’s just an awesome school in general. Keeping my fingers crossed for us all. And trust me, I feel you on being past the point of no return - I’ve been pursuing my AA-T degree for the last 3 years! I don’t think they should call AA/AS degrees 2 year degrees because for the majority of people, it takes longer! About Japan, I totally think I would do the same as you and stay here if my husband went there and was going to be deploying the whole time. It will be hard to be without him for 2 years, but you’ll be so busy with school and taking care of your girls that the time will fly by. Hopefully he can fly home and come be with you guys whenever he can take leave!
@impatient1 Right?! I don’t know what I’ll do if we have to wait that long. I already check the web portal like a crack head in hopes of somehow magically getting accepted HAHA. I’ll basically be living on the computer and hitting refresh all day if we have to wait that long!
@impatient1 I recently spoke with the Transfer Director at SD Mesa and he basically told me students who applied with an AA-T/AS-T will not hear back from State regarding admission decisions until (at the earliest) the week of March 15, 2015; or more likely, the end of March or early April. He said since I have a high GPA that I should have just applied w/o an ADT degree (just as a regular transfer student) and that most likely I would receive notice of my admission from state within the first week of March.
This is all due to the ADT E-Verifciation March 15, 2015 deadline! Students with and without ADT’s are in two separate pools. ADT students do have priority, but state verifies how many ADT transfer applicants they have with how many available spots they have open. If the spots SDSU has surpasses the number of ADT applicants they have, then regular applicants (w/o ADT’s) will receive their admittance decisions before the students that applied with AA-T’s/AS-T’s. It’s an intricate process that’s for sure.
For some reason the reply button doesn’t work for me =(
I do believe you still did the right thing TruffleButter. Even if students without an ADT get admitted last, it’s still better to have that extra boost than not at all.
Major- business admin AS-T
Location- local San diego CC area, Grossmont college. Currently live 10 minutes away from sdsu
GPA- 2.84. But 2.94 with bump
I applied for the AS-T degree for transfer and will receive it by the end of this spring
Honestly I am scared. My GPA sucks ass because i slacked off in my second year and i switched from Biology major to Business just two semesters ago. But now im getting my act right and i got mostly A’s these last 2 smesters. I am really scared just because of my GPA, even though I’m local and my AS-T will give me priority (right…?). Business admin requires a 2.9 and i just want to know if the 0.1 bump will count me in? But anyway, i just feel like I am in a really bad shape for the bus admin applicants. I really want to to go to sdsu with a burning passion and the only school i applied to. I realize that my chances are pretty slim given the huge amount of applicants. Anybody on the same boat, or will give me advice on my chances?
