2015 SDSU Transfer Decisions

@businesslady the only reason that I received was that the major was super impacted and they only had so many spots for transfers… blah blah blah… I’ll be trying again for grad school but I’m not wasting anymore time with their bewildering admissions process. I’ll take my talents to SF State…

@hopefulaztec619 I agree with your advice. I was in a similar situation…however, 2 courses (50%) of my golden 4 were taken at Palomar and 2 others (the other 50%) were taken locally at SD Mesa. Most of my major prep courses were also taken locally. It sucks that this information is not given to students before they start plugging away at their GE and lower division coursework from non-local schools. If anything, that’s what upsets me the most. A lot of qualified people that were denied this year and all the years before would have had the chance to be considered as “local” if they knew that that was the best option. :frowning:

@raychill89‌ I want to get my masters at SDSU that was one of the main reasons I applied to the state but didn’t get in, so my question is I know that CSUDH don’t have the clases that will prepare me for the masters on “Homeland Sec at the state” what advice can you give me ?

Thanks !!

@alelli I would suggest going to a local San Diego Community College and perhaps earning a different 2 year degree (preferably another AA/AS-T) from them, then transferring. You will have a much better chance when you apply after earning most of your new major’s units from a local school. I believe at one of the San Diego CC’s, you will need to complete at least 18 units and the majority of your major’s units there at a SDCC school in order for them to grant you a degree. Since you have a year before you could potentially be starting at SDSU, I’d take the opportunity to start classes in the San Diego CC District. Keep plugging away at your GPA and aim for straight As. The higher your GPA, the higher your chances are for getting accepted since the school is so impacted. Aim for at least a 3.5 or better.

Thx for the advice  @raychill89‌

Does anyone have experience transferring from a private university to a CSU? I’m in the thick of the appeals process for SDSU and I just got an email from them saying that I did not have my “Golden Four” classes completed. I started the appeal process because I don’t have all my pre-major credits (because I was sick last semester and had to withdraw), but it never even occured to me that there could be a problem with my golden four!

The school I’m transferring from (Mills college) does not have the exact same classes listed for the “golden four” but in my application I followed their directions in indicating the courses I took at Mills that would fit neatly into these categories. I’m really frustrated finding out that this may have been a large part of why I was denied admission, when I absolutely have taken courses in the Golden Four category (many times over in fact) AND I followed their directions for indicating this. If I weren’t going through this appeals process for other reasons, I never would have even known this!

@socworktransfer
Hello! I understand your frustration. I got on this site a year before I was ready to transfer (last year). I too came from a private university! Bottom line… You’re at the bottom of the list as far as who they look at to admit because legally they have to give priority to CCCs and even above that, local CCs. I realized this and decided to give myself the best chances by transferring to one of their local community colleges and earning more then 50 percent of my units from there and receiving my AD-T. Even with this, Due to the amount of transfers from local CCs, I still didn’t get in with a 3.47. This means that they didn’t even look at people in my major (Business) that didn’t come from a local cc and have an AD-T… (because I would have gotten in over them)

Hope this helped!

I thought someone said that SDSU wasn’t accepting anyone with a GPA lower than 3.5 for Business.

@transfer987654 It was actually because Business had a cut-off of 3.5 this year as previously mentioned. While the minimum GPA requirement for business is a 2.9, you would need a 3.5 or better this year based on the competitive pool of applicants who applied for the business major this year since it is one of the more impacted majors. That is what SDSU admissions told some other denied business majors unfortunately.

Yeah, truly a mystery this year. I wonder what happened.

@raychill89‌ I was the one that said that earlier. I think maybe I am not wording it correctly… To get in you not only
1)Needed to transfer from a local community colleges
2) Have an AD-T

But also have a 3.5 due to the number of people that have 1 and 2…

If you don’t have 1 and 2, you were not even looked at because they are the people with priority.

If only 5 people had 1 and 2, and they met the minimum GPA of 2.9 then all 5 would have gotten in.

Now that I re-read your comment, I see that I must have misread because it is perfectly clear now. Sorry about that. @transfer987654

@transfer987654 As you said if only 5 people who have 1 and 2, and they meed the minimum GPA of 2.9 then all 5 would have gotten in. For example, I have 1 & 2 and my GPA is 3.45 ( Business major) but still get denied. Actually, we dont know exactly how SDSU’s system choose students. I think maybe just lucky or no lucky. Because I read in this forum, one person have Business major but GPA is 3.01 but he admitted.

Greetings Everyone:

Financial Aid Question:

Are either of these grants paid directly to students?

Federal Pell Grant Grant or the State Univ Grant

Pretty sure the university grant is the first payer, so that all goes to the school. The rest comes out of the Pell Grant. Whatever is left of the Pell Grantgoes to you for books or whatever. Keep in mind, whatever isn’t used on school related stuff is taxable income. I usually get l about $1700.

Hey everyone !
Question for those accepted:
Is anyone living on campus ? If so have you guys applied?

Hey everyone. Whoever is a business major out there. Can you say whether you got accepted or denied and what gpa you got. I plan on doing business specifically Accounting. Thanks.

Admitted! I was surprised and will likely attend here! so excited!
