2015 SDSU Transfer Decisions

Denied on April 1st
Major: Business Admin General
Prerequs: All business prerequs completed with A’s (calculus, financial/managerial accounting, business communication, macro/micro, computer information systems, legal environment of business, stats)
GPA: 3.59
Attending Palomar College.
Really shocked I did not get accepted with these stats. My GPA isn’t the absolute best, however I received A’s in all of my lower division business coursework. I had been following this thread anxiously awaiting my acceptance decision. Needless to say, I am quite disappointed.

Also, I am completing Palomar with an AS-T in Business Administration

I just received the email yesterday. I got denied. My major is Business Management. My GPA 3.45. I have earned AA degree from Mesa. This is the 2nd year I got denied.I have applied CSUSM but got denied because CSUSM don’t have Business major. I only hope SDSU can accepted me this year but all my hopes are shattered. I was so sad and cried a lot. I went to Admission today to ask the reason why I got denied. The lady said there are not specific reasons why I got denied just because my major is very popular in school and this year they receive more than 10,000 people applied more than last year. They suggested I write an appeal form and letter. But I know that only just small percentage appeal are made but I try my best. I don’t want to waste for another year. My mom and my dad were sad and they worried for me a lot. I cried a lot because I got denied again. I really want to go to school to continue my education but school don’t want me.
My friend got admitted with GPA 2.9 ( Econ major ). But anyway congrats to her and everybody got admitted.

I didn’t post this earlier on because it’s long winded and I guess I felt it wasn’t relevant since I am now a local area student, but this is my story. I too was once a Palomar student. After earning about 36 of my 60 units there, I was later told that I would not be a priority transfer student at SDSU due to being out of their local area. I was so furious and called one of the San Diego CC’s to find out what my options were since Palomar failed to tell me this information before I started attending there. All I was told by my Palomar counselor in the beginning was that SDSU was impacted and that I may want to have a backup plan but she hid the full truth. I had previously told her (before I had taken any classes there) that SDSU was my ultimate goal and she wasn’t 100% honest with me about what the consequence would be by beginning coursework at Palomar. Basically, going to any school outside of SDSU’s local area voids you from being a priority transfer student; even if you earn an AA/AS-T from an out of area school, it won’t always be helpful unless the ADT is earned from a local school. After speaking with someone at Mesa, I was told to transfer to Mesa College and finish up my coursework there by earning my AA-T there and that if I did earn the degree there, I would be considered a local priority transfer student. That was my saving grace.

I guess I am sharing this information so that any future Palomar students who may come across this in time will have the opportunity to change their situation like I did. I actually left Palomar a horrible yelp review to spare anyone the hassle if they’re thinking about going there but ultimately want to go to SDSU.

I’m so sorry about your denial @linzee558 because your GPA is definitely still competitive. Unfortunately it is because your major is very impacted and they simply don’t have the space for many non-locals. Whatever you decide to do or wherever you decide to go from here, I wish you the best of luck. Keep your chin up.

@businesslady I am very sorry. Ugh, I wish everyone who really wants to go there could get accepted. It pains me to see people disappointed. I am wishing you luck as well. There are many online degree programs from credible schools. Have you looked into any of those programs?

I didn’t get in with a 4.0 and part of honors societies lol SDSU is ridiculous when it comes to their acceptance/rejections.

@raychill89 I already have AS- T at Mesa. Can I take more classes to improve my GPA? Because I think I already completed all classes at Mesa. My friend told me to change my major to Econ because Business now is very hard to accepted.

@businesslady Oh! Perfect! I read that you had an AA not AS-T. I would most DEFINITELY take some elective classes to raise your GPA a bit. This year, the cut-off for business/business admin was a 3.5 since it is a very popular major. You were just barely there. Maybe call SDSU or visit them and find out what you can do to have better chances. And yes, you can definitely try to appeal if they recommended you to do so.

Otherwise, if you don’t want to wait another year to go there, check out Penn State and other credible universities that offer great online programs.

I dont know this year business major would take 3.5 or higher because I looked at the web and the counselor told me minimum gpa is 2.9. Anyway I knew that they would accepted who have high GPA. The Penn State and other credible universities are online programs?are they like school for online student? Do we pay for tuition?

The minimum GPA requirements for that major may be a 2.9, however, because it is such an impacted major and there are more people applying to get into that major than there are seats for, you are competing with an applicant pool consisting of people with higher GPAs. That is why there was allegedly a cutoff of 3.5 this year.

Yes, Penn State and other legitimate universities offer distance education degrees completely online. I was actually planning on attending ASU online if I had been denied from SDSU. You do have to pay tuition just the same as any other university and usually they can be a bit pricy. I do know that UMUC has online degrees and much more affordable tuition fees. @businesslady

I dont want to pay too much for school because I am part time employee. Anyway I must write an appeal letter first to see if I still have a chance. If they dont accept I think I should go back Mesa College and ask more specific classes or any plans to continue my education. Thanks so much @raychill89

Got a denial april 1st.
Been going to SWC(local school) for the past 4 years, got 2 degrees, gpa was 3.3 before the past semester then it dropped to a 3.1, was president/VP of an academic club on campus, part of the student government, plus I had previous experience in public relations and a job somewhat related in the field. Still got denied with an AA-T. :frowning: To top it off I got the rejection email while on my honeymoon, a bit of a downer. This is my second year of applying to university. I’m honestly ready to just apply to ASU online program for Communications. My husband lives in canada and I honestly thought there was no way I would get rejected since I’m a local student and despite a low-ish gpa it was still well above the bottom line gpa… I need to finish school and get my degree so I can move to canada already and be able to start my life with my husband… waiting on cal poly pomona if I get rejected I’ll be heading to ASU for the online communications program.

Denied.
3.65 AS-T completed

Super bummed (first choice for many years) but I prepared for this… Too bad SD is missing out on many great students as they admit people with < 3.0 which is ridiculous…
Off to SFSU!

Journalism major? anybody? My application is still pending. Why is it taking so long?? :-S [-O<

@xoxon90‌ No I honestly dont know much, I know its one of the cheapest CSU and that is my backup school

Aww next time we will get in so where dod you plan to go? @Mak209‌

@jeaniemeanie‌ Im also CJ major and got denied GPA 3.1 non-local

@xoxon90‌ where do you live? If you end up choosing CSUDH which I know you will get in we should be roommates

@bee011 Did they say any reasons why you got denied? So do you write an appeal letter?

I went to csusm because I was denied from sdsu when I graduated high school. I decided to go there because I thought either I would like it and stay or I would transfer to SDSU. I then found out that I wouldn’t get in so I left after my first year and went to a local community college. I talked to someone at sdsu and found out that if I took more than 50% of my courses at a local community college that I would be considered local when I applied. You can’t fall under TAG if you didn’t start at a local community college, but you still have a better chance if you have some units from a local cc. I was admitted to sdsu last week even with 30+ units from csusm and without a degree for transfer. If any non locals that didn’t get in are really passionate about going to sdsu I suggest taking at least some units, even if they’re online, at a community college, preferably retaking your golden four courses (English, math, critical thinking, and oral) because sdsu will see on your supplemental application that you took those at a local college and you will have a better chance at getting in. Hope that can help anyone out!
